Ramsey and Reese...quite literally ignored Reggie when we brought him home. Actually Ramsey told Reese to ignore him...and since she's the big sister...that's what they did. It finally dawned on them...Reggie's "mother" was never coming to get him...he was here to stay. |

Other than the initial sniff introduction....for 3-4 days...he was totally completely ignored. And I mean...noses in the air...not paying attention to you kid ignore. Reese caved first...he couldn't take the temptation not to play with Reggie any longer. They run, pounce, bite, wrestle ALL the time. Ramsey will play occasionally...but it's on her terms. Reggie begs Ramsey to play with him...sometimes she will and sometimes she says...git outta here..I'm not playing with you kid. Her actions toward him are not aggressive...she will make growly noises at him...or mouth him sometimes but I see it as she is correcting him or letting him know...she isn't interested. I have seen Ramsey and Reese get into a fight....a real one...and there is a very obvious difference. |
It all takes time,. my other babies didnt accept snickers for 3 or 4 weeks.. my female dog she is 12 cannot be bothered by his pyppy behavior,. but she plays sometime with him. And my other dog.. he is a boy,. HE LOVES Snickers. they are now really the bestest buddys ! ;) i thought in the beginning that they never would liked snickers.. but when i didnt pay attention one day, zorro was suddenly playing with snickers very slowly.. and zazou has her moments when she want to play. she plays a little rough sometimes. :) |
We had Alyssa for 3 years as our only furbaby. Then we added Emmy. Alyssa was always very protective of me and very possessive. She pretty well ignored Emmy. After awhile she decided that Emmy was here to stay and was not going away. She began growling at her and bossing her and making sure she knew how to act. This went on for a long time. Finally we decided to get Lucy who was l0 months old at the time. Emmy loved Lucy from the very beginning. She thought she had a baby and Lucy was that baby. Alyssa went on ignoring everybody. She acted like she was still the only child. She would bring me toys to play fetch with her. She had no idea how to play with toys with another dog. She growled and made sure that she was the boss. She had no plans to be replaced. It has been 4 months now. We have had several fights but they all involve Lucy or Emmy getting too close to me or over food. Alyssa is food aggressive. I usually end the fights with the girls getting time out. Last time Alyssa and Emmy brought blood. I had to bathe both girls. Lucy jumped in to fight on Emmy's side. That has been about a week ago. Alyssa is trying to play with Lucy. She just does not know how to play with another dog. Lucy wants more than anything to play with Alyssa. Alyssa will now get Lucy's favorite toy and "kill it" and make Lucy bark for it. She will then walk away and let her have it. Just last week Alyssa and Lucy slept all night in an unlocked crate with each other. So give it time. It takes a lot of time for some of our furbabies to realize they are not being replaced. I still try to give each girl some special one on one time. Alyssa loves that and I call her my "big brown eyed girl." |
Update on our situation... Brought baby Miss Rosie home from work tonight, PRAYING that the other 3 loves of my life (DH, Bugsy, Miss Daisy) Miss Rosie, and I would make progress tonight.... We did!! Now, Miss Daisy and Bugsy did not welcome her with open arms, BUT they also did not try to kill her.....and even allowed her to play with their toys...They were almost ambivilent to her....I'll take that over aggression any day! We are moving forward!!! So now, Baby Rosie is in her pen, Bugsy is happy next to Daddy, and Miss Daisy is lying next to me while I type on the computer...God, please help everyday be better than the last!! We might just get through this!! ..I have a friend who has German Shepards, and has had (and tearfully lost) several over the years...brought an Alaskan Husky girl home about 4 months ago, brought her to work every day for about 2 months (she is a coworker--we are so lucky our boss lets us bring our fuzzy babies to work!!) and I was talking to her tonight about our situation...and she said "can you imagine when I brought Coco home?? and every night when I brought her back the others were like--You had your chance!!---how come you brought her back?? Why are skin mommies soooooo dumb!!! and yet, they are now all okay...She told me tonight, it would take about 2-3 weeks, but with tonight's accomplishments, maybe we will be one big happy family sooner than later! Keep us in your thoughts please!!! |
I have the same problem, Peanut is three and tigger is 5mths old. I think Peanut is jealous and thinks tigger is somehow going to replace her. I hear its better to get opposite sex, they get along better. Unless your Peanut and your a total queen and all you want is the house to yourself...hehehe...she is totally spoiled. |
Yea, I would just give it time. My Cola has finally befriended a pomchi and a pitbull. He used to hate them for taking mommy's attention but they play so well now. I dunno if this helps but i would sometimes seat them together and try to calm them down by giving them each one treat at a time. I guess I was trying to let them know that they both have my equal attention or something. The pomchi is my sister's dog and now every morning, he'll sit outside my sister's door waiting for the pomchi to come out and play. lol. Anyway, hope that helps. |
So last night was a little better, my Pom Bugsy allowed Rosie to kiss him, and shared his toys (a big deal for him!) Daisy pretty much ignored her, but is not grr grring her anymore. (Thank God! That was scary!!) This morning Daisy came into the guest room where Rosie and I were sleeping on the floor (Rosie in her crate) and snuggled up next to me and gave me kisses... Maybe we will all be one big happy family soon?? :ghug: |
Miss Rosie has been home now for a whole week, Daisy and Bugsy seem to be getting used to her, they even let her run circle 8's round and around their feet.. ...looking forward to when they all run and play together, like they have been best friends forever.. |
Great!! :) |
