Scruffy Puppy! 1 Attachment(s) Help! Mojo is the absolute love of my life! I think he's so handsome, but recently people have started telling me he's scruffy looking! :( He's only 4 and a half months old, and i was under the impression i couldnt get him groomed till he was 6 months.. I bathe him regularly, he just hasnt had a hair cut yet! When is the right time to give your little baby a haircut? I kind of like the black and tan and i know this will change (he's already becoming very silver/gray) but I just dont know when to start the grooming and hair cuts! Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you! Happy friday :) |
2 Attachment(s) I think your baby is so cute with his wild hair :D My little guy looked like a little mop, but a cute mop...and I finally got him his first haircut at 7 months. He looked way scruffier than your baby :D I think you can give a haircut now. I just waited as it was hard for me to let go of the puppy hair. My Baby looks all grown up now :( |
Haha, thank you!! Yes, i love him dearly! Yes, i think it may be more the idea of getting him his first "big boy" haircut.. i want him to look like a puppy for a little while longer! I love the moppish look.. youre baby is ADORABLE! He's so well groomed! The first time he went for a bath (i now give him his baths myself) the groomer said that it wasnt a good idea to cut of his puppy hair yet.. as the new hair wouldnt grow back properly.. not sure what that meant.. ill look into it anyways! Thank you for getting back to me! :) |
He is defenitly handsome,. and i think he is very cute:) love him. Snickers was scruffy too.. but i went to the groomer with him for the first time about 3 weeks ago I would do it when you want to. if you want to wait till 6 months fine too...but you can also go now i think :) Good luck and let people talk.. i love him ..thy r probabbly jealous :) |
Thank you Priscilla! |
He's adorable. Cute as can be! He looks way better than mine did at that age. There is a stage they go through, ya know? Anyway, he's precious and I wouldn't change anything about him. Keep him as a baby as long as you can.:D |
1 Attachment(s) My Littlest Mac is also getting to that scruffy-puppy stage thought he's only 15 weeks old. I want to let it grow out some more too. So, other than shaving the ear tips, we're just not quite ready to let the groomers get a hold of him quite yet. ;) I think Mojo's adoreable too! |
Scruffy or not, he's adorable! Don't worry, all puppies go through a stage where they look scruffy. He'll grow out of it eventually. |
You can get them groomed whenever YOU feel like he needs it. I think he looks adorable as he is. Don't let others influence you in that regard. Just do it when you think he needs it. Both of you posters have very cute furkids! |
Baxter will be 6 months tomorrow. I had to have him shaved at 5 1/2 months because I let him get matted after his neutering and dew claw removal. He was so miserable from that and he hates brushing so I didn't. His puppyness is definitely gone. I wouldn't do it if you don't want to do it. Baxter is totally gray and gold now. His hair is starting to grow back pretty fast. |
Aawww ... he is just soo cute ..... ;) Maya had a 'scruffy Look' too ... don't worry - I think they all do at one point !!! |
All the babies are adorable as they are. Hot Rod got his first groom at about 5 1/2 mos. We'd had him for about a month and 1/2 by then. |
Aww so precious!! Bandit my baby is 14 weeks old and we have had him groomed twice already....petsmart offers a puppy grooming where they dont cut the hair other than trim the ears, the hair on the butt, his dodaloo lol, and his paws then of course trim his nails. they bathe them and brush them. Its a total tranformation on his coat when they do this...and the puppy grooming is only $15. Bandit had horrible matts in his hair and when we got to petsmart the only lady we let touch him said she wanted to keep him a bit longer and get the matts out....all the other groomers was saying your gonna have to shave him and she said NO I'LL GET THEM OUT!! LOL how awesome is that...needless to say we gave her a good tip. But you do not have to cut the hair is what im saying....the puppy hair is so cute. I dont want it to go away lol. Good Luck!!:D:D |
If your baby is scruffy then mine is DEFINITELY scruffy!!! HA!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE all the wild hair around Mufasa's nose.......it's so crazy that you can barely see his eyes! HA! He doesn't really like to be brushed though so that can be a little bit of a challenge but no matter how much I brush him he looks scruffy. Mufasa's legs and feet look REALLY scruffy. How do I get the fur to be smooth or can I even do that? On the top of Mufasa's head he has a lot of gray.......it looks like my mother-in-laws bad root job. HA HA HA!!! |
All the pics posted of the "scruffy babies" are so cute. It makes me long for Baby Chloe's crazy puppy hair.:) As long as all your shots are up to date, I think it is fine to do it whenever you are ready.:) |
I miss the baby hair but don't miss chasing Oz around with the brush everyday :D (and I KNOW he doesn't miss it !) He got cut 2 weeks ago and I need to trim his bangs again already, figures because I want to keep it short it grows like weed..if i wanted him in full coat it wouldn't grow at all! :p |
You have to love that scruffiness! I was wondering the same thing since my Kobe is 10 weeks. He's not out of control yet but I just wanted to know for my own information. I asked at the vet (we go to Banfield at Petsmart) and the nurses said you can take them whenever you want just as long as they have their rabies shot. Either way if cutting it is gonna make it change then I'll let go for now since I love that puppy hair! |
If you plan to get him regularly groomed, I think it is a good idea to go when they are really young just to get hime used to someone else handling him. For the first visit maybe you could just do a face/eye trim or the hair between the toes or clip the nails-something quick and easy. I waited too long to go for my first visit and Ziggy had a very hard time. The groomer told me he was the worst dog she ever tried to groom, that i"d waited too long for his first grooming and that no one would ever be able to get near him-he was only 5 1/2 months old. I was mortified and felt like the worst mom, like I had neglected him or something. He was scared and kept crying becausethe groomer was rough. I waited until December (six months later) before I felt able to trust taking him to another groomer and boy did I ever grill her about her methods. She was wonderful, a great dog person and said she couldn't understand why a qualified groomer would have said such a thing to me. Part of their job is to know how too handle and reassure frightened animals. This new groomer works out of an old dingy basement shop, not the fancy salon like I first went to, and I wouldn't trade her for anything. You could check with groomers to see if they will do a few quick/cheap trims-this way you get to know the groomer as well. |
TOO CUTE.... don't cut yet. I'm having the same dilema with Tiki; at 12 weeks the hair on her head has kind of a "punk" look with black tips and silver roots. But, this puppy stage passes so quickly, I want to enjoy it as long as I can. I just keep her clean, brushed and smelling great, and I trim hair off her foot pads and around her bottom. I'm not even trimming ear tips, cause I'm loving her ears down. I'm more used to that look on my mini Schnauzers, who I groom. I'll eventually be grooming Tiki after a few professional hair cuts, and she'll probably end up with the modified Schnauzer look. |
3 Attachment(s) When Bailey was a puppy - I combed her, but apparently the comb just went over the top of her fur. So, she was scruffy and matted. At 4 mos - she went for her first groom and unfortunately, it was a shave. My puppy was gone!!! Here's her before, after and current pics. Her ears (rather large ears) stood up within a week after her shave. lol. :) |
I'm just going to GRIN:D and bear it! I would really love Mika to have long flowing locks! I think they look cute anyway with their scruffy puppy look!!! |
1 Attachment(s) Brooklyn is pretty scruffy looking right now too. I just keep her trimmed up. I like putting her on the grooming table as often as i can to get her used to it. She is getting better about tolerating it. I hope she will eventually let me do a topknot, right now she isnt having it! Little Stinker! I make sure to brush her every night. she doesnt matt much at all, which is a surprise because she and Oliver play so rough! I think Scruffy is cute!! Your guy is adorable! Here is Brooklyn in her scruffy suit!:D |
4 Attachment(s) also here is a pic before and after Snickers. He was 5 months and they cut it.. a little to short in my opinion.. but its growning back now :) the first 2 are befor his cut.. and the last 2 after.. But i thought after his cut his hair is much better .. it came back in my opinion a little thicker.. |
Ooooohh I just want to kiss that cute little scruffy face! He's adorable!! Sweet little face. I took Elvis for his first grooming, which was really just an introductory to grooming for him, not much done, just getting him used to be handled by someone else...his ears did get plucked though, which they needed it. He was about 5 months old then...he's due for another visit however.:D |
1 Attachment(s) Aww I think he looks adorable!! :animal36 Here is a pic of Koda when he was about 4 mos old. He had the scruffy look going too :p |
1 Attachment(s) I think Zoeybear was about 5 mo here. Her head is as round as a ball. |
