Maximus is onthe verge of eviction....... from the bedroom that is...... he has slept with my bf and I for 2 months now and since that day has refused to let us touch...ALAS..he sleeps in the middle of us SPREAD WAY OUT the minte an arm goes around me....and if I get a kiss he has to be in on it...so no love life...lol but yesterday my bf went to put his arm around me and Maximus just bit him squarely in the face...and then he continued to watch guard..and my bf has had it.....he said that maximus has to start sleeping in his own bed now and that he is spoiled because of me :( .....thing is Maximus knows how to jumps on the bed and so I can't leave his bed in the room because he will just jump up.....so do I leave him gated in the living room with his bed, crate and toys??? I feel kinda bad to have him sleep by himself and I think he will just bark all night...I considered sleeping in the living room with him also...but that will only bring more arguments...any suggestions??? |
This is one of the main reason I crate trained Brad. From day one we actually had him sleeping in the bathroom. Now that Brad and I are on our own he sleeps in his crate most nights. Sometimes I'll let it slide, but he knows the routine just in case. ;) ;) |
Hindsight is a b**ch..huh....lol, I never crated Maximus, he was just gated and did sooo well on potty training that I never saw the need and now it is coming back to bit me in the butt....do you think 6 months is too late??? |
I use a playpen when I want the dogs confined for any reason and they are used to it but they usually are allowed in the bed before we sleep. :) |
Maybe you could start out slow and put him in his own bed in your room for a little while. When he jumps on the bed, put him back in his own bed. You might not get any sleep for a while, though. Then, gradually move him out of your room. I think its sad to not only make him sleep in his own bed, but not let him be around you at all while he sleeps. Making such a drastic change in his life will probably upset him and you'll have more behavioral problems. Brody has gradually been sleeping somewhere besides my bed, but it was his own choice. I think I moved too much at night. Then I put his bed in my room and he LOVES it. He'll sleep there all night instead of my bed. He still jumps up sometimes in the middle of the night (usually around 5 or 6 am), but he is mostly on the ground. When my boyfriend spends the night, Brody will sleep right on top of me. But then he'll decide that he is too tired to be protective and he'll go sleep somewhere else. I definitely would move slowly and try not to cause any major crisises in your puppy's life. |
Our dog sleeps in the guest bedroom in his crate with the door shut. Some day he might be allowed to sleep on the guest bed, but never in ours. I would suggest something like this. Do you have a spare room with a bed? if you gate him out of the room and he can see the two of you in bed together i think he will get very upset. You can try crate training but i figure you'll will have at least a couple weeks of sleepless nights. |
Why not have him sleep in his crate for a few nights. See what happens. If he starts whimpering or barking, your BF might feel bad for him..hehe..tug on the heart strings. I hope your bf wasn't too hurt, I don't know what to tell you sweety, that totally sucks. I feel for you. Maybe if you have Maximus sleep on your side of the bed instead of in the middle. That's what I do with Coco, when a friend or someone sleeps over. She cuddles with me by the edge. |
Brad didn't use the crate at all until he was 14 months (our new home) He took to it very well, but it may have been because in the next room over was another yorkie who loved his crate. I think Brad's roommate talked him through the process. |
Stewie has slept in bed w/ me since day 2. I can't sleep when he's NOT in bed w/ me. I kick him out when I am, um having my love life and let him back later. He has never bit though, so I am not sure how I would approach this. |

Hmmm one day this may be a problem for Bruce and I...Actually probably not, because I think Bruce will chase off any guy before he gets to the sleeping in my bed stage... I think Maximus would be fine in the living room if you could just ignore him when he first starts barking (if he does)...I know it is hard to do, but I am sure you can do it! |

I put Coco's crate on my nightstand for a long time. That way she can see me but is in her own crate. Maybe he'll get the picture and be less possessive. He will have to learn to deal with your b/f being ALL over you and not him. :D |
Yea I didn't know when I got a lil dog we'd be havin threesomes...lol  |
