ok, this is odd.

Should i be wiping my puppies bottom after she poos?

I've been cool with everything up until this point. My mother and sister laughed at me and said man up, of course you should. :confused:

Hmm... well...

I'd say wipe it if she's messy for sure!!! But I think they do a pretty good job of cleaning themselves as well. If you feel like you need to get them extra clean.. go for it! My parents and friends already think I'm turning into a crazy dog person, if they saw me running after my dog with baby wipes every time she pooped they'd probably think I've gone off the deep end. But to each their own! hehe.

Mia's hair is pretty long and sometimes she'll have problems if her poo isn't solid and she ends up a big nasty mess! That's when her whole back end goes in the tub if I can't get her cleaned up with some wipes. A sanitary cut is always a good idea to prevent this problem!

Absolutely, that pup is sitting on your lap, your furniture, and sleeping on your bed, wipe that puppy's butt!!!!!!

I'm a breeder/exhibitor and wipe all my kids butts, they know the drill, turn around when I say "let me see your popo"....Am I crazy, probably.

I do the same thing, the first time hubby saw me he ask me are you wiping her bottom?:eek: and I explained why, and now he does it too, and I don't care what people think if they saw me or not;)

Nope! But, think about....your dog is pretty much a part of the family.....sits on you furniture, on you, etc.....don't you wipe?

People think I am crazy too, but Bobby is all over me, hubby, furniture so I usually wipe his bottom. Most the time its clean, but there are some times where its dirty.

Joey has a really clean poo most of the time, no dingleberries, so to speak, so no wiping here, unless he's having a problem.

None of mine have dingleberries....but, I still wipe.. Whether they are cut down or in show coat....they are wiped

You should see me with my yorkie mom's they go outside to potty.....they get the once over every part of their body......

Have you tried oiling that area.....Primrose oil, Almond oil....some kind of oil....I usually don't have the problem with my full coated show dogs, since they are usually in wraps......and until their furnishings are long enough to wrap, oil or part the hair on each side and band...but, I still wipe

I wipe mine down too, they are allover me and my family and I don't want to take any chances! I do not think it is crazy to want to keep myself and my house clean and fresh;)

Yep, this is our house policy too - we don't get up in their business unless their business has a problem.

LOL!! I know...I was beginning to wonder if I should be wiping - but really their little tushies are spotless unless there is an issue. And I mean, if we're talking microscopic bacteria - a wipe isn't going to remove all that anyway - so then I was all "I ain't wiping, man!!!" - sticking with the house policy!

I'm not taking any chances.......heck I have some of those little butts in my face when I'm sleeping.........and heaven forbid stinky winkies and lil who whos'....And my whelping moms get a bath with antibacterial shampoo as soon as their temp drops.......

Man, this thread makes me so happy. First, b/c I'm a little compulsive with cleaning in general and so a lot of the bum-wipage posts make me feel normal. ALSO, b/c the nice, healthy folks in the non-bum-wipage group are proof that no one will succumb to dysentery or something if I get away from some of my OCD tendencies. Not sure if this makes sense..carry on! :woof:

:thumbup::thumbup: We do the same .... Toto's little legs are so short, she also pees down them sometimes. Patrick hates when he picks her up and gets pee on his dress shirts!! I try to use a wipey for poops and pees! ;) Yep! Some people think we are nuts, but when she backs that little hiney up to us ... we know she doesn't like it any more than we do! :p

Oh man...now you guys really make me wonder if I should have wiped Chloe's bottom after business #2!!!! I don't normally unless there is an issue.........Should I seriously be cleaning that?? Does a damp toilet paper do it course?

I wipe my babies when I need to, thats it. I used to try and wipe them EVERY time... But I got over that!!! LOL

no ones died yet of some sort of bacterial virus from their dog's poo so I think we're safe for the most part.

I think many of us wipe if needed;)

I completely understand those who wipe evvverytime as our dogs are all over our house.

When I first got Sadie, at age two, I wiped. But, it did not last long.
She has long hair, and the groomer gives her a good sanitary cut.

She has a way of hunkering down (looks very funny) when she goes number two. She has probably had a problem with a stool hanging on her three times in the last year. When that happens, she won't move, or go inside. So, that is my tip off that something is not right.

She also licks herself after peeing like a cat. Does anyone else have a Yorkie who does this?

I would def. wipe the bottom if it's a more wet poo....or like others said if she has alot of fur on her "popo" (Sorry I couldn't resist!!!) lol I keep Daizy's "popo" cut pretty short so there's not many times I have to wipe her up!
