It Works !!!!! TJ (8 months old) is one of those wonderful little Yorkies that like to run and jump up on the couch.. so he can bark at anything that passes the window. He is a very determined little guy. We aren't talking a little barking.. we are talking a 5 minute chorus at the top of his lungs. Nothing has worked. I watch The Dog Whisperer and I have tried his suggestions. But by the time I can get up and get to him.. he is on a roll. My husband works nights and sleeps during the day. I have resorted to leaving the blinds closed so he won't bark.. but I like to be able to see outside. I read about using a water bottle and spraying them when they bark like that. I got one from the store this morning... covered the couch with a thick blanket and set on the other couch. A little earlier, some one walked by and he ran to the window and barked. I tried squirting him with water and telling him.. "No Bark". He looked like I had taken away his last toy... but he quit barking and got down. A few minutes ago he jumped up and started barking again. I picked up the bottle, and he quit barking and got down. He came over to me and gave me a doggie kiss and layed down beside me. I couldn't believe it! I didn't even spray him, I just picked it up and It worked!!!! I don't remember where I read this.. but it was just a couple of days ago.. So I want to say Thank you.. for the peace and quiet. It is wonderful. |
yes, mine dont have to actually get sprayed either. I just show them the bottle. It is a miracle! You would think that thing is full of battery acid the way they act! |
Glad it works for you it did for me also. Now all I have to do is say no barking |
My grandma does that with her cat and it works like a dream. I had totally forgotten about that, now reading your post has inspired me to give it a try Thanks! :) |
I was kinda skeptical about it working to start. TJ loves water.. he runs through the sprinkler when I am watering the yard.. so I did not think it would work well.. but it does. I even used the can with the coins.. that worked for TJ but it scared poor little Dexter so bad.. he would go and hide in the bedroom. And I couldn't have that. If you even pick up the can.. Dexter heads to the bedroom. So I am so thankful for the water bottle. Yea! |
So you mean to tell me that your grandma's cat stop barking once they showed him the bottle???LOL ..I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist... I've heard someone using an empty bottle of water with little rocks inside, I thought about doing it, but all I want is for Max not to make noise, if I use the bottle with rocks, it will defeat the purpose. The spray water sounds much better option, I'll sure use it. |

I am so happy for you that the spray bottle worked. It didn't work for me. I spayed Buddy until he was dripping and he was still barking! Coin's in a can is my miracle to silence;) |
YAY! TJ :good job::number1ri Now keep up the good work for Mommy!;) |

I love this idea! |
I tried that with Pixie didn't work, tried coins in a jar didn't work. She is really getting bad I don't know what to try next. |
I have a friend who has cocker spaniels, she uses a spray bottle with a little vinegar in it. |

:lol tearsSo much for MULTI-TASKING |
Some people use water guns.:D I also know that some people did not have good results. It depends on the yorkie. Some are stronger spirited than others and it will stop them from barking without breaking their spirits. The yorkies with a more submissive personality are the one's you have to be careful not to break their spirit using these things. |

This is what happened to me too. Then he just ran when I got the sprayer, but it didn't stop the barking. :D Try the coins if the sprayer doesn't work. |
When we first had aggression problems with Pebbles the dog trainer suggested the vinegar and water in a bottle. She was so bad with the aggressive barking that we called her Devil Dog. The first time she was sprayed it was like an exorcism. After that first time all we needed to do was show the bottle and she would immediately stop. We don't even have to use it any longer. So glad that it works for others as well! |
Glad to hear that it worked! |
Omg I Am Having The Same Problem, I Have To Put Him Away During The Day And He Has Plenty Of Room To Play And Everything But He Still Barks And My Fiance Has To Sleep Durign The Day We Are Runnign Out Of Options Lately I Put Him On The Bed So He Sleeps Till He Gets Up For Work. I Have Tryed Everything But He Does Not Want O Stay In The Cage !!!! |
The water bottle or cans work for most dogs. I have two it didn't work for, first Teddy and them Chelsey. Neither one of then care if I spray them forever or shake a can forever. I tried the AirDuster from a distance and it worked! They hate the spirts of air! I just pick up the can now. Some times you need to be creative! |

I emptied an old spray bottle, filled it with water, painted it pretty and wrote "NO NO Spray" on it. :xfingers: I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet today, unusual as it is, but I will let everyone know if it works! |
What is an AirBuster? Also, how much vinegar do you put in a bottle of water? I wouldn't want to burn her eyes. I was told to put vinegar in a spray bottle & use it where a dog is chewing instead of Bitter Apple. A spray bottle or the can with coins do not mean anything for MacKensie! She puts her head up to get sprayed even more and the coin can means nothing. |

Joey is so good at looking at me, with those eyes, as if to say "why the heck did you do that?" He can make me never repeat an action by that look, if I could just do the same thing. |

The spray bottle has really worked for us here. :) That is how we taught Piccolo, when she was a puppy, to leave things alone on the coffee table, especially food. Now she totally ignores anything on that table. Sometimes I use it outside, if she is barking at the neighbor's dog. If she sees it, she stops. |
The spray didn't work, the spray with vinegar didn't work, the can with coins didn't work, the clicker didn't work. Yelling sure doesn't work! LOL Mostly they bark at my adult sons who taught them to bark in the first place. Yeah, little bitty Yorkies barking is cute. Only thing is, my sons didn't think about how it would be when the dogs grew up or maybe they thot they would be moved out by this time. Yeah, wellllllll. They come home don't they? I have tried the cans again recently but it scares half of them to death. Maybe I will try putting some spray bottles outside the door so when whoever comes in they are already armed and I don't have to run around trying to catch the barkers. Only thing I can do is try, right? Sylvia |
Do you leave the bottle of water sit out where they can see it and behave, or do you hide it and bring it out on each occasion so that they don't become "immune" to it, for lack of a better term? |
