I need your advise  2 Attachment(s) I am just devastated right now. I have seen so many post about people taking there babies to the groomers and going to pick them up and being devastated, well now I truly know what they feel like. My beautiful baby was cut way to short. I am in tears. His little legs was almost shaved. My stomach is in knots. Then she tells me that I need to take him to the vet from now on and have him sedated to be groomed because he is to afraid of the clippers and scissors. I don't know what to do now. He is only 6 1/2 months old and I have had him groomed 3 times already. He is such a sweet puppy but he is so afraid of being groomed. I thought that if I started him out young and let the professionals do it that he would be alright but boy was I so wrong. I am just so sick. Any suggestions on what to do about grooming now? I am just at a complete loss. The first pic is a week ago and the second is now. |
Have you thought about grooming him yourself? We just recently started doing that with two of ours. Sue who is a member on here and is a professional groomer sells a video on how to groom your Yorkie. If this isn't something you think you want to do, I would suggest bringing pictures with you that show a cut style that you are looking for. I think we have all learned the hard way, that you have to be really specific. Are there other groomers you can try in your area? Your Yorkie is a puppy and if you haven't been happy with his cuts and they are now telling you to sedate him  I would, be looking for a new one! Alot of dogs are afraid of clippers and scissors, puppies especially! Good luck! He is still adorable!! |
My baby is the same way,I was taking him to a groomer and found out they were sedateing him without telling me.so i didnt know him was like that til he was older.but now my vets office does his grooming and they do a good job and has never had to sedate him yet,but have told me that he is very scared of the clippers and scissors. I just hope he dont get a eye poked out one day. I think 6 months is a little young to be sedated just to be groomed,I would check around for a better groomer. |
I'm so sorry to hear that. :( Perhaps you can learn how to groom him? I like grooming my dogs because I can go at my pace and let the dogs relax. My boyfriends cocker was taken to a groomer and hated it. He is a sensitive guy and is one of those dogs that you can just see the fear pouring out. I decided to start grooming him and now he just sits there and lets me.… I let him have breaks in between. Also getting them use to clippers. I would leave them and set them beside me while we played , then eventually put them against him. He does great now. I started with Suri a few days ago, she let me shave her bum and her ears. :) |
I absolutly am not going to let him be sedated to be groomed. I guess I will have to start trying it myself. I have trimmed his ears and butt before but it is between the eyes that I am not sure of. I did take a picture with me today. Its the same pic I took last time and she did a perfect job. She has done a good job everytime until today. It just really breaks my heart. I know it will grow back but he just doesnt look like my lil Lucky. Oh well, I just have to get used to it. I love my baby....:) |
ahhh, Sorry he went through so much getting groomed, but what it's worth, I still think he looks adorable!!!!! |
4 Attachment(s) So sorry about the hair cut, that happens to me with my Phoebe( as a puppy) and since then I do it myself. Please note not all groomer are bad, I'm sure they are good ones out there, but they are hard to find jmho. Here are some pictures of my poor Phoebe:eek: From this to this: I cry all the way home and hubby was so mad at that place:mad: |

i want you to know that he is adorable, know matter what. I am sorry it was not what you wanted or expected. I am going to start learning how to groom Suzi myself. I bought a clipper set over the weekend. check the thread out about grooming ,it is full of information and great support. I am sorry this was a bad experience at the groomer. |
1 Attachment(s) From the positive point of view is summer time so your baby wouldn't be so hot and winter comes and you can always put some coat on, by next summer will be fine, hair will grow back here is Phoebe with her coat all grown. Your baby look so cute no matter what, hope hubby don't get as mad that mine did. |
Oh bless your heart. I bet his hair will grow back fast! He's cute either way. Yes, I think the thing to do is to either find another groomer who you can have a good heart to heart talk with about what you've experienced, what you expect and that you trust or learn to groom him at home. I've decided to groom Abby and Daisy at home too. I just groomed Abby today for the first time and it went pretty well. It took a long time because we took breaks inbetween and I had to sneak up on her while she was sleeping to cut the hair close to her eyes, but for what I paid for a couple good pairs of scissors and clippers, I couldn't even have had them groomed once! And I don't worry the whole time they're gone. I wish you all the best and Lucky is so cute, he would be adorable even if he was bald. |

Let me first say that your Lucky is a very cute little guy....in both of those pictures. I am so sorry you are not happy with his hair cut and his grooming experiance(s), but be assured he IS still adorable and his hair will grow back. In the meantime, IMO, everychance you get while he's resting on your lap or whenever, brush him gently while talking to him, and reward him with tiny treats. Use your hands to touch, feel, and play with his ears, feet & toes, nails, mouth, tail, etc., to get him familiar and at ease when being groomed. If you have scissors and/or clippers, and even if you don't want to actually do anything yourself, periodically "pretend" to use them on him to get him comfortable with the feel and/or the sound, again importantly, praise & reward him while doing it. Do all of these things for very short periods of time, but regularly. I believe given time, he will learn to trust and know that grooming doesn't have to be a bad thing. I brush all four of my furbabies at least every other day, give them baths every 2 weeks (at least), and will trim where needed when I think they are starting to look shaggy. Every so often I might splurge and actually take them to a groomer here in town that I really like. Good luck to you....and to Lucky! |
Oh you poor thing!! I had the same thing happen to me earlier this summer. Finally Ranger's hair is the length it was when he was cut so short. It does grow- I promise!!! I would strongly suggest starting to groom your sweet boy by yourself. It is the perfect time to begin, as you wont be trimming too much hair for quite awhile as she cut him so short. I have been doing it all summer, and now that he's growing out a bit, I feel confident because I was able to "practice" all summer. Anyway, your baby is gorgeous!! Think of it this way- he might get cold at night so you can buy him all sorts of FANTASTIC GoFetch jammies!!!! |

he's still just adorable !! I think we've all been there with the bad groomer thing but he really looks cute. The suggestion to do it your own self is a good one if he's so scared....poor baby - do you think a groomer was too rough or he just doesn't like it period ? Was he scared the other times ?....cause if not - then it was THIS groomer who got him scared....and that is not good at all. I do my own girls after having a bad experience a few years ago ...they don't look as good as a pro would have them look ....but at least I dont have to leave them with strangers not knowing what's happening. |
Groomers some times a groomer and a dog/puppy don't get along. I don't believe a dog needs to be sedated to be groomed. I have had two very wonderful groomers in the past and on some dogs it just take time a patience. I had tried to groom my dogs myself but just can't get the hang of it. Maybe you know of someone else that has their dogs groomed elsewhere and you can try them. I will say a young puppy sometimes gets upset the first few time groomed. My Zoey was sick for two day's afterwards her first time. I told this to my groomer and she made sure she took special care of her the next time. and she did just great the 2nd time around.:animal36 |
I think with that ADORABLE expression on Lucky's face no haircut can take that away! What a doll. You seemed to have been very good at brushing him, from the before picture, so you will probably be super good at learning to trim him yourself. With a face like that, it can cover a multitude of short haircuts. Bless his little heart, he looks soooo sweet. |

ps....When my Chanel had a really BAD groom - I didn't stop laughing for a week - everytime I looked at her all I could think of was that she was 'Sampson the Lion's distant cousin that no one talked about She had all this long head and face hair and short short body hair..... When she had that cut - she thought she was ALL that and a bag of chips - she had no clue she looked hilarious :D ...when I laughed - she would puff out her chest like she really WAS all that -- (and I laughed ALOT that first week getting used to it) I bet he loves his new 'do' now that it's over - and on the upside for you - you don't have to brush him everyday right ??? |

There is no way anybody could make that precious baby look bad. He is just adorable. You know, I think often times we all are more particular about the way our babies hair is cut than we we are our own. True? Bernie and Baxter are scared to death of the clippers, so . I never have taken them to a groomer. I hear too many bad experiences from other unsatisfied mommies just like you. Every time I brush Bernie and Baxter, I pull out the scissors and trim this and that....then I'll see something I don't like when they walk by and snip it! Maybe oneday it will come to needing a groomer, but right now. NO WAY! You can do it! Try it next time. |

Well, first off, I want to say, he is adorable either way! I know you're upset - I would be too. I groom my Zoe and I would recommend that for now at least. That way, you can get him used to it and then if you need to take him in the future, it won't be as difficult. You won't need to trim him right now so all you'll need to really worry about is bathing and brushing for awhile and hopefully you will make him more comfortable and you might decide you like doing it and if not, it will give you time to find a better groomer. Sorry this happened to you.....:( |
