Help!! 9 week old crying puppy!! Hi there, My boyfriend and I just got a baby yorkie! He is a male and his name is Jamee! He will be 10 weeks on saturday. Whenever we put him in his pen he starts crying. We tried growling at him, spraying him with water and ignoring him... Doesn't work! We are looking for some advice to see why he cries alot or what we could do to make him stop crying. Once he was left alone for 2 hours and we got home and he was still crying! Help!! Thank you!! Oh the poor baby. Have you tried to put a stuffed animal in with him? Or a clock that ticks. There is also some scent that you can spray on a blanket that should smell like mama. Someone on here posted something about that a while ago. You can always bring him to me.. I love babies and I seem to be able to keep them happy. Just a thought.... :) |
I hope someone experienced with this issue responds to you soon, I can't imagine growling or spraying water at him would make anyone stop....I would cry more !!! :eek: |
He's so young he will get better. Try leaving him for short periods of time and get him use to you coming and going. You may be scaring him by growling at him and spraying him with water. |
I'm sorry you are having a problem.....Spraying with water..IMO isn't good...Might make him afraid of water...baths..etc. We got Penny at 8 weeks...She loved her crate...but not the carrier...cried everytime.... Penny has never slept alone...she always sleeps with me.... But I made her crate like her special place...I covered the top with a big towel...Put her bed, toys, food,water, and a pee pad in there for her...(I got a big crate) She has always liked it....She stays in it when we leave the house....I know she is safe.... I'm sure other will have ideas...Good Luck...He is still a baby.......to me they remind me of real babies...:D |
hi Try to put pup in kennel for a short time ,when the pup goes into the kennel reward your pup, treats work.:) and sweet words! make sure you don't reward when pup is coming out of the kennel.I don't really say anything to pup on the way out of the kennel. I hope this will help it worked for my sweet hearts.:p |
Try Pheromone Spray Hi: I'd try using a Pheromone spray or plug-in that you can get at Petco or Petsmart or most pet stores. I got the plug-in that releases similar pheromone to what mothers give off... Its odorless and I use it for my pup when he's left alone while I'm at work. He cries minimally. I think it might help you. It will take time for your pup to adjust to his new environment. I've had my little one for 3 weeks now and I think he is finally getting the hang of living with us. I also put lots of toys, his favorite stuffed animal, and a T-shirt that smells like me so that he won't feel so lonely when I'm not there. Good luck! It will get better for you and for him! It'll just take some time. :) |
i don't know where his pen is.. but if there is a TV or Radio.. turn it on. It may help settle his nerves/anxiety about being in there. If he has some toys that are safe to be left alone with him, put them in there.. along with a bed, blanket, etc? (..you may have already done this?) I would try turning on the tv/radio.. and he is still very very young.. you have to get him used to being in there-like someone else mentioned-give him some treats and reward him for being good in his pen! :thumbup: |

I would definatly stop growling at him and squirting him. It will probably only make it worse. When I brought Hank home at 10 weeks he cried the whole way home the whole first day. Then he would cry continuosly when we put him in his crate. After the first couple of days he was so much better and he eventually stopped. Also i gave him some stuffed animals and a comfy bed that he could cuddle with. but please dont punish him (ie spraying or growling) while he is in his crate/pin. We are supposed to make them feel like that is a safe and comforable. also make sure he is in a small crate. They are supposed to be able to stand and turn around in and no bigger at that age big spaces are overwhelming. I would try a pet taxi! |
Spraying water and growling at a very young puppy will backfire. He is like a human baby, and needs lots of love and attention. He wants to be near you and cuddled. But, when you can't ease his fears by giving him a stuffed animal , or something that has your scent on it. reward him when he does not cry in his crate and tell him what a sweet, wonderful, puppy he is. puppies are supposed to stay with the mom and siblings until 12 weeks.. he probably feels unwanted and then even more when punished.. he will only respond to praise and lots of love.. if he is that sad, then use an xpen and get 2 puppies... since you have a 9 wk old puppy, there may be other emotional issues..he is obviously lonely |
The poor baby misses his family and needs love and time to adjust. Take the advice that the others have given and things will get better. He's only a little baby bless his heart. |
My baby did that and what I do is wrapped her in a recieving blanket and held her for a little while, her kennel has my t-shirt I sleep in for comfort. They are so small they want comfort and warmth. Try it... |
This is what I did . The crate is always beside my bed . The puppy senses your presence . Inside the crate I put my croc .. ( shoe ) he slept in it and loves crocs to this day . You are his Mother now .. no water spays , no growling . .. so be a mother . Make sure he does not have to pee or poo ..if not , back to bed . My puppy Wiz slept from 10 pm to 6 or 7 am from 8 weeks to now . He is over almost 4 months now and still not a peep out of him . Good luck and be patient . |
