lost my Coco during surgery to repair broken leg... Hello. I am new to Yorkietalk and am looking to connect with any other yorkie owners who have experienced mending of a broken leg and/or problems with anesthesia. I lost my beautiful Coco, who was just about to turn 2yrs old, this past Monday. My vet and the orthopedic surgeon could not give a definitive answer as to why she died, except that her heart just stopped beating at the end of the surgery as they were closing up the incision. She was in excellent health before the surgery!!! Coco leaves behind little sister, Sasha, who is 19months old is very lonely and depressed. Her mommy and family miss her so. I feel like my heart has been ripped out!! We just can't accept that she is gone and need to find the real reason why. |
I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope those of us here can help you heal. Welcome to the board! |

Oh no !! I'm so sorry ! That's awful for you and I can't believe setting a leg caused this - I know that's why everyone worries so much about these little ones going into surgery - did they do the bloodwork first ?? Bless your heart - I'm so sorry for your loss |
I am so very sorry for your loss. :( |

First off i would like to welcome you to YT...you will finds tons of great people and info on here. And I am so sorry for your loss. i can't imagine losing one of my own furkids...i would be devastated... I have heard story about little dogs going under and never come to it...like during a spayed/neutered surgery...i hope someone on here can ease your pain tell you their experience. |
I am so sorry about the loss of your precious baby. Sometimes these babies will die unexpectedly while under anesthesia or when coming out of the anesthesia. Sometimes a blood clot will form and cause a heart attack. I am sure your vet did all they could, sadly sometimes these things just happen. (((hugs))) |

What a sad welcoming it is for you. This is so tragic!!! I'm so very, very sorry you lost your little fur-girl this way. Generally they do some testing before any surgery to see if they have any complications. Hugs going out to you and your family. |
I don't have an answer as to why God took her home, did they do blood work before the surgery? If so, did it all check out ok? I'm so very sorry for you and your families loss, my heart goes out to you. I've never lost one during surgery but I have had to make the choice to help two of our furkids to Rainbow Bridge and it hurt. Hopefully in time you'll be able to smile when you think of her instead of crying. My thoughts and prayers are with you. |

My head is just spinning now...   I am just so incredibly sorry for your loss hun...I honestly don't know what to say...my heart is just breaking into a million pieces for you. I am so sorry for your loss. My lulu 2yrs ago had fractured her hip and had to have surgery. They could not complete the surgery because her heart had stopped beating toward the end. I was fortunate that the vet stopped immediately and was able to bring her back. Because her surgery could not be completed she has a severe limp. But I am so grateful to have her here with me. You are in my thoughts and prayers. LuLu, Bosley Beamer, & Baby Zoey's Mommy |
I am so sorry for your loss:( This scares me to death. Our fragile little dogs, and feeling like would be ok, and then she passess, Brings tears to my eyes:( |

How big is your Tatum? Coco was 3.8lbs. My Sasha is 2.3lbs.....we held off on getting her spayed. I will never due subject her to aneshesia |
Oh Im so sorry for your loss. RIP sweet little Cocoa. Anesthesia in little dogs can be so hard. You just never know how they would react and them being so little they have not a lot of defenses to it. Im so sorry for the loss of your baby though. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, including your baby who is missing her sister. |
I am so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately some of us on here know the heartache that goes with losing a baby. I was glad to read that you did have the blood work done. That is soooo important. With Tina I decided not to have it done because she had just had a complete check-up the week before. When they got in there to spay her she almost bled to death because we were unaware that she had Von Willebrands disease. Coming so close to losing her now I always have the blood work done on all of them. Again I am so sorry. We just never know. Hope time helps to heal the heartache because nothing seems to help when you are going through the pain. |
Thank you EVERYONE! Thank you ALL for your very kind words. I am so fortunate to have found YT!! Maybe Coco has guided me to you all. I just pray that she forgives us for making the decision to do the surgery. I can't get the expression on her trusting little face( as I dropped her off at the vet Monday morning) out of my mind!!! |

I hope your Tina is in good health and she is around to love you for a long, long time! |
Oh, Honey! You have to let go of that guilt. I know it's easier said than done, but you were being the best mommy to her you could be. I think it's safe to say that we would have all done much the same thing in your shoes. (((((hugs))))) and hug your other little one today (what is her name?). She needs you now more than ever. |

Coco's little sister is Sasha. It's pittiful how she looks for Coco, especially in the morning when I'm handing out the "good girl" cookies. She's getting extra attention...It's hard to heal her heart when mommy and daddy's are broken....but we're doing our best. |
