Has anyone here had their beloved pet indiv. cremated? I've notice (after working for at different vet hospitals a good part of my life) that the individual cremations go with the "simple cremations" on the same truck... Perhaps that pretty little box is not the precious remains of your baby.... The truck will often take 10-20 frozen bodies at a time....I never asked, but I would imagine that a large bonfire takes place, depending on how many "pickups" there are on their rounds.. this is not to discredit the "disposal" company...they provide a service, but how do we "know" if our ashes we get back are "ours"..... I don't think they are regulated as a business :confused::confused:, but I'm not sure..... I bury my pets in the backyard, but I know some live in apartments and places where it is not allowed by law......:rbyorkie: roxanne |

OMG how terrible. We buried our rottie in the backyard when he passed. I wouldn't have it any other way. |

I prefer the individual cremation. I received the ashes in a little pine box with a lock and my pets name ingraved on it, but I have order a special customized urn for the ashes. |

I have my cat's, Einstein Friday Fitzgerald (a girl), ashes in a little box at home. I guess a part of me wondered if these were actually her ashes. All I could ever do is hope they were. |

I used to work in a vet clinic and saw several clients choose to have their beloved pets cremated. The remains were returned in a beautiful box and from what I saw, were always handled with the upmost respect. I think it is horrible to even suggest that you might not end up with your pets ashes. In a time of mourning, that should be the farthest thing from your mind. In my opinion, having your pet cremated is a wonderful tribute and should be thought of as no less. |

I had my sheltie, Mickey cremated when he passed and his ashes placed in a nice little urn. It never really crossed my mind that those ashes that I got back wouldn't be his, but I guess it could happen. After all, my when my boyfriends parents dog died, they wanted to have her cremated too, but after a week of not hearing back from the vets office to come and pick up the dogs ashes his mom called to inquire. Turns out there was a huge mistake - they didn't cremated the dog - just sent her to the doggy dump or did what they usually do with dogs that aren't being taken home to bury or have their ashes burned!!! My bf's mom was so distraught & with reason!! I couldn't imagine that happening to my pet! |

I left my little Heidi's body at the vets..It was the worst feeling..leaving her there..I wish now that I had asked for an individual cremation..It is my biggest regret..:( I was so distraught at the time I don't think I was thinking straight..I also live in military accomodation so a buriel in the garden was not an option unfortunately. I have some of her things and lots of photo's in frames around the house. |

My brother's dog died in January-we live in Ohio. The ground was too hard when they tried to bury him-he really tried too- just not strong enough I geuss. So- my Mom found a guy in the yellow pages- he's local. He picked up the dog and my Mom and brother followed in a car. They met at the guy's place of business- and when the business was "being done" they were at a local diner having coffee with the guy. After the coffee--they went back and they got the ashes to take home. Growing up we had 3 dogs and they all died in the warmer months. I had never thought of what to do in the winter. Some people leave their pet at the vet. What does the vet do? |

We buried Scooter in our backyard near another pet that died in 87. We live near a small mountain and the digging wasn't easy but I wouldn't have any other way. |

I had a stray dog from our neighborhood that was killed, cremated. There is a pet crematory in the next town. I was offered to have individual cremation versus cremating several dogs at a time. He said the difference is this: If several dogs are cremated together, they are put in individual 'holders', but placed in the furnace thing ( forgive me for not knowing the correct terms) at the same time. They are not all jumbled up together (at his place). Individually, of course, means your pet is the only one in the furnace. |

I think the one that ashes are paid for to be returned - are kept seperate! and handeled each by them selves- that is why it cost more! IMO! I have never had one cremated, but my sister has, and a very good friend. each with there name on it, ect! I think most companies would handle this with the respect it deserves- word would get out- one way or another- and would not be good for their company! |
