Shave their butts? (Grooming Question) When we had Riley groomed awhile back, the groomer shaved his butt. We thought it looked really funny and would never intentionally have it done, but now, I think maybe we should have TJ's butt shaved. TJ has had like 3-4 1/2 baths in the past week because if his poo isn't completely solid, it gets stuck to his butt and his butt hair so their is no way to clean him up without having what I like to call a "butt-bath" :D Do any of you shave their butts? What else can I do other than making my baby go bare-bottom? |
Yes.. my groomer trims it,, but somtimes,,like now, his appt is this Mon. and hes had a couple tuft that seem to grow more,,so I need to trim it. If he gets a hanger oner,,, he looses a grip! :eek: |
It really is easier on them and us!! No poo stuck to the butt hairs! :D |
I would not say "shaved", but its a sanitary clip, the "southern" hair is cut very short. Makes it easy for all, pup and mama! Chelsea'sMom :aimeeyork |

My groomer always shaves the girls butts...it is much nicer and cleaner...no worries about cling ons or anything...if the hair is too long it can be messy at times!! |
We get bentley's shaved!! it's alot easier....we never have any suprises stuck to him!! |
i clip Chewy myself with scissors. A steady hand is needed ;) |
I keep the private areas of my two yorkie's cut some, too. But not shaved. I don't like dingle-berries and I've had lots of experience from when we had a Pekingnese. |
My groomer does a sanitary clip but does not shave the butt. |
i need to have mine shaved.! this morn i was trying to clean/get one turd out of a clump of his booty hairs... :( not pleasant b/c i think i was pulling it at the same time and hurt him. :( not good for baby and mommy. |
I clip Gus's private and butt areas myself with my husbands clippers. Gus has his own attachment (#2) and I keep it seperated from the other attachments so that Tim doesn't use it an accident. |
I'm getting to give Mollie her first clipping and trimming the butt is one thing I was told to make sure I do. It helps to prevent anything "hanging on". |
I tried to take a picture of Esme's bottom for you, but she didn't like it! ;) Her bottom is shaved and it keeps her clean. |

TJ will not tolerate me pulling anything out of his butt hair so what I do is I put a little watter in the bathtub (enough to cover his butt) and I make him sit in the water and soak. That usually takes most of it off and than I shampoo his butt. It's a real pain so I plan on shaving/clipping his behind hair real soon! Thanks again everyone for the replies!! :D |

I have the groomer shave Codie and Katie's butt - otherwise, poop sticks to their hair. |

I think a sanitary clip is necessary to avoid "hang ons". I clipped Gucci's heair also. |

You wanna talk about pulling stuff??? I've got one for the books. A week ago I noticed that Chewy had pulled apart my sofa cushion and the white filling was coming out. Well the next day I saw some of the filling on his ittle but and thought that it might have stuck to him after he poo'd, so I took some tp and started to pull it off. Instead what happened was I pulled OUT a whole string of this cushion filling from his little behind. he had eaten the stuff and now it was coming out. Gotta love 'em :D |

The groomer shaves Lacy and Cruz's butts!! Every once in a while I have her trim Lacy's tail cuz it gets long and little bits of poop gets stuck on it! It's much easier for us that way. Looks neater and cleaner too. |
I have 2 Yorkies and they are BOTH different. Baxter just has his trimmed and we never have a problem with anything getting stuck to his butt :rolleyes: . Chloe is the opposite. EVERYTHING gets stuck to her butt! :eek: I hate it. I mean everything, every time. :rolleyes: So, I guess we should have her butt shaved. Hee hee. ;) |
I trim the hair short there. You can tell on the new pictures I just posted tonight (1st pic. of Mercedes). It really does make it more easy to clean. |
