When we go to the vet... I may be a bit overprotective - but when I take my furbutts to see Dr. Amy, I never ever let them walk on the floor nor do I let them visit with other dogs - I don't even like for people with dogs there to get too close. Animal Clinics just like people hospitals are full of sick people/animals and I don't want my guys exposed. I try very hard not to be rude or unpleasant, but geez, please keep your germs to yourself! Am I alone in this? |
I also do the same with my baby. |
We do the same for the most part. Ellie is carried in the lobby and carried to the exam room. Then she is put on the table. I have let her on the floor at least once because I wanted to see if she could walk (after a vaccine) but I keep that to a minimum. The part I don't like is all the dogs getting weighed and the scale isn't sanitized in between (that I have seen anyway). |
I'm the same way... i actually had someone ask to hold gremlin once.. i was like uhhh no sorry. |
I'm the same way. I keep mine in their stroller until it's their turn to get up on the table:rolleyes: |
Cindy we don't either, we don't let them touch the floor and I even ask somentime, jus to make sure if they wipe the table:rolleyes: the vet make them put a clean fresh towel for us lol |
I let Conner walk on the floor once, and a couple of days later he was sick, and he never gets sick. He was vomiting from 1 a.m. until late afternoon. Since then, I put him in the stroller, which I wheel to the exam room. The goes onto a stainless steel exam table (which weighs him also) that has been disinfected before he gets on. I will never let those little paws touch the floor again. |
I am the same with Poppy at the vet, home, visiting etc lol |
I'm the same way. I go in, sign in and tell them I'll be waiting ouside. I usually just sit and hold him on the benches outside. |
Me too. Aren't they more susceptible to things anyway since they're a smaller breed? |
Same here. I'm always torn tho. Layla can be quite the B*tch to other dogs when she is in my arms (She feels the need to protect me) but it's not worth the risk of what she might catch. |

When I was in nursing school, I had to do a term paper for my Microbiology class - it was probably my *favorite* paper I ever did (and I hated papers, btw!). Anyway, it was about Nosocomial Infections - a huge topic in hospitals. Basically, it's an infection caught by a person from just being IN a hospital/clinic - because infectious agents in hospitals/clinics are RAMPANT. So really, this also applies to animals - there are germs/infectious agents in vet clinics. So, it's wise to protect your babies. :) |
I'm super paranoid about Toto and germs. The thing I love about her vets ... everything is pristine. They disinfect the exam tables after each patient and put a clean, thick towel on it. The only time Toto is out of my sight is when she and Dr. Coons parade the entire hospital showing her off every tme she is there. He's madly in love with her! :p |
Unless it's an extreme emergency, I have my vet come to my house. She only charges $35 for a house call, and I usually have her check my horses, cat, dogs, and treat whomever needs whatever. When the house call charge is divided amongst my assorted animals, the cost is minimal, and I don't have to worry about taking anyone to the clinic and picking up any germs there. It is well worth the extra cost for her to come to my house. |
I carry my babies into the vet clinic too. The last time I was there I had to take Tawny in to get her last set of shots. I had her in a pet taxi because she don't ride to well. Well my nephew was with me. He let her out of the pet taxi and put her on the floor. Sitting right next to them was a sick boxer. I snatched Tawny up and walked away from the poor baby. My nephew walked over to me and asked why did I snatch her up. I said because I don't let them touch the floor because you never know what disease is floating around. Well come to find out that boxer had parvo  |
