Retractable leash I recently got Pita the kind of leash that retracts with the button to make it stop at certain length.. I am so glad I got that! It gives her so much more mobility cuz she's not always tripping over the leash, especially when she's chasing lizards or we are out playing with the kittens. It is definitely worth the 10.00 I paid for it. Although we still use the pink one with crystals on it for special occasions! |
I have a retractable leash for Chachi and like it real well also. He wouldn't be aqble to walk with a regular leash he pulls so much so I just give him alittle more leash. |
I am glad to hear the good report as I have been wondering about purchasing one of those myself. We recently were on a trip and the regular leash was a major pain. |
MY hubby uses one on some of our dogs. I rather like them. |
I was hesitant because i couldn't find a small one and then i just didn't know if it would be worth it, but it is and I found the small one at Wal mart. It makes all the difference with Pita. |
I had one in my hand yesterday at Target and I wasn't sure so I put it down. Thanks for posting this, seeing such positive comments has convinced me to buy it and give it a try! |
I love em... I was always worried abt the short leash,,with him pulling with all the trachea problems,,, so the retractable on it great,,there is no pulling on his throat. He HATED the harness,,took 3 people to get it on,, I couldnt deal with that all the time. :thumbdown |
I have a retractable leash and i wouldn't ever go back to a regular one. Charlie is such a hard puller, and i worried about him. |
Tatum's real good on a short leash and harness so we've never tried the retractable one. Our obedience class teacher does not recommend retractable leashes at all because it doesn't teach the dog to stay close by your side. Of course what she was trying to teach was the "controlled walking". I suppose if you don't mind your dog getting farther away, the retractable would work really well. The only time Tatum is on a leash though is when we go to the ballpark or vet or something and at those times I want her to be in my total control. There have been times I've had to literally pull her through the air (leash attached to body harness, of course) to avoid a fast approaching dog. You wouldn't have nearly that much control with the retractable. Just a thought in case you hadn't considered that aspect.... |
i have one too and i love it, i found that target had the best price.... i think my mom payed something like 10 for a 16 foot length......... they have ones that go up to 26 feet!!!!! the only thing i didnt like abotu it was teh warning about decapitation of body parts  (lol.... yes i am serious...... this was the warning they had on the package) |
Mine doesn't retract fast enough to remove any body parts! My obedience trainer didn't reccomend it either but we use it when she is out sniffing for lizards or playing outside cuz we don't have a fence and she can have a little more freedom. |
Yes, if we had to use a leash walking Tatum around the yard, the retractable would be a good idea but not for the kinds of places we go with her where other animals or harmful people might be. I'm not saying it's a bad idea in every situation, just keep in mind that it's not the quickest way to regain control of them in an emergency situation. |
lol..... it showed a picture of the cord part getting cought on someones finger (i can only assume the dog is supposed to take off with enough force to decapitate a body part????).... maybe if he had jet propulsion out his rear end :p |
I bought a retractable leash for Maximus and I have gone back to a "old school" leash for the time being~while he is in puppy kindergarten so I can teach him not to pull...or at least a little less..but I liked the retractable sooooo much better then the one he has now :( .....he is getting better though and hopefully I will be taking out that good old retractable one some time soon...btw I bought mine at Petsmart (xs) and I think it was like 14.00 for 5-6 ft.. |
I also have a retractable leash for Mollie, but have a problem. It seems that the leash is to strong and pulls her. Does anyone else have this problem? Now when I have her in the yard, I lock the leash out so she has some freedom but she is always tangled in the rope. Maybe she isn't big enough for it yet, I don't know, any thoughts? |
