Not all of these commercial operations have the living conditions we think of when we think of puppy mills. Some are very clean facilities. They all have one thing in common, though. Puppies are raised in cages with minimum human contact, no health testing or genetic screening is done, and the dogs who live there spend their lives in a cage producing little after litter. :(
Pet shop puppies come from puppy mills no matter what the store owner may tell you. People are usually shocked to find out their puppy came from a mill in Missouri when they were told he came from a "local breeder." |
