Most of the time it is cute and laughable. It is annoying in the middle of the night if you get up to use the bathroom and they all get up with you - thinking it is morning and time to play. Or when you and your spouse want some "private time" and the dogs are trying to pound the bedroom door down.

Ours are quiet if we kennel them, but we used to have a Yorkie who was not. To have privacy, we had to put her in the back seat of our car in the garage. The garage was heated and cooled, so she was comfortable, but very pissed off.

LOL when My Husband and I want private time ours are right there with us also

Can't go alone....

Lol My Dax follows me everywhere.... if I get up in the night to use the BR he still follows me... I also have a Maltese and she stays right on the bed even tho she is as least as attached to me as dax. Sometimes when it's cold I wish he would just keep my spot warm while I go alone lol. I will not leave the room when they are eating as I am afraid he would follow me and Darla would eat his food. If your dog is a yorkie baby do not expect this to stop. I think thats one reason Dax gets so sad when I leave cause he cannot follow. Also the post that talks about "no secret exit from the batroom".... hilarious:D

MeganJ 09-25-2008 07:24 AM

All three of my babies follow me and my husband around all the time. They have to be with us at all times. Its cute, and you just get use to it. :)

Diego 09-25-2008 07:33 AM

The day Nathan and Frimousse will stop following me , I'll ask myself lots of questions .

Darlin Beauxs 09-25-2008 07:52 AM

I think the cutest thing mine do is when Daddy gets up for work in the morning, they walk to the edge of the bed and look. Baxter has to get down and see his Dad off..then he comes back to the bed and barks LOUDLY to announce he wants back in bed. :D

Cooper and Darcy stick to me like glue. When I am the first one to get up, and I am getting everyone out of bed for "potty" Baxter will jump over his Dad and curl up against his back, as if to say "I'm not getting up yet, Mom!"

I sometimes walk over to the other side of the bed, just to see him get aggravated, and jump over to the other side of his Dad. Bad Mommy, I know :) ;)

celstu1 09-25-2008 10:41 AM

both my babies follow me all the time, get up out of sleep to follow me from the bedroom to the bathroom. Just how it goes. They are over 3 years old and have always done this. :) I love it! (well most of the time) LOL soooo does pita stand for pain in the a--??? LOL (kidding!)

tiggerr36792 09-25-2008 10:46 AM

I don't think they ever stop following us around. Mine make me feel like the pied piper all the time. Mine won't even go into the kitchen for breakfast unless I call them in there, Gloria calls them and they look at me like welll Mom you go in there first, lol.

But I read in another thread that it's good to not let your babies have full range of the house. I am going to buy the play pen for my baby...which will not allow him to follow me. Is there a time when I can let him have full range of the house as a puppy so that he will learn to follow me everywhere?

You don't need to train them to follow you, they do it instinctually. :) My boys have full run of the house, they always did. Even as pups. (granted I have a pretty small house) but I had to carry them up stairs until they were about 4 months old. When you are not home though make sure you keep your pup crated though, for his own safety and the safety of your house! Trust me!:D

tishas_star 09-25-2008 11:05 AM

My pack follows me everywhere but my GOLDEN is the worst about it! She doesn't follow me per se.....she walks in front of me, but she walks BACKWARDS so she can anticipate my every step, she can even walk up the stairs backwards! She tends to walk next to me going down the stairs though. If I get up in the night to go to the bathroom they all wake up and the Golden, Husky and Jack Russell/Miniature Pinscher follow me, but Gwen (the lone Yorkie) sits on the end of the bed and watches me, if I'm gone for more than a minute she hops off the bed and comes to check on me....even though she can SEE me! Then goes right back to bed and sits on Daddy's feet waiting on me to come back! They're all crazy! If I stand up from my desk and sit right back down they all stand up! It's too funny!

LoveMyJake 09-25-2008 11:41 AM

Both of mine follow me everywhere, ALWAYS. If I'm sitting down, one is always on my lap and the other is right next to me. Sometimes they are both on my lap. If I'm up and moving, they follow me. If I get up in the middle of the night, Jake stays asleep in bed. He knows I'll be right back. However, Jackson will follow me, half asleep. He has to be with me at ALL times. Right now, one is on my lap and the other is sleeping with his head on my foot lol.

Yorkies get VERY attached to their owners.:)

lreed 09-25-2008 11:44 AM

My 3 Yorkies follow me everywhere also. It gets really tricky sometimes when nature is calling really loud and you have to wait for ALL of the group to get into the bathroom before you can tend to things....I have wet my pants a little bit at this point! Not a good thing!

YorkieLover9 09-25-2008 11:46 AM

That's for sure. If Canyon's not right on my heels, I know he's up to mischief somewhere and I better go look. Only thing is, we get used to them following us, I've been out in public in a store and have looked down at the ground before I took a step to make sure Canyon wasn't under my feet and he wasn't even with me.

kwaymon 09-25-2008 02:14 PM

Yes! I love it! I love that Tucker follows me everywere. It makes me feel so good and I don't feel guilty about disturbing his sleep because he naps all day anyway! The only place he won't follow me is into the bathroom because he knows that's where he gets his bath and his teeth brushed and he hates that!!!

Exactly

ketters12 09-25-2008 04:01 PM

I am not sure that they will ever completely stop but I have found that it gets a little better. At first Tobey would also wake up from a nap to follow me, but now he is about a year and nine months and he will only get up if I don't return back to the room he's in in like 5 min. or so.

I do tell him that he is OCD very frequently though:p It's like they just can't help themselves!! they just HAVE to know what you are doing!!

Actually it does!!! My 16 year old son picked the name :Dout for that reason! LOL

Catrina 09-26-2008 10:38 AM

Haha this thread is so cute.. yorkies are like baby ducks.. always following their mamas :) princess follows me like 95% of the time.. the other 5% goes to her sitting on the couch in our living room keeping an eye on the window looking for wild animals :D

PANAMA69 09-26-2008 12:33 PM

All mine too, I told my hubby yesterday that I have my own fan club:D

This makes me feel guilty for disturbing her sleep! Do any of your yorkies do this and is there an age that they stop?

My Peanut follows me everywhere too. Even to the rest room. You're not alone :)

GeorgiaGrits 09-26-2008 04:48 PM

Yep, Elvis and I are 'inseparable'. When hubby picks him up to just cuddle him or whatever, Elvis immediately cranes his neck looking for me! He only has eyes for me...incredible! I love it.

Smarty Bones 09-26-2008 06:18 PM

does it change when you have 2 or more? i mean will they go off together, or does your "fan club" just get bigger? lol

Darlin Beauxs 09-26-2008 06:36 PM

Yes, it only gets bigger. I have a "pup-tourage" of 3. As I type this, I am sitting at my kitchen table working on some orders, and 2 pups are laying at my feet, and one is sitting beside me on the long bench that runs on one side of the kitchen table, supervising. Nevermind Daddy is laying on the comfy couch! ;)

dinolover 09-29-2008 11:36 AM

You really get used to it. I do feel bad when I wake up in the middle of the night and he follows me to the bathroom. I wish I could tell him that it's alright, just keep sleeping. It is true what they say when they are NOT following you that is when you need to be worried, that means that they are up to mischief. :) Dino follows me around everywhere, occasionally I lock him out of my bedroom when I need some alone time, it only lasts a couple minutes because the clawing and barking get on my nerves :D I love him to death, and I love that he is so attached to me, I just feel bad disturbing him sometimes.

cobird2 09-29-2008 11:58 AM

Wouldn't You Miss It?

I would miss my "shadow" if he didn't follow me everywhere he can. The minute I sit down, he's usually right next to me. It's hard getting out the door without him sometimes...he's fast!
Yes, I do feel guilty when he's comfy and I get up and he has to follow me.
:aimeeyork

kjk723 09-29-2008 04:05 PM

My husky is 13 and still follows me everywhere. GiGi is 2 is always at my side. I do not remember what is like to go to the bathroom or even take a bath without them. I am constantly tripping on them, stepping on them in the middle of the night. Stepping on Mosheh is no joke either! You step on them and then realize it and try to readjust and you end of getting hurt! OH and if they arent there. WHAT ARE THEY DOING? No good comes when my dogs arent near me!!!

zenzele 09-29-2008 05:48 PM

Yorkies Never Stop Following You

:) I guess you see that the consensus is that Yorkies do not ever stop following you, and yes they will wake up and follow you...dogs are light sleepers. It's their pack nature and definitely a yorkie trait to follow you. If your Yorkie is not following you then you'd better go check on her because she's definitely getting into trouble! Yorkies want your constant companionship! My Yorkie is 5 years old, I've had her for nine months. Enjoy your baby, you'll never find another living creature with such unconditional love for you!!

Following You

Hi,
My yorkie follows me alot to. But I have been able to train him to STAY, you can train him to STAY and after a while he will understand. I actually can get up and do things around the house and he will just lay on the couch. I would try not showing him attention when he follows you. After a little training with the STAY command and ignoring him you might find he doesn't follow you as much. But it will not stop completely. Yorkies are companion dogs and love to be with you. :)

:animal36:wavey:

Oh, and my yorkie actually doesn't get up at night with me anymore. I started out telling him to stay when I got up to go to the bathroom. He will now only come if I call his name. Which I only do when its time to go out in the morning.

Hope this helps.

melanie daley 09-30-2008 07:02 PM

No they will never stop following you!! LOL
At least I know my two won't.... I can barely get into the bathroom and shut the door!!

And if I don't leave the room and I'm just walking around, their little heads roll around watching me as they are laying down!! They NEVER take their eyes off me!! And you know what?? I LOVE IT!!!

Moses 09-30-2008 07:10 PM

Following You

We'll I can only tell you my experience. Of course I only have one and have spent time training him to STAY. Yes, he still follows me but if I tell him to stay he will.

Yorkies are really smart and can actually be trained easily. But again all animals are different.

Hope my experience can help someone.
