Worried about tomorrow :( Tomorrow morning I take Layla in for a tooth extraction and I'm worried. They called tonight to explain the procedure and donig bloodwork before the anesthesia etc. I know it's probably going to turn out fine but I'm still worried anyway. I wish my baby didn't have to go through this! |
I will say a prayer for Layla. Both of my girls had to have teeth removed when they were spayed and they did fine. And, it is good that you are having bloodwork done, too. Good luck, Layla! |
I understand how you feel. You love your baby so much, and it is worrisome to have any type of procedure done. Just like our kids, there are always worries! Your Layla is going to be fine. It will be ok ! As long as you trust your vet and know that your dog will be in good hands then this will be all worth it in the long run. :aimeeyork |
Sending prayers and good wishes for you and Layla. :) |

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. It just breaks my heart that here she is, sitting beside me with her tail wagging and wanting to play, with no idea what's going to happen tomorrow! I always feel so mean with things like this, like I'm decieving her or something even though she can't understand... haha maybe it's just late and I need to go to sleep |
Thinking Of You She will do great. I know what you mean it is so.. tough to take my babies in for any type of Vet. work. But remember this is for her health and your just being a good Mom and taking care of you baby. |

I now how you feel, last month Pixie had to go under for a cleaning due to really bad gums and plaque and she is only 2 1/2 and 4 lbs. I was a wreck, but she did great, I took her in at 8 and they called me by 10 saying she was out and fine. Make sure they call you as soon as she is out of surgery so you can relax. Pixie had to have antibiotics 3 days before and 5 after due ot her gums being so bad. She also had 5 teeth pulled .She came home at 4 that day and proceeded to grab a cow hoof and chew on it, like nothing happened. I will keep Layla in my prayers for a safe procedure. Keep us posted |
Both mine had teeth extracted during spay. They didnt even seem to notice. They ate fine. Hope Layla's proceedure goes quickly and she is home soon and all better. |
Layla is only 2 1/2 too, and I feel bad for her having teeth problems already! Luckily it's only one. They asked if I wanted a cleaning done too, but last time the vet said the rest of her teeth look fine. The back ones I've noticed are a little yellow, but just this one that's getting pulled is brown and loose. I said I wanted to see if the vet recommended a cleaning first. After she's awake again, will they keep her for the day to watch her? I guess I should have asked on the phone last night. I will be working until 5 so I want somebody to be with her! |
Oh yeah and this morning she was scratching at her food bag because she was so hungry, but I couldn't feed her. I went into the kitchen about 20 minutes later and she was standing there eating a kibble! The little bugger must have had one hidden somewhere. One kibble shouldn't matter though right? |
My vet always keep my little ones for the day . |

Sending very positive thoughts on your way . I know how you are feeling now . |
Thank you! |
Isn't it something how much We Love Our Babies? I am sure Layla will be fine. It will be over before you know it. I am just like you. It would be the end of the world if my Pebbles had to go. I freak out just to bring her for her annual check-up. I am always afraid they might find something. Thank god she is always fine. For a week before our appointment, I will feel terrible, and when the day comes, forget it. I am a nut for my baby. I also have 2 German Shepherds. So I get to feel like this for 3 dogs. I just Love All My Babies. Pebbles and I wish You and Layla good luck.:goodluck: Take care and let us know how she made out.:big_hug: |
I know it is hard see them go to the vet for what we see has bad stuff, but they won't be upset unless you are. When Duchess had her two teeth removed, I kept them for her baby book. Hugs to both of you. |
Well I took her in this morning and the vet wasn't in yet, so there was no chance to look at her teeth to decide if she needed a cleaning. On the phone yesterday the tech told me that IV would be a good option if she did get her teeth cleaned so I checked it on the checklist just in case. I also opted for the free nail trim :) We got her weight and I handed her over to the tech, and the last thing I saw was her little yorkie butt walking down the hall with her tail up high, without even a look back at her poor mommy! |
I dropped her off at 8 and now it's past 11 and no word yet... I guess that means there's no emergency but I still want to hear that she's okay! I have pictures of her all over my desk at work so I've been thinking about her all morning.... |

Sending you our prayers.:) |
 It's 4 in the afternoon and I hadn't heard anything all day. I just got a call, expecting it to be "She's ready to be picked up" but it was "I'm just about to start on Layla now, can you pick her up at 7 or 7:30 tonight?" She has been there since 8!!!!!!! |

They told me not to feed her past 9:00 last night so the last I know of her eating was around 8:30 last night. I'm hoping they did her bloodwork first thing this morning and then maybe let her eat... Would they let her eat before putting her under? They did ask what kind of kibble she eats. They better have let her eat! Now I have even longer to be worried sick about her. I really do love her vet, she's so good with Layla all the time, so I'm just shocked that this happened today. |
The reason why they say not to feed is because it the anthesia will make them sick with food in their belly. If the vomit while under it could aspirate into their lungs. Which is dangerous. They will wait to feed her until after. However, it still can make them vomit . I have had surgery, and my brother took me out to lunch. Not even an hour later, I puked sooooo much . The stomach needs to be empty before and after surgery. They do not even like it if you give water ! :aimeeyork How are thing with your Layla now? :aimeeyork |
Thanks for the info... so I guess she hasn't had food for almost 24 hours now. :( It\'s almost another 2 hours before I can pick her up. I just got home and I feel like crying! |
I am sorry :( Your baby will be ok! They really do not feel like eating after surgery. It is better to have her wait, until she feels better. :aimeeyork |
Sorry that you are still waiting. Hopefully she will be home soon. |
I just got her :D All that worrying for nothing. My poor baby is still a bit groggy... she was like a rag doll on the way home. She wasn\'t even excited to see me when I picked her up! They said they gave her a painkiller shot that should last for 24 hours and she\'ll be fine after that... but they also said to try feeding her soft food for the first few days to a week. Unfortunately the GOOD pet food store is closed so I had to settle with Cesar for tonight... terrible I know, but I will get something better tomorrow. I think she was just happy to get SOMETHING in her tummy. |
