| ![]() I have a 3 month old Yorkie puppy who leaves little black fur on me after I hold him. I was just wondering if this shedding is just a puppy phase or do yorkies shed a little bit? Thank you very much!

| ![]() Jake has never shed even with Demodex. Jenny has shed a tiny tiny bit, but thats because she is lacking nutrients due to her digestive problems, but I rarely notice anything on her brush. Did you ask the breeder?

| ![]() Mine have never shed. One of the many reasons I love the breed.

| ![]() Yorkies do not shed like other dogs do because they have hair instead of fur, just like us. Likewise, their hair falls out like ours does. So in a sense, YES, Yorkies "shed" but they don't actually lose their full coat like other dogs do. Both Franklin and Maggie's hair comes out during brushing and bath time. Sometimes they leave little hairs on my clothes and bed. Your puppy is likely just starting to lose it's puppy coat.

| ![]() 2 weeks ago, my 2 yorkies were sick, they had high fevers and vomitting and pooing alot! So I took them to the vet, and while we were waiting, I noticed that I had alot of hair on my clothes, from holding them. I thought that was the weirdest thing, cuz they have never done that before. My dogs are not puppies anymore, and they are a non shedding breed, so I asked the vet while he was examining them. He told me that with them being so sick they can lose quite a bit of their coat. He also told me that if they are really stressed out, that can be another factor of them shedding. Now that they are back to normal and not sick, I can hold them without having black hair all over me.

| ![]() The only time I notice hair coming off of mine is when I brush them. I love the fact that they don't shed! I hate having to pick hair off my clothes whenever I leave the house.

| ![]() Yorkies don't shed because they don't have an undercoat to shed. However, they can lose a few hairs from brushing or other factors. I've seen a hair or two on my clothes from my puppy who is 15weeks but I figure its probably leftover hair from when I brush him. In general though, excessive hair loss is not normal for the breed and they aren't supposed to shed. Last edited by CharBar; 07-28-2008 at 03:59 PM. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() Do you bush her? Also, a low thyroid can cause hair loss, if this is happening every time you hold him, I would be concerned.
