Our rescue died today.......... Carly and Abbey came to us (my mom and I) to be fostered due to the owners not wanting them anymore. They were 12 and 13 years old and Carly had been on seizure meds for 9 years. They had been together always. My mom and I are nurses and we nursed this poor baby all we possibly could. The vet said with the stress of the move she just couldn't handle all of the change. We syringed her fluids and watered down food (baby food) and karo water. She just couldn't do it anymore and died peacefully in her sleep. Needless to say-we are heartbroken at the least-but very upset that they were given up when they needed their owners the most. I LOVE being a part of a rescue organization-but at the same time it can be pretty heartwrenching. Just want everyone to hug their babies and promise to be there for them ALWAYS!! And love a rescue, any rescue-they work so hard-yet sometimes the work takes its toll emotionally. :( Thanks for listening!! |
I admire you for being involved in the rescue mission. I am sad to hear of your loss and will be thinking of you. Hugs. |
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. God bless you for doing what you do, for yorkies and for people. |
Oh I am so sorry! I have the utmost respect for what you do! We have adopted two of our babies that were in need and that was a great feeling, but I really admire the work that rescue groups do! I'm sure it's very happy and fulfilling, but like you said heartwrenching at times too! Prayers to all! |
So sorry for your loss.... how sad.... and I know how rewarding rescue can be but also how draining and emotional... I also do rescue....and will certainly give my adopted pups hugs tonight.... and special ones to my current foster.... |
I am very sorry for your loss. I agree that it is very sad when older dogs are given up by their owners. I have so much respect for you and your mother for helping these animals. It must be very difficult and heartbreaking, but you gave her love in the last days of her life, and that is priceless. I know it hurts, but you are doing so much good by helping these animals! |
What you did was so awesome if only more people had the heart you have. You are very special to have made that babies last days on earth special. I can't imagine what would have happen if you had not been there for them both. |
I'm so sorry:( You did everything right and God bless you for taking them in |
I am so sorry for your loss . |
I am so sorry for your loss,:( I wanted to tell you I admire and think you and your mom are the greatest people in the world. You are little angels here on earth for the furbabies, God bless you for all you have done, it has to be one of the hardest and most rewarding jobs..Thank you! |
A gentle hand can comfort even a stranger ! Yours was so much more special.... |
Ok-now i am crying again :(! Thanks for the support! My okyr family has been very supportive as well. Everyone is just bummed. There for a day or two we thought she may pull through this. But God had other plans for her. Her "sister" Abbey is doing well actually. Just very "on" my mom, which is expected. |
I'm sorry to hear that. :( You did everything you possibly could for her. What a true blessing you are to those dogs in need. :) How is Abbey taking the loss of Carly? That must be so sad to see also. :( |
1 Attachment(s) She is the darker one on the right-Abbey is on the left. |
That is so sad. I admire you for the work that you do. It takes a special person to be able to do it. My heart would be broken every day. Hugs to you for trying so hard with Carly. |
Really really sad to hear this news..but you did your best in a bad situation for these dogs.. for that I thank you.. anne |
I am very sorry for your loss. I am sure she knew she was loved. |
I'm so sorry for the loss of your little one. Prayers to you and your Mother. Pray little Abbey will get along alright as time goes by. God bless you both for the work you do.:animal-pa |
So sorry. You did what you could for her and she knows it and went in peace. I too am with a rescue although I do not foster now...but I also rescued one of my girls..Gabby. Thanks for doing what you're doing. |
I wish more people would foster or adopt these wonderful seniors. Of all the fosters I had, it was the seniors that were the easiest to care for. They just aren't pushy or needy. They are just happy to be loved. I'm so sorry you little one passed. It's always so heartbreaking. |
I am so sad for you and for Carly. Just can't stop the tears from coming. The only good thing is that Carly was loved at the end of her life by you. Hugs to you. Carly now has her angel wings. Joanne |
I'm so very sorry for your loss! |
So sorry to hear of your loss. At least she was somewhere she knew she was wanted and love, even if only for a short time. Bless you for saving these little ones. |
This is very heartwrenching. I'm sure they felt/feel your love. God bless you and your mom for being so wonderful. My babies have given me sooo much. I promise to be there for them FOREVER. |
What a heartbreaking story. I adopted my Lady nine years ago at age four. I just can't understand someone giving up senior pets. After all those years of devoted companionship, we owe our elderly pets love and care right up until the very end. |
Sleep sweet Carly :rbyorkie: OKYR was proud to have saved you & Andi & Ronda were proud to have loved you to the end... Thank you Andi & Ronda for all the love & compassion you showed Carly all the way to her last breath, you are her angels |
God bless you for taking them in when they needed love and care so much. It breaks my heart to hear of owners getting rid of old dogs. I wouldn't have wanted my previous Yorkie (who lived to be 13) to "feel abandoned" when she needed me most. I sleep well knowing I did all I could have done for her when she was reaching her last days. :rbyorkie: |
I'm so sorry for your loss. God bless you for the rescue work you do. Hugs and prayers. |
So very sorry for your loss. Be at peace to know that she was well taken care of and loved when she was most vulnerable. Hugs. |
You did everything you could. The rest wasn't in your hands. I don't know how someone can give them up in their old age, either. They are sooooo attached to us. I'm sorry you lost her. I know you're heartbroken. When you care for them that way when they're sick you really form a bond. |
