I have never had a problem really with Pita pulling, she just stops when she feels pressure on the leash! She's so laid back!

The leash is very thin on mine but the piece that you hold onto is heavy...is that the part you are talking about?? I porbably wouldn't leave Maximus out with a retarctable leash or maybe any leash because I would worry that he could strangle himself...maybe just use the leash when you are walking with her or a regular one with the harness when you can supervise her outside???

I could see how if she weighed less it would pull her back Lynette. It kind of defeats the purpose of the retractable leash if you have to keep it locked. Sounds like she's too small for it. If you want some way to give her more freedom you could hook up a short "clothesline" and attach a short leash to it, do you get what I'm saying? we did this with my grandchihuahua and it worked well, of course we didn't leave him alone on it, but it allowed us to do what we had to do in the yard and he still got to run around and sniff.

It seems like the resistance on the leash is to strong. I have the right size for her, maybe she is just too little for it. I leave the leash extended about 6 feet and let her roam so she can find her spot to go potty. I'm not concerned about her getting strangled, since I am always out there with her. I just would like the use the leash how it was intended.

How big is she?? Maximus was using the xs retractable leash at 4lbs without a problem..he is 5 1/2 lbs now...maybe she is still too light??

2 weeks ago, she was 3 lbs. The leashes I found only give an up to weight. They don't day anything about a minimium weight, where did you find one to say XS?

I like the retractable leash for Dudley. We have issues over who gets to lead, so when we start out I lock it up so he has to stay right beside me. After he has walked beside or behind me for 3/4 of the distance I let him run it out to the 16 ft distance. I have trained him to stop and not move when a car is approaching so that I can catch up to him and make sure he is safe. I love it. Whenever I say wait he stops dead in his tracks and looks around for the car.

I also love the retractable leash! I don't really walk Brutus since he does his business indoors but he loves to run around on the grass and this gives him freedom.

my yorkie was attacked on a retractable leash by a pitbull running at large .i could have saved her if it had been a normal one because i could have got her in my arms much quicker. dont worry she,s fine but think twice before you buy.

I have a retractable for Deegan and I love it! It gives him freedom and I don't have to try and keep up with him.
But I do have to send a warning out. I did something really stupid with it.
One morning I was walking Deegan with it like normal, and we were on the main street in our town. As I was walking he was pulling, so I didn't have it locked into place because the only time I lock is when I'm trying to keep him close to me. Anyway, were walking along and I tripped on part of the sidewalk that was cracked and lifted. When I tripped and stumbbled, I accidentaly let go of the handle and it went flying and bopped Deegan in the head. It must have hurt him, but startled him even more. So much that he went running because he must have thought that something was trying to attack him. He was running in circles anf yelping, and then the scary part - he ran under a parked truck that was on the side of the road and headed towards the road.
There was so much morning traffic I was petrified! I am trying my damdest to catch him before he runs into traffic! My heart was going a mile a minute!
I thought he was going to be a gonner! Luckily, while he was still panicking, he head back towards me, and I scooped him up and held and cuddled him and brought him home.

I felt terrible!!! People on the road must have thought that I was the town crazy person because Deegan is so small and was running so fast they probably didn't realize what I was chasing.

It sounds funny now, but I seriously thought he was a goner! So what ever you do - always have a good grip on the handle. Because if it hits them they get so scared. I felt awful all day, and my heart was still beating fast a couple hours later!

I have the retractable lease also, and I like it. The only concern I have is when it gets wrapped around her neck or legs, etc. If she starts to run the chord is so thin it might hurt her.
