Baby play pens?

I have to put my lil spaz on lock down a bit more! :eek:

Can a full grown yorkie clear the sides to this? Shes a bit on the tiny size. I cant see it but yall know best!

Reese and his littermates were placed in a pac n play for bedtime. I purchase a play pen since he's used to this. Bring him home....and within 4 days he learned how to climb out of it. Don't ask me how...I never saw him do it...only the wiggly puppy meeting me at the door. :rolleyes:

UMM yeah my Bandit is only 2.4 lbs and 4 months old and can clear the rails....he used to scale the netting and climb out but about 2 weeks ago he just started jumping straight out of it....just so nobody freaks out....its at the end of our bed so when he jumps out he's jumping onto the bed, not onto the floor. Anyways....every yorkie i've met can jump with the best of them.

Oh we nicknamed Bandit: Monkey. lol fits him perfect.

And that playpen is the exact same one that I have for Bandit.

WOW I almost bought a playpen for Scooter for during the day when I go back to school... good thing I read this! This doesn't happen with the ex-pens from pet stores does it? Maybe I can get one of them instead...

I'm thinking your Lil Spaz ( to cute) will get out of there.. I tryed a playpen at first with my guys and they climbed the walls like a ladder. I would recommend a x-pen made for dogs....works well for mine..

Well...my second monkey, Reggie...climbed out of the x pen.

My boys say...don't fence us in. ;)

Fortunately Hot Rod is too short to jump out of his expen and where his crate is, he can't climb on top to get out either. I've heard other yorkies have figure out how to get out.:eek:

I think it depends if your dog seems to be really wanting out and figures out how to climb or jump out. The x pen is the same thing. I have 1 that can climb out of anything.

I'm pretty certain mine climbed...and didn't jump out. The play pen was as tall as a babygate. No one has ever gone over the babygate. It has slots...no where for any paws.

Someone posted a video of hers escaping...it was hilarous.

Well, I must be lucky with Bella. I had the exact playpen.....& loved it. She never climbed/jumped out. She even @times wanted to get in....would go to the side & look up @me!:p I will tell ya that I started when she was just a puppy....so she got use to it. The only downside to this one: I wanted to be able to move from room to room easily & it is wider than my doorways....so I had to collapse it before moving which was a nuisance. So I ended up buying this:

I can't tell you how much I love this one!:D It's just as long, but not as wide, so it fits perfectly through the doorways. I also attached smooth casters to the bottom so that it would slide from room to room. It collapses to a very small diameter too. We took it recently on a trip, takes very little space......Love it! Bella loves it too!!:D You can find coupons online too for Petsmart! Good Luck!

We have a playpen for Rowdy. He came home Friday...on Sat. left him in there while I was getting ready for his first vet appt. and I walked back in to find these big eyes looking at me like "help me, i'm stuck!" He had climb up on top of the kennel that's in the playpen and tried to jump out...luckily he didn't quite make it and he feel in between the side of the playpen and the kennel! He wasn't hurt, he just couldn't move! It was kinda of funny...I ran to get my hubby for him to see how smart the little guy is before i picked him up! I took the top off the kennel cab, and that fixed the problem for now!

Forgot to mention...if you do decide to go with a playpen, try local children's resale shops first. I bought mine for $22 in perfect condition. That way you won't be out 50-60 buck if it doesn't work!

Hmmmm.....in my opinion you would be better off getting a crate or something with full enclosure. It doesn't take them long to figure out how to climb out. It would be a waste of your money.......and dangerous for the pup.

We had a pack n play for logan. We used a fitted crib sheet over the top & that kept him in. but they he started plucking the sides & once he'd get a whole started out he'd come. Now we have a doggy play pen. I put cloth mesh over the top from the fabric store & he can get in & out through the door; this has been a much better option for him, but when he get upset he's able to tear through the door around the zipper. The door is pretty much just duct tape now.

Here is an idea that I got from somewhere, maybe from a member of YT. Sorry I did not put down the author. If anyone recognizes this as their idea please take credit for it. Here it is:

IDEA TO KEEP DOGGIE IN EX-PEN
You could go to any home improvement store and get some crossed trellis material (it usually comes in plastic sheets or wooden expandable/collapsible sizes) and attach with some plastic zip ties at one end(as a hinge point) and simply rope/twine as needed to keep it down

I have also heard of putting a sheet over and keeping it down with some of those plastic hook & ball type things that you can use to hold babies' blankets down. (Hate it when people talk about "things" and here I am doing exactly that.:()

It's a playpen especially for dogs..It looks great as it folds away neatly..great for packing in the car..so i'm getting one for Pixie for when we go away on holidays..and for use at the MIL's house..(too many hazards there!:rolleyes:) and it's in PINK!!!! YAY! lol...:p

i would just buy an Xpen if i were you! (you can find them at petco, etc. they sell them at most local feed stores. & you can buy them online as well! ;)) It is a good thing to have, even once your baby gets older! :thumbup:
It gives them MORE room than the play pen & will be MUCH harder to get out of!;)) ..PLUS they can see out of the xpen (& won't feel trapped in?!) :D

Yeah i agree..I wouldn't leave a pup in a playpen for very long periods..an X- pen or larger crate may be a better option..
The playpen (above) that i'm getting for Pixie is for away from home use only..ideal for folding away..It will be used at night to sleep in and when we go out and can't take her with us or when I just can't supervise her 100%...My MIL's house is not the most relaxing environment when i'm visiting with Pixie..they tend to bound around the house and not watch their feet..and they leave outside doors open!!:eek: they are just not used to having such a little one around..so the portable pen will be a safe haven for Pixie and peace of mind for me!;)

Get an X-Pen! I think it would be the better choice.

Mia could jump out of her playpen at about 4 months. She's a little monkey!

Its EXTRA high - its for parents with two story homes. Even as an adult - nooo way LOL

Too funny! This makes me feel a lot better than her 'cage' - I didnt like that old thing. She hasnt done anything wrong - no sense in being in a cell. I figure if this is humane enough for a human - it is good enough for my lil girl!

Here are a few quick snaps - at 17 weeks I dont think she will get much bigger?

If so - heavier - not taller? When she stand - her paws are about a third of the way up. She hasnt tried to jump yet but has put her paws there when I walked by.

I just bought one of these very similar to yours a couple of months ago for my little Tatum so that I can keep her in it after she has her LP surgery. I had a play pen a couple of years ago when I first brought my little Stedman home, and that boy learned to crawl up and OUT of the whole entire thing at only 13 weeks old! He is an acrobat though :rolleyes: My little Tatum would NEVER be able to crawl out of one of these (she is almost 2 years old) - and especially not after she has her LP surgery...not to mention, she is deathly afraid of heights!

Have you considered getting an xpen for your baby? Or what about a gate to block her off in the kitchen or somewhere else in the house?

Well - I have this now so I reckon I will use it til it doesnt work anymore then figure out something else. Hopefully - by then - she will be well potty trained and not need to be confined at all - except for my 'puppy proof' room with the bathroom door shut. I worry about her climbing into the toilet so I keep the bathroom door in my room CLOSED at all times!

She could put her nails through it and climb it but she sure seems to like it in there. Plus - I now feel a lot less guilty putting her in there than in her 'cage' and Im getting a lot more done! I so didnt like putting her in that old cage. Ew - I dont like that but know its for the best. I have to confine her to properly potty train her and to keep her safe. Thank Heavens she wont poo or pee anywhere she sleeps - amen!

Is she big? Small? Normal? For 17 weeks? What will she top out at? Weight is only an issue because I broke my back in 7 places last August - a semi truck hit me. I can never pick up anything over 10 POUNDS - ever. I dont remember any of it so dont be sad - I only hurt really bad all the time. And forever.

Only two accident today! Not too bad - we will get through it together. She has the idea - she just has an attitude -giggle-

What did she weigh at 12 weeks? Doubling that gives a close...guess.

MeiLing can get out of anything for a cage like kennel that one of the slide me out lift me up lock to an xpen...so now i am crating her...they too smart for their own good...

I put my momma dog and pups in a play pen and they do alright.
Right now my chorkie is in one with her pup, and does not climb out.
(she can however climb a baby gate in an instant!)

But won't get out of the play pen and now of the others get in, no matter how much they want to see the pup!

17 weeks i think she still will be growing....jmo...hehe
