Hi, everyone! I'm a new member! :D Hi, I'm Julie. I have a 9 month old Yorkie named Nikki. She's precious, fun, tons of company to me. She's sooo smart! She has a beautiful coat, very thick long hair, and HUGE ears! It's so funny because she looks like a bunny when she runs. One problem: Her breath. It's horrible. She hasn't lost ANY of her baby teeth, so she has a mouth full! The vet said that's the reason her breath is so bad. Her baby teeth have rotten roots. But if they are rotten, what's holding them in? Why hasn't she lost any if there's no root? Thanks for all your help!! :) |
Are you going to get her spayed? If so, that would be a good time to have them extracted...Being as she has to be under anesthesia for both procedures, why not do it together ! And of course, Welcome to yorkie talk ... We all love our babies here ! :yorkietal |
Welcome! So glad you found us. I agree. That would be the perfect time to get rid of those baby teeth! |
Welcome to YT! Could you give Nikki something to chew on to help her loosen them so they may (at least some) come out on their own? Abby lost all of her baby teeth except her canines and I'm praying they fall out before she's spayed. Can't wait to see pictures of Nikki :) |
Hi and welcome to YT. Mine have horrible breath cause they chew on bully sticks. Good luck with your little one...ask the vet if she needs to have the surgically removed. Hot Rod had 14 removed at the time of his neutering. He was 6 1/2 mos old. |
Welcome To Yt . Oh I Remember That Change From Yummy Puppy Breath To Omg What Died In Her Mouth ;) Water Bottle Caps And Bully Sticks Knocked Out All But One. No More Stinky Breath Now:d |

Welcome to YT. |
I tried to get a profile shot of her loaded, but my file was too large or course, and when I tried to resize, my photobucket encounters some sort of problem and shuts down IE immediately. I'll get an album going soon, though. Thanks for your reply!! |
He recommended having them all extracted, to the tune of $900.00 (PetSmart, the rulers of how to get money out of you fast). I have given her all sorts of toys to chew on, rawhide sticks (I hold it for her so she wont swallow) bottle caps, everything safe, but so far, she hasnt lost any. I was just trying to avoid a huge vet bill. |

Thanks very much. I will continue to wait and see what happens. I'll try the drops, too! |
I'm trying to get photos uploaded, but I'm having NO luck at all. I upload all the time to other sites, but for some reason I can't here. All my files are too large. I use photo bucket do my editing, but it keeps shutting IE down. :( |

Hello and welcome :) |
welcome :) |
Welcome to YT! Like others said, work on trying to get those baby teeth to fall out on their own but if they don't, you'll definitely want to do as your vet says and have them extracted (best time is when she gets spayed if you plan to do that). If you don't have those extra teeth extracted it could cause major dental problems down the road. If i were you, I'd call other vets to see how much they charge. Mia only had to have 2 teeth extracted when she had her spay and instead of charging by the tooth, they charged for how long it took. For two teeth it was $25. I remember that nasty breath mia had when she still extra puppy teeth. PPPEEEEE-U... man was it smelly!! |
I tried posting the URLs, but that didn't work either. Gave me an invalid error. But I'll try the new link, thanks! :) |

Hello and welcome. I have a 9 month old boy named Emilio. He had two rows of teeth, because his big teeth came in and none of his baby teeth had fallen out. When I had him neutered, the vet pulled the baby teeth. I would go that route if you are planning to have her fixed since she will already be under, if not, try a teething chew toy or you may have to have the vet pull them. |
Hello and welcome:yorkietal I have four yorkies and mine all lost there teeth on there own except for Tucker...I took him to the vet and had 7 baby teeth pulled and it was $137.00...but I live in a small city of about 45,000 people..Good Luck.. You will find everyone here to be very helpful! Jackson:aimeeyork Gracie:aimeeyork Tucker:aimeeyork Rosey:aimeeyork |
Wish I could use your vet! PetSmart quoted us $900 to do the job. I know a vet that is much cheaper, but his place is just unsanitary, that's why I changed to PetSmart in the first place. But I know he's a good vet. Just a nasty looking place. I couldnt bring myself to continue there. We have 2 black labs too, and he's fine to take them to, but small dogs are different. |
