i hate when people ask if pebbles is a teacup.. the other day this woman shouted at me across petco asking about pebbles. now, pebbles is almost 8 months and she just hit 3lbs and at the time she was around 2.8 pounds... this woman was like... IS SHE A TEACUP??! and I said no. firstly, i dont even know for sure waht she means by teacup.. what size is her idea of a "Teacup" anyway?? I ususally think people think "teacups" are below standard, you know, anything under 4lbs... but not this woman. i said no because teacups dont exist, not because pebbles is going to get big. this woman goes.. OH I THOUGHT SO SHE IS TOO BIG and I said what?!! i mean wth, pebbles is SO LITTLE. i said no theres no such thing as a teacup!!!... and she goes.. yes there is my friend has one that is this little.. and she made the smallest hand gesture of this little dog... yes pebbles was once that big.. and bam bam is currently that big, but he is a very small & young yorkie PUPPY that at the time weighed around 17 ounces at 12 weeks!!!! I said, yes I have one that big, but hes not a teacup. thats not what tehy are called, they are just yorkies. at this time i was getting kinda mad at her yelling at me literally from like 10 feet away and me having to yell back at her. what the heck, does she think puppies stay little forever? i do not think a 1 pound full grown yorkie exists, and if it does its probably the smallest dog in the world. grrr!!!! It just upsets me that people think puppies are FULL GROWN DOGS and when they see genuinely small yorkie thats almost full grown, they think its BIG becuase they have a puppy in mind. |

I don't think people are trying to be rude (well at least most), I think they just really don't know or understand the different breeds. Before I got interested in yorkies I would have never known the difference because I had never researched it. I agree with previous posters that all you can do is take it as an opprotunity to explain the difference beteen yorkies and a breed they might have mistaken your baby for. I don't know why some would be rude and insist your yorkie is something other then what you say (it takes all kinds to make the world go round I suppose). I just shrug and go on about my way. |
i feel the same way everyone else does...my baby is 7 pounds and taller than the average yorkie but people tell me 'oh he's big and tall' in a negative tone and carry on about how they would want one smaller but i cant seem to get through anyone that the smaller yorkie can have health problems and a shorter life but of course no one wants to hear all that. oh and my coworkers (all very nice people dont get me wrong but)....they are all convinced that my Saki is a yorkie mixed silky and came up with Sorkie...simply becoz he has big ears. so the day after i brought him in the office, i cound a pic of a yorkie with big ears labelled SAKI - THE SORKIE taped to my computer. Needless to day i wasnt very happy that day. |

I bet that statement shocks them. Bet you don't get much after that statement. I think people just don't have an ideal about the breed and they talk when they shouldn't. Its like they just want to have a conversation no matter what comes out of there mouths. |
What I found annoying was that I made a post on a Yorkie Facebook group explaining to people that there are no such things as teacups. I said that "teacup" is a bad term used by backyard breeders and pet shops to get people to pay more money for the runt of the litter. Then some girls responds saying, "My Yorkie is a "teacup" and she was the only puppy in the litter! But her parents were small, so it's probably a genetic thing." I understand that some people just aren't educated about this kind of stuff, but after having it explained to them, they just don't want to believe it?? And it's worse that she's a Yorkie owner who obviously hasn't done a minute of research  |
I have no problem when people realize they were mistaken and listen to what you have to say. But most of these people insist that they are right and that there are teacups or that your dog is not the standard or whatever, even though they have done zero research on it. They just have one friend that has a yorkie and suddenly they KNOW EVERYTHING! Its REALLY annoying. |
I met a lady yesterday and, of course, the subject of our babies came up. She has a Silky and she said people always ask her if her Silky is a Yorkie. She said maybe b/c her Silky is a little smaller. I've been asked SO MANY times if my Lexie is a Silky (she IS 15 lbs.), and I just say, "No. She's my mutant.":D |
YES, this is what irks me the most! Quote:
