| I feel like a HORRIBLE mommy!!! Teddy has Coccidia!!!! I am so upset! Apparently he has had it since he was a young pup! The breeder had me convinced that the diarreha was just from the stress of going to a new home (which is a possiblity)... From what the vet told me, when he is stressed it is worse..... I was so worried that I might have brought it home from the pound (I'm a volunteer), and now it looks like he may have infected our foster pups, so I need to call all the ones that have home and let them know to be on the look out! i feel so horrible! Anyone have any advice????

| thanks.. I have tried so hard to male sure he always has the best! I feed him Wellness, he get homemade treats, I brush him, put him in obedience training... I feel like I dropped the ball! I should have had the vet do a fecal exam earlier! I have him on meds now though, I guess I get points for getting it taken care of!!

| I agree with everyone else. You are not a bad mother. You did just fine and pups like kids get sick when in contact sometimes with other dogs. JL |

| Scooter had coccidia from his breeder too! It might go unnoticed at the breeder's place, but stressful events make it 'wake up.' Luckily the vet noticed when I handed in a fecal for his puppy check up right after I brought him home. 5 days of meds and he was fine! Good thing you finally did catch it before it turned serious though! I think that means you're a GOOD mommy, you prevented days in doggy ER!

| thanks all! you all REALLY help he is acting like a pup again!! My only concern now is what to do about the pups! The vet wouldn't give me meds for them since they were not there for him to check.... I can't afford to take the rescue pups up there, it would cost me over $500! I have read about natural remedies I wonder if any of them work??

| You could call Revival Animal Health (1-800-786-4751) and order the solution to make Albon, which is the common treatment for coccidia. It comes in a 12% solution but needs to be diluted down to a 5% solution. It's diluted with things such as Crystal Light or pudding mix to make it palatable as it's not tasty. They can give you the dilution recipe and dosages for weight of the puppies. I don't really like their recipe (the dogs don't either) but have made my own that the pups like. I always give my pups a 'just in case' treatment of this. Albon is a fairly benign treatment and won't harm a dog if they don't have coccidia. PM me if you go that route and want a different recipe. The cost for this, which will be way more than you need, would be under $50. |

| thanks! I will look into it! The vet gave me 4 Rxs for Teddy.. sulfa , flagy, a 3+3 (???), and kyflex.. I know one of them is an albon type one.... i think the flagy is a just in case there was girardia in there too...
