Always afraid her getting sick or hurt???? Hi, I'm new to YT & love the forum. To tell you a little about my story...my daughter got a new 12 wk yorkie the middle of May for graduation/moving out present. She had her for approx. 4 weeks and we had to put her to sleep because of a liver shunt. :( This devastated my daughter who absolutely fell in love w/ her. Well, she just recently got another one and she's had her for a little over a month now. Her name is Leah and she's 12 wks and is full of life! My problem is: I'm absolutely scared something will happen to her. When I'm not with them I panick when she calls just to say hi or tell me what she's doing but I'm always afraid she's going to get sick or hurt. I'll even wake up at night and will be up for hours worrying. We love her and I just can't see my daughter go though what she did with her other one. I love the forum too BUT I panick when I see all the things that can go wrong. I know there has got to be "healthy" yorkies out there who grow to be old healthy dogs. How do I relax and just enjoy her? |
I had a very bad experience with my first, she is a yorkie mix. She is alive and well thank god but Lily had many health issues and surgery on both her back legs. This was difficult for me because I was newly married and my husband is in grad school. We made it through and she is all well, but what I have learned from this is it could happen to anyone and if you spend the time researching and finding a good breeder more than likely you will have no issues. But if you do it can only make you stronger, and all things happen for a reason. We just got our second and I was so nervous because I was so scared he was going to have issues but he is very happy and healthy. Ther are tons of health yorkies, I just think it is the bad stories that stick in our head. |
I know exactly how you feel, as I just lost my little 4# Yorkie due to two strokes. I immediately got another one, but as to the Vet's suggestion got a little bigger one. He says he sees all kinds of problems with those little ones. So far she seems healthy, and her legs are straight, etc. She was just spayed and weighs 7#3oz at 6-1/2 months. They are a worry, but hopefully every thing will go better with this one! Pat |
Take some Valium and relax. :) Just because the first yorkie had a health problem doesn't mean that the second one will. As long as you got the dog from a reputable breeder and your daughter is responsible, then I'm sure that her dog will do well. Good luck! |
I know exactly how you feel. I lost my Evee about 2 years ago from a rabies shot and I am just getting another yorkie. I will be picking her out this weekend. I am so scared of which to pick. And then thinking about when she actually comes home. I have totally puppy proofed the house, but I'm scared something might happen to her and I don't even have her yet. I think its one of those things where with time it will ease. Welcome to yorkie talk, we are glad to have you! :) |
I know....I just have to relax. An example is: my daughter is taking her to the vet today and I'm almost beside myself that she's going to get sick! :( My daughter tells me i'm going to be worse with a grandchild. Of course, she's with her all the time so she knows how she is all the time...i think that is why i worry so much....not in my "control"! I just pray a lot!!!!! :) Thanks for your support! |
I know how you feel. It seems alot of the problems come from the real tiny ones and of course a not so good breeder. Kayla was suppose to be 4lbs. when grown and I am so glad the little thing is a piggie. She eats us out of house and home and she weighs about 6lbs. which is really a good weight to me. I just feel better when they weigh a little more, not saying that any can have problems but the little bitty ones scare me. I hope this baby will be happy. Just try to relax. Kayla scares me the way she climbs. I think she is half goat. Just try to enjoy her and everything will be fine. |
Try to relax and enjoy her. The more time you spend with her and see that she is doing fine, the more you will realize that she is not as fragile as you think. I was a nut when I first got my ( then 13 week old & 1 lb ) KiKi b/c she had 4 siezures and almost died within the first 18 hours of having her...so it took me a little bit of time to be able to relax too...I hated going to work and leaving her...my every waking and sleeping thought was of her... Now KiKi is 8 months old and while tiny at 2.4 lbs...she is just like any other Yorkie! You will do just fine...with some time!! Welcome to YT!! |
I know a way to help you not to worry so much. Ask your daughter to bring her by and leave her with you everyday to babysit!:D |
Well, she's 12 wks and the last time she was weighed she was approx. 1 lb. 9 oz. She's going to the vet today so I'll know more then. Her 1st pup came from a lady who we some what knew....had had several litters and NONE of her other pups got sick. We got this one from a closer friend's dad who also had had several pups also, with none getting sick, so we'll see. Can the puppy shots make them sick? I've read so much....:( Makes me crazy!!! |
It is scary all the things that can happen to them. I loss my sweet Annie suddenly in March and was unbelievably blessed to get Gracie just 2 weeks later. It's July and I'm only just now getting a little less anxious. Two things I learned, 1) you do the very best you can and let God take care of the rest. 2) stay away from the "Sick/Injured" discussion group. :p I was making myself a basket case reading about all the stuff happening. I offer up a prayer when I see it asked for in the title, but I often can't read the thread because I was upsetting myself. I figure by next year I'll be able to handle reading them. Take a deep breath, let it out, relax and enjoy the incomparable joy these little angels give us. |

Ohhh!!! I just saw in your avatar that you're in Crawfordsville, IN. My dad was from there, that's where my mom and dad meet. He was going to Perdue. What a wonderful, charming little town. We still have many family friends that live in the area. I miss Indiana in the summer/fall time...but not in the winter!! Too much snow and cold for me. :D |
Yes, it's a great town....and Yes, WINTER'S are awful around here. Ecpecially last year! My husband went to Purdue, too. We have lived her our whole lives....and dont plan on ever leaving. Come back and visit sometime! |
