Rescue or STEALING?!!! I'm so upset at my next door Neighbor, she picked up a stray Dog (male 6-8 month old puppy) that was wandering around in the street. It had a collar on but it was roaming around lost, she refuses to take it to the Humane Society b/c she claims she does'nt want him to experience the Trauma of the 10 day Quarentine period. So he has been crated all day while she is at Work, she has Cats so he can't come inside her House at all! She keeps him outside in her Carport in this humid 100 degree heat since she is allergic to Dogs. She's about 50 yrs. old and she's only had 1 Dog in her Life so she's not really a "Dog Person". She's trying to find him a new Home but no Luck yet, it's been about a week now and his presence/barking is irritating my 3 Yorkie's! She refuses to take him back to the Neighborhood she found him. If I Lost my Dogs I would hope that whom ever Found them would take them to a Vet. or Shelter hoping that they would scan them since they are Micro-chipped! I don't think she's being fair to the rightful Owners and I'm frustrated with her since she thinks and believes that she is Rescuing him, but who is going to Rescue him from Her? We have tried to talk to her, it's gotten to the point where my girl friends want to steal him and take him to the no-kill Shelter just so he won't be suffering in this heat! What should I do? It breaks my Heart to see him un-happy and what about his real Owners? |
I know it shouldn't be your responsibility but if you know the neighborhood in which she found him, could you post flyers. Or call the local shelters and ask if anyone has reported the dog missing? |
Oh you poor dear. If I was you, I would call the no kill shelter and let them know what is going on. They should know what to do in this situation. Putting a dog in a crate in 100* weather is not being kind. I am sorry if I am sounding too harsh but that is the way I feel. I hate animal abuse of any kind and although this lady is trying to help, she is very misguided. Do you know where she found this little dog? Can you call the vets and/or shelter in that area and ask if someone is missing this little guy? How about posting an ad in the paper? Just my thoughts... |
oh my goshh.. im sorry you are going through this with her! that poor doggy! :( im not sure what you should do.. but i am bumping this up, so others can chime in!!! (again, i hope you can help the poor lil thing be returned to it's rightful owners.. cuz like you said im sure they miss him! :() and outside in a crate in the heat!!.. not only do you feel bad for the dog, but he is disrupting your household(of course i dont blame him, he is probably sooo uncomfortable!!:() maybe put a post on craigslist? (maybe the owners will see it??) i dont know?! good luck! keep us posted!! |
is that animal cruelty...and can she not be reported? |
I'd call your local humane society and report the lost dog just in case the owner is looking for him and let them know the situation. Maybe they'll send someone over to get him then if he's barking continuously and is in an unsafe condition. |

stealing him back is a good option since she stole him first and hasnt a clue how to care for him.. it is abuse to keep him crated in the heat. help that poor dog and take him away:aimeeyork |

She wouldn't be able to call and report that someone stole her stolen dog! Although, she might suspect the OP since he has already tried to talk to her about it. But, if he doesn't mind being at odds with his neighbor, go for it! |
She doesn't want him taken care of in a no kill shelter. But she puts him outside in the heat and in a crate. That poor little dog. How can she even think that is fair to him? Hope you know where he came from and help him out. Good Luck do what your heart tells you. |
Being outdoors all day in this weather could kill that poor puppy:unlove: Stealing is wrong, but letting an innocent animal suffer is worse:( I know what I'd be doing, as soon as this poor excuse for a human being was gone to work, it'd be my mission;) |

I also agree That is not right at all. Let the propper people know and she should do the right thing.:thumbdown |
2 words... steal him |
SHE stole him, YOU would be rescuing!! I totally agree with everyone else ... take him and get him to safety from that monster!! Do you know if there was any information on the collar he was wearing?? God bless you for caring! |
Have your girlfriend steal him and bring him to the no-kill shelter. Best for the pup! |
Does the collar he's wearing have a tag on it? If so, see if you can get a number or addy off of it and get in contact with the owners. I think its horrible that someone would keep an animal like that when it obviously belongs to someone else. *shame shame* Wonder how she would feel if one of her cats were lost and nobody would return it? |
Yeah, puppies wander off often. Then they cant find home. :( You said she was looking for a home for it. Maybe tell her you found a home for it, then try to find its owners? Could you or a friend hold onto it until you do? It sucks the dog has to be in that heat all day. |
I understand that it must be hard to report her since she is your neighbor and you have to live next door to her for probably a long time. But, if something happens to that puppy and I didn't do anything I'm not sure I could forgive myself. If I were you I'd report it and have it removed. You could print out some information on animals and heat and have her read that too. Sounds like she doesn't have much common sense if she doesn't take it back to the neighborhood she found it in and leaves it out in the heat all day. So showing her any info. might not be of help. Do what you have to do to save its life. Good Luck and keep us posted! :( Poor puppy! |
im sorry, but what she's doing to him is far worse than him wandering the neighborhood. the heat right now will probably kill that puppy. if i were you, and if she just keeps him in a crate in the backyard (in the heat) i would just go back there and get the dog out. then i would contact the owner or whoever is on that tag. either way, i couldnt sit back and let that dog suffer in her hands. |
I would either call the local animal control to report that she found the dog and has not notified anyone. In Virginia you must notify authorities right away or put up fliers saying you found the dog. It is also illegal to remove a collar from an animal. I do not know the laws where you are but they are probably similar. Or I would be to get a friend to take the dog and give it to a no kill place and tell them the area the dog was found. Someone probably is looking for this dog. And like someone else said what is she going to do report the dog stolen, it's not even hers! |
uhhh that's a tuff one! can you try to convince the lady to take care of her while you find him a home??? that way you can post sign of him, I'm sure somebody is looking for him, a puppy with a collar can never be a stray, he has a home! |

I am concerned that the dog is going to die of heat stroke. That woman does not care about the puppy. Call animal control and report it as a cruelty case. Or go get the dog yourself and take him to the no kill shelter. Your neighbor probably thinks she is doing the right thing, however is ignorant . She has left with you with no chioce but to intervene.! |
