Running Off Ok...yesterday and today cute little miss innocent and never does anything wrong has gotten a wild hair up you know where. The new thing is to run down the street to the neighbors yard. I call her and she just keeps on going. So tonight I grabbed the car key and honked the horn a couple times. That got her attention so I decided to get in and act as if I was leaving. She came running but I'm worried she's going to make this running off thing a habit. Please helpppppp, I don't want her running off and not coming when I call. This is not like her she always just follows me around and stays close. :( |
I don't think I would let her run loose anymore. Some dogs are runners and some aren't. Diesel NEVER runs. We can be in a strange place and he still doesn't run. My granmother's dog on the other hand will run in a heartbeat if given the chance. I don't think I would take any chance with your little one. |
Well it's not really like she bolts, she just starts walking off down the road. We don't live on a busy street thank goodness but still if I call for her she should always respond. The only time she really does it is when my sons 50 lb. almost 6 month old pup is out there with her. it's like double trouble when they're together. Maybe I should make him come in when I take her out. |
i have heard this story alot but usualy ends in a bad way. trust me its on here alot. please keep her on a leash or carry her. they always say she always follows me i know you love your dog and wouldnt want anythng to happen to her. all it takes is just once. dont mean to scare you but it happens way too often |
I know that's why it bothers me so much that she's doing this now. |
please be more than careful. |
Please keep her on a leash. My Sandy took off once.. after another dog.. She never had done that. It scared me so much... she could have gotten run over. I brought her in and put her in her kennel.. and she stayed there until my heart got back to normal.. She was on a leash after that for a long time when we were out front. She has never done it again... but I always look out to make sure there are no cars coming and no kids or animals around before we go out. |
Put her on a harness and leash! MeiLing is doing that now and she is not allow to go outside unless she is on a harness and leash! Because once she takes off so does Kioko... |
how about kioko and suki as his cinderella? sorry off topic |
I'm in the process of training my two new Biewers to not run off. I go out side and we have a long walkway. I hide behind the edge of the house and then my husband opens the door and walks back into the kitchen. Of course both Spanky and Darla head down the walk. Whewn they get to me they get a loud NO and squirted with the hose lightly. It trained all the others not to leave the house without permssion and these guys will learn soon. Then they get the don't go in the street training. With my 7 I would trust them all to never run off and never touch the street. The new ones should be trained by the end of Sept. I think training it the best way to ensure they are never lost or hurt. |
You need to put your baby on a lesh/harness ..... or this will end up in bad news ...... I can never ever let mine outside not being on a leah ... she will take off in a sec. .....:( |

If she likes to go outside with you, put her on a harness and leash and walk around with her. Please be careful, there is a recent post that is about a yorkie getting ran over. It is so sad when that happens, and I would hate for it to happen to you. |
I leave a leash on and all times so that if she starts to run, I can quickly grab the leash. So far, she is not fast enough to outrun me but that might change pretty soon. If I leave the leash off, I have trouble catching her when she starts zigging and zagging. |
My pup has also started doing this! We live in the country so I am not afraid she will get ran over but she will chase after deer! Yesterday I was chasing after her, chasing after a deer and she went all the way to the beginning of the woods! I got really scared because if I was not paying attention she could have went in and gotten lost :( She will also get the deer poop (gross I know) in her mouth and want me to chase her around the yard. I started today putting her on her leash every time she went out side. The risk is not worth the extra 10 seconds it takes to put it on and take it off. |
