I'm sorry you're having this problem. Like others said, I would try to find somebody to help you. There's no way you have come have in the middle of the day to feed him and take him on a short walk. I know this is hard, but I'm sure you'll make the best decision for you and your puppy |
we sort of had the same situation because i work and i am in school as well! we got him on a schedules...its hard when they are puppies because they are SO energetic and need so much love, but they will grow used to it, and you will not feel as bad anymore AS LLONG AS U STICK TO IT! we feed our baby and walk him as soon as we get up, then we play a bit before we go to work/school. then if i am home for lunch (this is not often) we play, but he does not eat again until between 8-9. this makes it so we have to get up early to take him our to go pody...but he is happy and healthy and we are too! |

:thumbup::thumbup: I agree I have one puppy that his mom got a new job when he turned two. She is gone about 10 to 12 hours a day. He is fine with a walk in the morning and a walk at night and he is very well adjusted. He loves animal planet!!! |

I think there are worse situation's then Being in a caring home. He could be just throw outside with no food & water. She asked for a suggestion Because her family wont give the dog a potty break or feed it I gave her a solution. I don't think she needs to rehome the dog because she out alittle later than some of us I know of alot of people on this forum that work Full days & i'm sure there dog's are fine. |
I hope things work out for you. It's amazing how well they adapt. My husband is home all winter and I work 3 or 4 days a week but in the summer my husband works wed to sun. So there a couple days a week that they are alone from 10am to 4pm and they do fine. They keep each other company and watch the stock market on tv.:D. I live in nj but at the shore so you are about 45 min from me. I know you feel bad for him but please try everything possible before thinking about rehoming him. It is upsetting to them also as they become attached to us also. One of mine is a rescue, that is now in her fourth home and I have seen the problems she has had trusting us. It brings tears to my eyes just to see her little tail wag. |

I sincerely hope that Christina doesn't feel like she has to rehome her puppy just because she's away from him for a few hours a day. It's not worth the emotional pain, if you ask me. yes, I could understand that she should rehome Benny if she were hardly EVER home, but she leaves in the morning and comes home in the evening, like anyone who works. Tucker never had someone with him all day when he was a puppy and he's perfectly socialized, housebroken, and trained. It's not necessary to ALWAYS be around your pup, as long as they are safe when you're not home, and get love and attention when you are. JMO of course, but I wanted to share it. :) |

Do EVERYTHING you can before re-homing him. I just think that you will regret it so much and if you ever get another dog later in your life, you will always wish you had kept little Benny. It's not a decision you can go back on once you have re-homed him. I feel so so bad for you. You clearly love him very much, as you are willin to put his needs and feelings before our own. I think you will make a wonderful mummy. All the best to both you and YOUR Benny x x x x |
I agree w/ the other member that said to put down pee-pee pads and a food timer. My dogs have a doggy door (obviously, that's not possible for you) and are free-fed. They are by themselves M-F 8-5 and they are fine! I think as long as you give your dog a place to pee, eat/drink and play, he will be fine! 5:30 or 7:00 is not that late! He will be excited to see you every time you walk through the door regardless of the time. Just make sure you give him lots of love when you get home. :) |
Welcome! I am sorry to hear this! I don't know what you should, I feel helpless, sorry! But I will bump this up for you. |

I work a compressed work week. 3 on 3 off 4 on and 4 off. My Pepper is alone for about 14 hours on the days I work. He is doing great! I have an xpen with his crate, food, water, pee pee pad and some toys. Of course we are together 24/7 on my days off so I guess it balances out. Pepper is almost 5 months old and we have been doing this since the fourth day after I got him. He was 12 weeks old when I brought him home. He is a very happy and healthy puppy. I love him so very much! |
Welcome to YT!! Hope Terri & Megan can somehow help you out and you can keep your baby with you. Many of us have to work all day and be away from our furbabies - they do adapt. I think you can make this work - perhaps a pet sitter or daycare a couple times a week to help out - I understand it can be expensive - but a good day at daycare might help wear Benny out for the next day too. |
post I'd post an ad on craigslist, you'll be amazed at the responses you get. I found at least 12 people wanting to do petsitting for me when posted and found a girl in high school. |
thanks for all your responses and help! after your encouragement and realizing that people do do this all the time- leaving their puppies alone is not always the worst thing...i just feel guilty because he's so tiny, he's a baby! BUTTT, i know it can work...i'll make it work! me and my mom talked about it and we realized benny can't go anywhere- he's part of our family and we love him way too much already! thank you everyone! and i look forward to learning more about yorkies from this site...this site is amazing!!!! thankkk youu!!!! love, christina and benny! |
:yay_jump::yay_jump::cheer::cheer::cheer: Im so happy for you and your baby and i so glad your moms backing you up and loves him to. |
