Please help me make a decision I purchased a Bichon Frise a week ago, exactly a week later I took her to the vet to get her checked as suggested by the seller. Well, my vet asked me to keep an eye on her b/c he thought she may have kennel cough. Anyway, I called the place I bought her from and they suggested I bring her in for 10 days so they could take care of her that way I wouldnt spend money on vet bills, which I did. I went to visit her today and she looked so scared and different. I know about NY's Pet Lemon Law, I still have time to request a refund or exchange her for another dog but I feel horrible doing this. At the same time I am a little concern that she will not be a healthy dog b/c she has gone through so much in her short 12 weeks of life. Here's the thing..I can exchange her for either a maltese or a yorkie however, the thought of doing this kills me, it hurts me to even think about doing such thing but I am also scared that she will get sick and I would lose her after getting attached to her. I can get the maltese for $400 dollars more and the yorkie for $300 dollars more. I am so confused. I don't know what to do and my heart is broken. I am asking God why me..Please help me make up my mind. |
Awww poor baby!!! Dont give up on her. Kennel Cough should not be something that will affect her in the future. I sounds like you got her from a store and most store puppies have kennel cough (in NYC-dont know about other places). Chewy had at least 4 or 5 "pet store" issues when I got her. In the last 2 years I know 3 people who have bought dogs from stores around me and they have all basically had the same thing. I would suggest to stick with her... shell be so thankfull that you did whats best for her. Good luck... hope she feels better |
That is a very difficult decision, I am so sorry you are in this situation. just follow your heart and your head, only you can decide what's best for you. If you already attached to the dog, then I would say keep it and try get her better. Kennel cough is curable so hopefully it is only that and she will get better. If the vet finds other things wrong with her that could just be a sign that the breeder is a bad breeder and you should not support them any longer by getting another dog from her. So if you do decide to get another puppy, I would so to go with a different breeder. A breeder that has so many different breeds available is a sign that it may be a puppy mill. Good luck! And let us know how everything goes.. |
Mild to moderate kennel cough doesn't require any treatment at all. It's likely there wouldn't be any additional vet fees. A bad case of kennel cough is treated with antibiotics. This sounds like a pet store...with the other breeds you're mentioning. Of course she's scared and maybe traumatized by being put back there. Really trying to phrase this nicely....but I don't think pets should be considered interchangeable and certainly not for something as simple as kennel cough. It sounds like you regret getting this particular breed more than any concern for her. :( |

Thanks for all you opinions. I agree that pets should not be interchangable this is exactly why I am feeling super guilty about even considering doing such thing. I think I will keep her. I will keep you guys updated. |
help needed I am wondering if anyone out there can help me........here goes !!!! My son-in-law is USAF ,one of his co-workers here in the UK, was about to take an unwanted dog to the pound ( this poor dog is approx 2 years old and has had 3 owners and very obviously has been neglected during this period of time) although because she has just slotted into family life and curls up with my Labradors, someone must have loved her once)........my heart broke, as he walked up our driveway with this wee scrap, she had been living in a cat transporter box for 18 hours a day and had very bad urine burnt legs etc. she has been with us for over a week now and has zero bad habits, she is an angel and she has captured my heart. My questions are she has bald back legs how can I encourage healthy hair growth?? is she pure Yorkie or what cross I have no clue as to her heritage ( not that it matters she is with me for ever) she has dog meat out of a can at the moment, my other Lab girls have eukanuba but this doesnt seem to "float her boat" appetite wise any ideas?? and how many feeds per day ?? doing 2 at the moment. Last question I promise, what about clipping ??? yes or no ..........thank you guys Love Annieg and Dottie ( Dangit !!!!want to send pic but cant figure out how to do it !!!) |

You're right, pets should not be interchangeable. I have two Bichons and would highly recommend them to anyone. They are hypoallergenic, very smart and sweet. They are great companions and like Yorkies, are addictive. Kennel cough sould not be anything that affects her future. Do keep us updated. |

I think you should keep the dog |
My fear is that why would the lady offer me another pup? would it be b/c itis something worse than Kennel cough? hmm I am at work devastated, crying and confused about all this! Sorry If I sound too dramatic I'm just desperate. |
I couldnt agree more!! Good post  Quote:

That being said...ever heard of "bait and switch". You purchased a cheaper puppy...if she sells you another breed...it's more money in her pocket. And she'd still have the bischon to resell...probably for the same amount you already paid. You mention some type of warranty period. Would that time period expire if she keeps the puppy ten days...meaning you would left without some re-course? That's another possibility. Then again...after all you returned the puppy...it's possible she's just trying to keep from refunding your money. All of those scenarios could be completely untrue because it's all a guess. A better relationship with a worth coming breeder would have helped eased your concerns tremendously here. I understand your concern...the what if's, but owning a pet will always involve potential heartache. Things happen that are totally out of anyone's control. You will still be just as heartbroken when a pet, who's provided years of companionship passes away. Personally were it me...puppy is paid for, you own her...I'd go pick her up. |
