Her EARS! Okay, I'm back on this again. She's 7 weeks old. What do I need to do about the floppy ears? A friend suggested I get them shaved? HELP! I want her to have ears that perk up! |

Pix's ears flop then go back to straight then flop then it's the other ear and it's been happening since I have her, for about one month. She is 17 weeks old now. I also did some research about this only to find out that this is normal and the ears will 99% be straight forever when they grow up a bit more. Even my vet told me the same, so don't worry !:) |
This is another site Jon-An's Yorkshire Terriers (How to train Yorkies ears to stand) |
floppy ears I don't want to discourage you but my yorkie's ears never did prick. She's almost 4 years old. She can prick them when she wants to and does so very expressively but most of the time they flop. I've gotten used to it and find it cute. She's only 3 lbs. I don't know if the little ones are less likely to have pricky ears. |
Why the hurry for goodness sake....she is only 7 weeks...give her until she is 14 weeks or so, then try taping....but they might well be up by themselves by then...just leave them alone...it's all part of being a puppy ! Lovvies, Debra x x x x :D |
The breeder where I got Fiona from, used to rub her ears vigoursley and then she would shave the tips... they seem to be perking up...they stand up when she wants them too! |

She is just a bitty baby. Our yorkie pup is 12 weeks at 9 weeks I shaved her ears on the backs and close clipped the sides. 1 week later I did the same and up they went! They don't flop at all now. Give your baby some time, shave them if you want but I would not tape them for another 2 months. |
she is young I think they will go up later |
Don't worry about the ears at 7 weeks. She is still really young. I got my pup at 12 weeks, and he had floppy ears. It just took taping, massaging the ears, and trimming the ears, and eventually they stayed up. I believe they started staying up by themselves for him by the time he was 4-5 months old. But I'm sure this will vary between dogs. It just takes some time. Good luck!! |
Are the ears supposed to be up? Is it bad if they flop? I happen to like Nala's floppy ears? Is it bad for her health or something??? |
Having the ears up are to make the breed look like the Yorkie standard. I know plenty of yorkies that have their ears down. I trained my yorkie's ears to stay up because I like the way ears up look. It has nothing to do about health so I wouldn't worry. Ears down are cute too!! |
Oh okay good...thanks...I was worried for sec |
I read somewhere that massaging their ears helps - gets the bloodflow going. But I can't source that, nor do I know from experience if it works or not? Anyone? Lexi has floppy ears, I thought about tapping but I had just gone through that will our doberman and decided against it. I thought I might regret not taping them up, but I'm really glad I didn't. Your baby is only 7 weeks old so I wouldn't worry about it too much at this time. It can take up to 6 months or so for them to stand, and sometimes they flop due to teething. |
