humping and shes a girl I had posted about this a long time ago when Callie was a lot younger well now shes doing it again! When we go to bed my grandma lays in bed with me and we talk for a while and eventualy she leaves and goes to her bed but all of a sudden Callie is humping us like in a frenzy if we pick her up to move her she keeps going if we squirt her with the water and say no she keeps going its like she cant stop and she starts breathing heavy and I donno what to do! Why is she doing this? Is there a way to make her stop? She gets very chewy before she starts humping and she 13 pounds so u can deffinitly feel her there her paws digging into u and stuff Im really going crazy with this. Any help is greatly needed and I am very thankful for it. |

Another suggestion, is you need to establish dominance with her, she isn't respecting you. One of the ways to do this is to ask her to sit before you place her food bowl down. Have her sit, and stay before you put the food down. Once you set the food down, have her stay a couple of seconds before you give the release command. If she goes for the food before the command is given, pick up the bow, and keep repeating this until she stays for a few seconds. Each time you feed her do this, this will help teach her that you are to be respected. |
Ava humps only one thing, her zebra. Bowie, he pretty much hmos any toy thats bigger than him |
Nancy has some great advice for you, I recommend that. Naboo's hump toy is goofy and Squeekie's hump toy is Naboo's neck. So I think its normal but I agree that they should never hump you. :D |
Phoebe just to do it when she was little I just told her NO in a firm way and she will stop, she doesn't do it anymore since then:thumbup: |

I agree correct this behavior immediately, it is not sexual, it is not funny, it is a sign that the dog feels you are inferior, and it is BAD behavior Start doing things to let the dog know that you are in charge. Walk towards them and make them back up, make them sit before you feed thm, eat in front of them and don't let them have any. And don't give them toys to hump. this is like any other bad behavior, it needs to be corrected. |

This might seem minor to you, because they are so little, but imagine if you had a great Dane would you allow it to hump your sofa? |

I knew there was a reason I wanted a yorkie instead of a Great Dane. :D |
She has a toy but she wont do it to the toy just us and if I push her away and say no she come back and does it again |

In my situation I KNOW its a dominance thing... Roxi has NEVER tried to hump me (she knows better!!) HOWEVER recently she has started to try and hump Rocco (we have had him about 5 months now)... Total dominance thing.. He is 8 mo. and we are waiting for him to get bigger before he is neutered, but I think after few months of Rocco "trying" to hump Roxi, she has equated this to "control", and now tries to hump him... When I see this, I stop the behavior IMMEDIATELY. If she tries to continue, I put her on her back (not aggressively) and hold her for a few seconds to show her who is REALLY in control.. It has gotten better in the last several weeks. I would under NO circumstance let either of my dogs hump me for even a second... I know it may seem funny, but to them it means much more than a giggle and you can't let them get away with thinking THEY are in control... YOU are! YOU are the "leader of the pack"!!! Good luck..... |
I dont have any advice really but I did want to make you feel better. You could have a little girl like mine, not only does she hump daily but she does it to our MALE CAT! My girl is gender and speies confused as well as h****y! |
I had a pomeranian that did this when she was 5 or 6 years old. The vet said that spaying her would do the trick. That is what we did and she never had that issue again. He said it had to do with her having too much testosterone... Who knows? |

My Chewy is 4 yrs old and is a spayed female, and she humps me! Since she's generally good with me and respectful (knows I'm in charge), I assumed it WAS sexual and would let her, thinking she needed to get her urges out. Now I know it's definitely not that, and that she really is trying to show her dominance. I'm going to try a few of the things you all suggested, making her wait for her food etc... Oops! Thanks!!! Also to the person who posted this thread... When your dog does this I suggest just persistently pushing her away, even if it takes 20 tries. I plan on now just pushing her off me, and I'll move away if need be. When I say in a stern voice "no", she usually listens (sometimes it takes a few tries), but she doesn't like to "disappoint" me, as I believe these dogs like to please their owners? Stand your ground. In other situations I've used the technique before someone else mentioned here, where you gently grab her and put her on her back, letting you know YOU're the "leader of the pack". Good luck! |
Bree use to hump her bed every chance she got, but all of a sudden she just stopped. |
Yes, I have had a problem with Suzi Humping my leg, or arm. I put a quick stop the behavior , and tell her NO ! in A firm voice. She tries it again anyway, and then I repeat the Nol ! The odd thing about aasuzi is that she only tries humping me? I am certain thei is a dominance thing with her, because she knows that I am the head of house hold. SHE's never ever done it to anyone else. Suzi started this behavior only at about 5 months old. She's 7 months now , and every once in a while still tries it. :aimeeyork |
she did it again last night and I pushed her away and said no and she stopped for a minute and then did it again and before I had time to push her away my grandma goes no and she stops and goes and lays down I dont get why she wont listen to me she does for the most part about everything else. I asked my grandma and thinking she was being funny she said cuz your her mother. Callie is not a bad dog or mean or anything but I'm thinking this is my fault I havent made her listen to me and stuff enough because when she dosent I just brush it off but I'm not going to do that anymore I know I need to get her listening to me better exspecialy for her safety if she gets out the front door or if she gets an to anything unsafe. I feel kinda like a failure. :( |
It is just sex.. it feels good. it gets a great reaction from the owners.. what a wonderful reinforcement and it a stress reliever. JL |

My Suzi is A sweetheart too, and loves to play, has a lot of energy, and just sometimes does undesired behavior . Do not blame yourself. IT is what dogs do, even females .With time and patience , your dog can be trained not to do the behavior. PLease don't be so hard on yourself. |
My Yorkie is 5 1/2 months old and she has a stuffed giraffe that she humps. I dont make her stop because the Vet told me it was natural for her to do this with her toy. If she were humping me, I would push her away immediately but she has never humped anything other than her giraffe. Im told that it is a dominance issue too. |

Ava is spayed and she still does it |
I agree that it may be a dominance behavior. I have never had a dog try to hump me or any human for that matter. However, Katy Lou has just started to hump her soft furry bed that I keep on the couch for her. I just give her a toy to change her train of thought and ignore the behavior. I don't yell at her or anything. I think once she is spayed she may forget to do this. |

I do not believe that it is normal behavior for a well adjusted, submissive, neutered/spayed dog. it is bad behavior and should not be allowed. In fact if a male is allowed to do it their penis will come out and can become sore and infected. Y'all can let yours do it if you want to, but in my house there will be no such behavior. |

Well, I don't know about that, but I heard that humping could cause hair to grow on the pads of their feet! |
