I walk mine in the morning and evening when its cooler. Other than that they are in and out to do their business and come right back in so they arent used to hot weather |
We save our walks for the evenings. |
My Lucy is 4 months old and 4.7lbs. She loves it outside. We live in Missouri and it's been pretty hot and humid lately. We have a lab and a cat outside and we let Lucy out to play with them. We'll go open the door to the garage every 20 minutes or so to see if she's ready to come in. Sometimes she'll be laying on the step ready to come, other times, she'll be laying on the step and runs over to the lab when we open the door. One day she didn't want to come in at all! I had to make her come in to get drinks. She just loves it out there. I think she thinks she's a big dog when she's out there with our lab! I think it's cute. I just wonder what she'll do when it's cold! |
Roxie loves to go walking and I've worried about her getting too hot also. If it's upper 80's and really humid forget it. I worry about her little body being so close to the hot black top on the bike path. But somedays the big dogs will be in the shade in the garage and she'll go plop down in the sun on the black topped driveway. I won't let her stay there long even if she thinks it feels good. When I do walk her I take water and she won't drink the whole time, she doesn't want any. I've even picked her up and carried her some worrying if she's too hot but she always wants back down. She loves her walks I guess! So I'm her moderator weather she likes it or not! |
Ally and Sophie walk with me early in the mornings just as the sun is coming up. Then we also walk about 8PM when the sun is going out. But, when it is hot during the day, no walking - except to go potty for about 5 minutes. In the Memphis area we get some really hot summer days. like today it is 103. Ally is a 4LB Yorkie and Sophie a 13LB Bichon. When they get home they drink plenty of cold water and feel fine. |
We rarely go on walks as the girls get plenty of exercise indoors. Mine are also pee pad trained, so they only go outside a couple times a week to run around the back yard!!!! For those that have very hot temps and/or panting babies, Jenni at Sassypup sells a cooling vest. It has a special substance inside it - you soak it in cold water, drain the excess and then put it on them. It keeps their body cool for a couple hours. You might want to try one!!!! |
Scooter plays outside no matter how hot it is. He uses his pet door and is in and out all day long. We live in Tampa and it's hot, hot, hot but he doesn't seem to mind it. When he's had enough he will come in and grab a few zzzz's in the a/c then he's raring to go again. |
