I am a hairstylist and always groom my babies at home, the groomers want you to leave your babies there all day usually-- I would not want to stay at the salon ALL DAY to get my hair done. :aimeeyork |
:confused: Yesterday I dropped Krissie and Ollie off at the groomer for a bath and spa treatments at 11:00 in the AM. One of the owner's help got sick and went home. They didn't call and didn't call! I called them around 1:00PM and they said they were being dryed. They were not ready until 6:00PM and they were STARVED for water. I was in tears, knowing that my babies had been without water for so long. When Ollie got into the car, he was sticking his tongue in my water bottle. I kept pouring water into my hand and letting them drink. I was totally exasperated!! I can imagine that being under the heat of a dryer only dehydrates them more! I am changing groomers! grooming ..lots of groomers use enclosed cages to dry, nothing new.. When you work in a shop where volume is high, dogs must dry fast while others are brushed, clipped etc... I always used a open 24x24..wire on all four sides and top, towel on bottom..and NEVER use anything but air.. LOW heat is okay if the cage is big enough for the dog to move when it is dry. The groomer must stay in the area and never leave the dog..you can work on another as that one dries, but you are right there with it... I have been in shops where the driers are in a totally isolated place..rows of dogs are drying and the groomers have no clue what is going on...no wonder they find them dead. PS..if you can not groom yourself..try an at home groomer who takes about 90 mins tops...and you can get your baby back home..although, many spent the day with me in the house area and went home after the owner got off work..but not penned all day..pets are not used to this and it is stressful. |
I use to groom years ago but even with my back problems that is exactly the reason I would never take one of my babies to a grooming salon. The cage dryers are horrible and so many little ones have died from them. I even turn the sprayer way down when rinsing Kayla because her little body is so tiny. |
poor doggie.. gees 100 degrees!! why wud the machine even be allowed to go that high?? thank god abbys grommer has regular cages n they put some blower thing on the side. they r big enough to even let a lab move around freely in there. thats y i make sure to stay wen she gets groomed. i dont care how long i gotta wait. im not takin chances... |
I saw that and am glad I am grroming my own. They may not look perfect but at least they are safer. |
I didn't see the show today, but yes I have heard all of the horror stories and they are just AWFUL. I always tell everyone I know that if they are taking their babies to the groomer, do NOT let them use cage dryers! :thumbdown |
That is a terrible shame. Innocent animals losing their lives over this :eek: Suzi has not gone to a groomers yet. When she does, I am going to stay right there and observe everything. Yes, i'll be the mom who can't let go of her baby. :aimeeyork |
This is precisely why I have my groomer come to my house to do all three of my dogs. How sad. I saw the segment and that was a beautiful lab. Why would anyone think 100 degrees was safe anyway? These kinds of things make me angry. |
