Thank you so much for this thread! I feel like such a bad mom - I never really thought about it. I have never seen a sick animal while I was in the waiting room, but HELLO??? I could just kick myself for stuff like this. Like so many things on YT, this gives me something totally new to think about (ok, worry about) - and hopefully it will make me a better mom for my Roxy girl. |
I never really think about it honestly. My vets office is always so clean and we are in and out. |

(only in the waiting room. There was a blood smear ewwwww.) so he was not put anywhere near the ground! :) |
I don't let mine down on the floor either. Just last week I told the office manager that there should be two waiting rooms. One for the infectious/sick, and a well check/surgery side. Just like they have isolation rooms in the back, these babies should be separated. We all know our babies leave any vets office with fleas...so who knows what else they are exposed to while there. |

I'm with you Cindy....(and we know Stella is at the vets alot). Her little paws never touch the floor, or furniture for that matter. |
No way would I let them walk in there...not only for the germs...but I've seen it happen so many times where the door is flung open and in walks a huge dog straining on the leash!! Before I even enter the office, I peek in the glass door to make sure the small waiting room does not have any Cujos in there!! |
I think their immune systems are much better than ours hehe.......so mine walk in, visit with other dogs then sit on the sofa with me. They have never been sick. I think the Vets. office is much cleaner than a dog park since the floors are always disinfected whereas the dog park germs stay in the ground. I won't go to dog parks because of that reason. You don't know if Parvo is lurking or if some of those dogs even go to a Vet. ;) |
I do the same. Mine stay in their carrier until it's time to be examined. I also won't let them on the floor at Petsmart. Since everyone who gets a new puppy goes their and who nows what they may have. |
I carry suzi and do not put her down... the vet assistant comes in and does the basics, then Suzi is right back in my arms. The vet is the only one who touches her, then she is right back in our arms. Even in the waiting room, i will not sit next to anybody with their pets. I have my son clean his hands if he touches anther pet too. i am more on the overly cautious too. :aimeeyork |
No you're not alone!! We do the same thing, keep them off the floor and ask the vet or tech to wipe the table off where they are going to be checked/weighed etc. LOL, I thought I was alone, thanks for sharing that, I am not crazy after all :D:D |
You are definitely not alone! Maxi stays in my arms the whole time we are in the waiting room. Now that we got a nice stroller I will be bringing him in it. :) |
carry alcohol it doesnt hurt to carry a bottle of alcohol in your purse..with a few paper towels... good cleaner disinfectant..and dries fast.. great for supermarket carts with my grandson..or vets office scales.. the floor is the scariest:eek: |
