Is your Yorkie still Black and tan? Holly is 9 1/2 months old and still has the same coat that she had when I brought her home, somewhere between cotton and silky and black and tan. Some of her head hair has lightened up a bit with a dash of silver, but that is it. Do you think her coat will be this color and texture forever or do some Yorkies change color and coat later? |
Chip is still very much black and is 1.5 years old. He's got "silver highlights" as I like to call them. |
me too! 1 Attachment(s) My hair is the same as yours, but then again, I am only 6 months old. |
It sounds like you are discribing my 9.5 year old, Koda! LOL:D |
Lilly will be a year old July 8th and she's still black & tan. I see a few strands of hair every now and then that look like they have a lighter tint to them and her head hair has lightened up some with the silver like you mentioned. I wonder if she'll lighten up too, my boyfriend's boss said their Yorkie used to be the colors Lilly is but lightened up a lot over the years and now at 8 years and some odd months she's very light so I'm not sure! |
I groom alot of older yorkies that are still black and tan. I know that it is not the "desired color", but they are my favorite! They keep that cute puppy look forever!!!:) |
Max is still black and tan and he's a little over 3 yrs old now. He has a little bit of silver on his body, but b/c we keep him shaved most of the time, it's hard to even see it. And it's not very much anyway. He's very dark. Madison is totally the opposite! |
2 Attachment(s) My mom's Yorkie, Rebel, is 1 year old and he is still black and tan. His head is silver, but his body is super black. Lola and Cujo(my younger twin sisters' Yorkie) are both gold and silver and we started noticing a color change at the roots of the hair at about 4.5 to 5 months of age. Your baby could still change colors, I don't know. I am just sharing my experience with you. Here is a pic of Rebel, so you can see his dark coloring. The second pic is Lola at about 8 months old. You can kinda see the silver hair underneath her black puppy hair. |
2 Attachment(s) Avie is still black and tan.. and she is 1 year 2 months old! i know its not the 'standard' but i LOVE her this way! :) The dark babies are my fave! :D |

turning grey 1 Attachment(s) Marty McFly is turning grey slowly, 9 months old. |
According to all the literature i've read their coats can keep changing til they're two. Dougal never really changed - still black and tan - at 5 years old I think i'll have to wait for him to become an old man before he turns silver. :P |
Mine is over 15 months now and she still has it ... ;) |
2 Attachment(s) Camden is 2 1/2 and she's still black. I love it because she's totally opposite of Wrigley and it's nice having the variation! She does still look like a puppy! |
Pucci is 8years old and his coat has not changed at all...still black and tan or gold...he does though have a little white or gray around the mouth for the past 2years....looks like a "got milk" poster.:) As soon as I get a new digital I'll post pics. Tina |
Rebel will be 2 in August, and he is still black and tan. Lucy turned 2 in January and I think she's been every color in the rainbow! She started out black and tan, then turned mostly blonde, but now there is a steel grey color coming out on her back again. I wonder if she secretly uses Lady Clairol! |
Pixie was black and Tab until she turned 2 now she is getting real silver on her back, Cali is 3 today and is still black and Tan. Roxie is 9 months old and still black and tan. |
all different here,, 1 Attachment(s) but ,, love em all!! Attachment 225733 |

My little Mia is 7 mo's and black and tan. She will always stay that way. She has a bit of silver on her head, more might come through as she gets older. I love her coloring, that's what I wanted when I was looking for a puppy. Maybe because she isn't the 'standard' coloring a lady assumed she wasn't purebred. I was walking with her one day and ran into a lady with 2 yorkies.... for some reason she had to clarify her yorkies were 'purebred', i politely said, "so is mine". :) |
Bella I think Bella is still fairly Black she is 3 now so dunno if she will change anymore...she has not changed much since she was 1.5-2 years old. :) http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w...c/bella002.jpg Diggy is just a year so he is still very black! |
My Lola Belle just turned five months on Friday and she already has a lot of gray coming in on the top of her head. The rest of her coat is black and tan right now. Her parents had more of a silver and tan coloring, so I think she will too eventually. |
:aimeeyork Suzi is 4 months old today .The top of her head is changing silver, and her feet have changed to very light in color. Other then that she has all black on her, and her underside near her chin is a little light in places. :aimeeyork |
LilyGrace is still black and tan...she is 3 1/2 years old now...but she is getting lighter (grey) on her back. Mojo (who is 5) has always been lighter...but I can't remember when he started turning. |

Abby is 5 months old, so she's still very young, but she's exactly as the OP described. |
Buddy is 4 1/2 and is still Black and Gold, however, if I allowed his back to grow in he would then have gold streaks going threw the black. |
2 Attachment(s) I'm so glad to see there are other "black and tan" babies out there. Layla is 2 and she is still all black and tan (and has a curly coat.. coudln't be any more opposite of the "Standard" than she is... well her weight is standard.. lol.. i guess that's soemthing ) and people are ALWAYS asking me if she is a puppy and are shocked when i tell them she is 2. but we LOVE it... she will forever be a "puppy" because of her coloring. She has a bit of silver on her back legs where the tan meets the black but that's it. |
For as many as there are, perhaps Black and Tan should be a new standard? I'm happy to see we are in such great company! |
1 Attachment(s) My Otis is very black and cottony! |
Buddy head went from black to grey to a white/light silver and is now turning tan. As for the rest of him his coat changed a little around 5 months, now at 9 months there are rapid changes occuring. I am trying to grow his hair out, but now I am tempted to cut it again to get the black ends off and see some new coloring. I have read the color can change for up to 3 years, so I am just along for the ride. |
