Newbie~ and flight question Hey all, I finally was able to register on this site! I'm sorry I don't have a picture as I don't have net at my house and the school's computer is very restricted, but once I get back to America with my boy I'll post pictures. I have a six month old Yorkie who is pretty large in my opinion. He's already 10 inches tall and 6 and a half pounds! He's finishing up on teething, though he's going to have to go in to get his canines pulled pretty soon unless they finally fall out first since the new ones are already pushing through ;-; Anyway, he's going on a trans-pacific flight with me next week as we move back to America from Japan. Has anyone had experience with long distance flights (10 hours) like this and have any advice to give? Thanks and nice to meet you all! ~Laura and Napoleon:animal-pa |
To Our New Yorkie :animal36GREAT TO HAVE ON BOARD,WELCOME.THANKS FOR JOING US CATHY IN STERLING,IL |
:yorkietal Welcome to YT! I would definately take your dog on board with you. He is still small enough that I hope you can find an airlines that will let you. Talk to your vet about possibly needing something to help your Yorkie relax during the flight. Also he may need something for his ears.. :aimeeyork |
Thanks for the welcome :D Napoleon is definately going on board with me. I got him a Sherpa bag that he loves to go into whenever he's in the tatami room where I keep it, so that's good. I'm mostly concerned about the best way to deal with bathroom issues. It's ten hours, so he'll have to go a few times, but I don't want him sitting in his pee. I was thinking of using puppy diapers for the trip. mscat, do you know of anything for the ears that I might be able to find at a pet store? It's easier for me to try to work my way through the language barrier here if I have an idea of what I'm trying for. ~Laura |
Welcome to YT!! Be sure to read the Traveling with Yorkies forum -- I know others have come across the world -- just can't remember the countries. I'll go see if I can find some threads for you. |
here are some threads and maybe you contact the original poster of this thread thru a PM and see if she can tell you about her experience since she just came from Japan last mth http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...-japan-us.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...ng-flight.html |
Oh thanks a bunch!! I:ll check these out right now! ~Laura |
Welcome to yorkie talk! I have heard of people using puppy pads. They take the pup to the bathroom stall and lay out the pad for them to use. Flush the poo and throw away the pad. I have never tried it but it might be a bit restricted in the potty room to do that...but could be an option if need be. ;) |
