To Those With Male Babies... I am really wanting a male yorkie...I have two daughters and my female fur baby...so I really want another male in my home and I know my husband does too. LOL! So my question and concern is them "marking" their territory. Do they "mark" everything? Are they harder to housebreak? Please just give me any opinions or info that you might have. THANKS!! |
I own two males. The oldest is 1 1/2 years...he does not mark...meaning tinkle a little over everywhere. Reese was neutered at 6 months. He has just started cocking his leg. I have no issues with him going inside my house. Reggie, my baby at 5 1/2 months...is a marker. He will potty a little everywhere outside. He hasn't been neutered yet. I have a female...she marks. I see no difference in difficulty potty training. I love my Ramsey girl...but after owning males and a female my preference is male. :) When I was searching for a biewer to add to Ramsey and Reese...I was only interested in a male. |
I got my Oliver first, then my Brooklyn, Oliver has been such a good boy, no marking, whatsoever. He is the reason for Brooklyn! I had him fixed early, 5 mos. old and he never really learned the whole marking thing. As for potty training, he did great! Very smart boy. We did paper at first, then moved to outside, when the weather got warmer. Go for it, you wont be sorry! Good Luck!:D |
Guinness is neutered and I've not seen him mark, he is a squatter to pee. He just humps his bed and pillow CONSTANTLY so we wash them quite often *barf* |

And Reggie...well Reg...has Reese to love on. don't let that deter you either. Some females do this also. |
I dont know if they are harder than girls because I have had 3 boys and no girls... I can say, I have 1 boy who is fixed and never marks. I have another boy who is not fixed and does mark. I keep a diaper on him. Im going to get him fixed soon though so Im sure the marking will stop once hes fixed. Oh yeah and my boys never hump anything. Once in a blue moon Dexter will climb on Fletcher (the fixed boy climbs on the not fixed boy) and becomes a lazy 2 pump chump. (dominance I think but its only like 2x then he goes away) LOL Other than that, no humping in my house! I love the little gentlemen! They are the greatest! :) Good Luck with your search! |
I have two boys and I adore them. I can't imagine any sweeter or more loving little dogs! Max was neutered when he was 6 mos...he's never marked and he was pretty easy to house train; he goes outside. Madison is 2 yrs old, I adopted him and he wasnt' neutered. He marked a LOT when he first got here (but it calmed down a lot after he'd been here awhile ...he came here on March 20th). I just had him neutered 2 days ago, so I'm praying the marking will stop, but if it doesn't, I have belly bands for him (although need to make BIGGER ones b/c he's gained so much weight since he's been here:)). I always wanted a little girl, but this just happened, and I am absolutely content with the way things worked out. I love mah boys:D. |
I have 2 boys, both neutered and they BOTH mark. I think it's a dominance thing. But I still prefer boys over girls. |
Un-neutered males will mark. Funny, Dallas marked when he was younger and he will still mark if someone is in heat...but ordinarily, he no longer marks...THANK GOD! During the marking phase, I thought for sure I was going to wrap a rubber band around his weiner! At least I wanted to! |
Did someone say BELLY BANDS???!!! :D |
I have a male yorkie that is about 15 weeks old. We have had him for 5 weeks and in that time we have come a long way! i dont think there would be any difference between a male and female... its individual to every dog. Buffalo does not mark at all. I would definatly say if you have the home, open it up to a little man... and good luck! |

I'm still holding out hope that he'll stop it in awhile since he was just neutered. Hopefully it just takes time to get all those "gotta pee" hormones out of their system, LOL. |
We had Spike neutered young and he has never marked- has never even lifted his leg to potty. I got Sugar as an intact adult and he marked like crazy. After neutering he stopped marking in the house but does mark outside. I also have a little girl. IMO boys are the BEST! Spike is my daughter's and he loves everyone but he is so loyal to her. You can read my signature to see how I feel about Sugar.:D At my house at least the boys are the little lovebugs and lapdogs. Gracie, our female, is not a lapdog by any stretch of the imagination. She gets indignant at the mere hint of babytalk.:p ETA- I just recently learned here at YT that intact females will mark. Gracie is spayed but she feels the need to potty about a million times while on walks so I guess she is marking. The boys don't go on walks so I don't know what they would do. |
I love them both, but little boys seem so much more devoted. If not fixed though they are usually always markers and that's a pain. It's best to get them fixed earlier than later. Sometimes once they start - they don't stop. Personalities are great!! My boy follows me EVERYWHERE - even to the bathroom. LOL |
