I went real slow, especially with Pebbles (she had been messed up by a groomer with her other family). I started out by just holding the drill by the girls with it on, not trying to touch them or anything. Letting them be curious & get used to the noise. Then with it off - I started bringing it closer & touching them, laying it by them, etc. Then, by following this site below, I began to do Lucy's nails with ease. I am still working with Pebbles slowly. I keep their hair on their paws trimmed real short, to avoid any chance of catching the hair in the tool. How to Dremel Dog Nails @ DoberDawn.com |
I always wondered about these. I have seen many of them on Ebay, and they were A lot more the $19.99 . I think they look pretty nice, and easy to use , but, my Suzi is A brat. She would not tolerate them. I am going to use the old method for A while lol. She might calm down when older, then i'll try those.:aimeeyork |
I don't mess with my pups nails. I think I'm more jumpy about it than they are. I leave it to the professionals and I trust my groomer. They've never had their nails cut too short and they are really good with the clippers. I think I'll be sticking to the old fashioned way of nail trimming. |
:thumbup:So I went out and bought it tonight and I'm very pleased with it. It took a little bit to get the hang of it but, now I like it. Meeko was a little iffy at first but, he started to trust me within a few minutes. I'm glad I got it. |
I just ordered it about 1 week ago and paid $30, I'm so mad, I wish i would have gone to Bed and Bath first. I can't wait to try it either. |
Darn! I didn't know B-B & Beyond had them! I ordered it 4 weeks ago and still not recieved it. :thumbdown I got a post card in the mail this week saying the demand was so high that it might be another 4 weeks. I wish I could cancel it. I am anxious to try it. I wish I knew that Bed, Bath and Beyond had them before I ordered it. I don't live near one but my kids do and they come home every weekend. My Daughter in law says she gets coupons for there all the time too. RATS!!!! OH well I guess I will play the game. |

Very informative, hopefully helpful, link. I ordered the Peticure and will have to wait to see how well I will be able do this. |
Well, day 2 of the pedi paws. I am able to turn it on and actually put in on their body. Maggie still a little scared but at least I can get close. I have been putting it on their nails (not turned on) to get them used to that. It will probably be another couple of days before I actually turn it on though. |
I did Meeko's front 2 paws last night and his back 2 today. He was very good with it. He's use to me clipping him, though. The pedi paws is not any louder than a clipper. I had an easier time using it without the orange saftey guard. With the guard on, the hole isn't very big and his nail kept hitting it and I had the hardest time rounding the edges without hitting the edge. Maybe it was just me being nervous at first. After I hit his nails a few times, he got a little uneasy. I stopped for a while and went back without the guard and he layed on his back and didn't move at it. I made sure to trim the hairs around his nails before I started, didn't want any hair to get caught around it. I couldn't believe how still he was for me. If you're baby is ok with the little hum of clippers, than they shouldn't be bothered by this. I hope you guys have good luck with your babies, I think it's so much safer than cutting their nails. |
Okay, I went to get one today and just tried it on Chloe. Since it was my FIRST time ever file or cut a dog's nails. I was soooo nervous!! I didn't file long at all. Chloe didn't like it as much, but oh well...her "mean mommy" still continue using it!! Can someone take a picture and let me know how short I can cut a Yorkie's nail? I can't really see the quick since Yorkie has dark nails color? Thanks!! |

I haven't heard of this one before ... only Peticure. Not sure which to choose now  |
On our local news channel they have a weekly segment called "does it work" featuring a different item each week. They gave it a raving yes after allowing the lady at the animal shelter try on her rescue dogs and cats right on camera. She was truely in love with it. This is not an avertisement and they are sure to tell you if it doesnt work. So I'm getting one in my stocking for Christmas......;) On the show, cats just gathered around the woman using it..... it must not have been too scarey..... Quote:

I currently use a dremel with good success but It takes two of us to do ...one to hold and file and one to keep long hair from getting caught up in it....... |
Does it come in different sizes like the Peticure does? One for small dogs and one for big dogs and small dogs? |
 Quote:

So I bought 2 C batteries to put in the pedipaws, watched the instruction video online, and I used it on my yorkie. I had someone holding him, and so that helped me alot. You use it on one nail at a time for 3-5 seconds before moving on to the next one. You can always go back later to the nail, but you definitely want to switch nails because it might hurt them if you keep it on for longer than 5 seconds. (This was written on the website directions). My yorkie was surprisingly very calm, and it was successful on him. I am definitely keeping my Pedipaws. The only negative thing that I encountered is that this product is made for right handers (as are a lot of items). But I am ambidextrous so I was able to use it. If you are only a left hander, it is going to be difficult because you HAVE to use it with your right hand to do it correctly. |

Oh, not longer than 5 seconds? good to know! I just did few seconds on each nail anyway. How often can we trim their nails? I think I could trim more since Chloe's nails are still pretty long. Thanks!!! Yorkie's nails are so dark, I don't really know where is the quick is at! Also, what can I do to make sure their hairs dont get caught with the pedi paws? |
I'm not sure as to how often. My yorkie's nails are long too. My groomer told me that you will know when you are approaching the quick when there is like a dot in the middle of the nail. When you see this dot, you stop. To hold the hair back, other YT members have been using old pantyhose and putting it over the dogs nails so that you only see the nails and hold the hair back. |
Oh, I forgot to mention, make sure you have treats in your hand or close by. I think that may have been another reason why my yorkie did so well with the pedipaw. :) |
I saw this thread and bought one. I like that it is battery powered so there is no charging issue, but it only has one speed. Has anyone had any problems with the speed setting being too fast or anything? I still want to see the difference between the pedi paws and the peticure! |
Got it Got pedipaws yesterday, Emma has the shortest smoothest nails she's ever had. It buzzes but not nearly as loud as my dremmel. I am proud I spent the money for this new tool.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: |
Great Tips Thanks, starbabe0182, for the tip about the pantihose to hold the hair away from the nails...was wondering about tangling. I just got mine yesterday-BB&B-those 20% coupons reel me in every time-and have started the de-sensitizing process suggested before I even put the tool to his nails. He's great getting clipped by the vet or the groomer but he squirms around-two of us doing it-and we've clipped too close a few times and caused bleeding which is scary! |
I was able to do 2 of Hot Rod's nails before he pull away. He's not scared of the pedipaw but I think it is him feeling my anxiety more. I can put the running wand on him and his paw without him flinching. I am going to get hubby to hold both of them while I try to do the nails. Maggie is still afraid of the whole ordeal. lol. She doesn't even want to held at the same time as the pedipaw! |

Hello, I just used it again today, and I discovered that left handers could use this product. They just have to position the dog long ways, the dogs face/paws are facing towards your left, so that they are filing from the side, not directly facing the dog from the front, as all the videos show. Does that make sense? Hope that helps left handers!! |
I saw the commercial for this and want to get it so bad. I def. need one! |
I went to BBB and bought mine this am, I used my $5 off coupon on it....I did Baxter and Cooper, they both struggled a little in the beginning, but I promised treats and told them what good boys they were... I love this tool!! The boys have such smooth nails now, and it works so quickly! I also bought the "Pet Shower Deluxe" this week too, which I did a review on...I feel like I am getting my own little grooming shop going :). |
I'm lefty and had no trouble. Good luck Quote:

I just have a funny story to share with all of you.... So, I was trying to trim Chloe's nails by myself...it was little hard since she didn't like it that much! But anyway, when I was trimming her nails with the pedi paws..I said to myself..."you can do it, just one more "feet" to go!" at that time, I only trimmed one paw so far..but some odd reason...I kept thinking Chloe only has 2 paws (like human that we only have 2 feet) LOL! Then I realize she is a dog and she has 4 paws! ahh...I was like...geez, 3 more to go! How silly am I? I really treated Chloe like a human sometimes....my neighbor always make fun of me that I don't think I have a dog.......:p |
