At home grooming?
 
I'm about ready to pick up my new pup and was curious how easy or difficult it will be to groom her myself. I want to keep her hair short. Do I just use regular hair clippers? Any tips/suggestions? Paying someone to do it isn't a likly scenario... thanks!

how exciting. If you go to the grooming forum on YT you will find several stickies - including some video and lots of information on tools you need an how to do it.

Can;t wait to see pictures

Ok been looking for the sticky for the grooming and I cant seem to find it...?? I would also like to groom at home and am always looking for any great info or a guide on how to do it...:)

The DVD I use is one made by SueNCricket 2 and I find it an excellent video. She shows you how to groom your Yorkie as well as bathing, ear cleaning, nails, anal glands etc. Her website is
Crown Royal Yorkshire Terriers.

I highly recommend this Dvd.

Seeing Marci's videos of her grooming Layla got us motivated and thinking we could it as well!
Then we bought Sue's DVD, which is excellent!
It's really because of these two that we started grooming Wrigley and Camden at home! We are FAR from perfect, but we figure in a year or so they will look great again! :rolleyes:
We bought everything that Sue's video recommended from Petedge!

Duhhh, I just learned something here. I never noticed the section on grooming and the tutorials. Great! I also bought the DVD, and will do Tiki's grooming, now that she has had one "professional" one.

Those were great!...How loud are your clippers?...My husband just bought me a whal pet clippers and they are loud....well, to me they are....I tried grooming teddy but he wouldnt sit still so i stopped...didnt want to scar him....any suggestions?...I love they way layla jumps to get groomed...verry cute!:animal-pa

it is ALL about the treats... she only wants up there because she gets them :p I use Andis and they are relatively quiet.. the small Whal clipper is actually noiser than the big clipper I use. Just go slow... put the clippers on and give him treats... turn them off and run them through his hair and give him treats... then slowly start putting them in his hair while they are on.. it will take a bit but he'll get used to it.

Awesome- thanks! I watched all of the videos and they were helpful. I kind of feel anxious about cutting her hair because of all of the sensitive areas I'd have to work around!

aww.. just go slow... i still get nervous around her back legs with that piece of skin but i just go VERY slow :)
