 This is all good to know. I live in Seattle and it's very cool here. My yorkie loves the walks so far. I take him to the beach too and we walk along the shore. It's kinda nice! Thanks for the kind words about my mom - helps a lot to know that people care :) |
I take the girls to the a park near our house. That is a few blocks away. |
i take rosie for a 10 min walk in the morning then for 30 mins in the evening were i walk her there is lots of grass for her to run around on, when she gets home she goes to sleep for about 2 hours its so funny. so sorry to here about your mum, i lost my dad last october and we were very close i still feel the pain of the loss a great deal wendy and rosie :rose: :yorkiesar |
I'm still working on taking walks with Olivia. She's been really stubborn this week and either puts the breaks on and refuses to move or sits down in every lawn to sniff. Yesterday I felt like I was walking a beagle, becuase Olivia couldn't move an inch without finding a new scent that was the most exciting thing ever. So, lately we've only been going for short "carries" on our street! |
we walk bentley about a mile a day! |
Oops... double post |
1 Attachment(s) ;) "We" walk about 4 miles a day and "we" will be hiking about the same amount a couple times next month. see photo She gets to walk/run the last couple of blocks. |
we usually take nugget on a mile to a mile and a half walk....we stop half way so he can rest and always bring water for him...he always does great! his favorite thing to do is chase joggers lol |
Lots of walkers here. Or is it "walkies"??? Does anyone else remember that british dog trainer who always said "walkies!"? |
It depends on the weather for us.....when it is hot how it has been we usually dont go on one except for maybe one at night after dinner we walk a few blocks into town (6 blocks to and then back) but we take breaks and that.....usually I can tell if she is getting tired and needs a "lift" in the winter we walk several times a day but shorter......Gidget is quite the trooper but then again my son likes to sit and watch the cars go by and that so we get breaks in. But I would recomend to wait till your pup had all their shots.....I didnt even think about that till my mom brought that up to me...better to be safe then sorry. |
Well, we bought two lines of rope that are 100 feet long each and fasten them to Gracie and Sampson and take them out in the yard, 3 acres, and let them go nuts. We do live in a developement so we really have to watch that they don't go in the street. We could see that they really wanted to run and be loose, so we came up with this idea. It works great - they get to run and they are safe. |

I think if you're going at his pace and you're picking him up and carrying him when he seems tired, you're doing it right. When you get home and he still has as much energy as he did when you left, you'll know he can take more. I have two 16-week old puppies now and I've been relying on them to play and exercise each other. With the beautiful summer weather, they're at it most of the day. They have amazing muscle tone. They feel like a wild animal in my hands. What I will do when the rain starts again, I'm not sure. The adults usually get 2-3 exercise times during the day when they chase around in the yard. I want to extend my condolences on the loss of your mother. It can be tough, but I can't think of a better companion for grieving than a Yorkie pup. CJ |
I take Bruce for a very short walk around our development to potty in the morning before he goes to daycare, this is only about 10 minutes. The he runs around all day at daycare. At night he usually naps for a while after daycare and then I tkae him on a longer walk of 45minutes to an hour depending on his energy level. We then take a short walk right before bed. Saturdays and Sundays he gets all his short walks but we usually go to the off leash park for 2 hours or so. |
Walks Sydney goes on a 15 block walk every day. I don't know what that is in miles. But she loves it. She usually runs full speed for most of it...and if she tires out toward the end she will walk beside me. |
thanks for the info, I am going to start taking Starsky for walks since it is starting to cool down. |
