May Be A Dumb Question But........
 

What exactly is a belly band? I know it's for males, and Rocco is my first male and will be 4 months on the 16th. Is this something I need to get him?? Must sound like such a DUMB question!!!

A Belly Band is a piece of fabric resembling a short belt. It fits around your male's "belly" and usually fastens on the top of the back with velcro. Some have a pocket to put an additional pad to absorb any results from marking or urinating. It is a wonderful training tool to get your boys to go outside (you take it off when you let them of out) and to keep them from marking in your home. Some studs pretty much need to wear them all the time when in the house! I just ordered some two months ago, and love them!!!! =)

Yep, exactly what the other person said. I got started using them b/c my adopted male Madison is an adult (2 yrs old) and not neutered. I have a male already who was neutered when he was a puppy and he's never marked. When Madison got here, he marked EVERYWHERE (and still will if I"m not looking), and my dh was ready to shoot us both.

They're really great IF you need them. If your dog doesn't mark, like Max, you don't really need them. Although, I think that they will come in handy when we go to any friends homes who have dogs there too.....before I got Madison, we took Max to a friend's house for a SuperBowl party and he had some other friends who had brought their little unneutered male Yorkie....as soon as I put Max down, their little guy immediately ran over and lifted his leg on my friend's upholstered club chair and white carpet:eek:!

And later on, I saw a puddle in FRONT of the chair....I didn't SEE who did it, but for some reason, I thought Max may have done it, so I can see where it would be a good thing to have for both my dogs if we're in that same situation again. It's just a territorial thing with them, and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Madison will be neutered on Tuesday and I'm PRAYING I won't need them as much as I do now, but if you need to use them, I have been using Poise pantiliners with them b/c they tend to pull the wetness away from their skin, and since I'm home all day, I check it frequently and change when needed.

Oh..and it's NOT a dumb question; I had NO idea what they were or what they were for til I had Madison. Necessity is the mother of invention.

i got the kind you put the sanitary napkin in for Mr. Snickers because he lifts his leg wherever he can. if i'm not going to be home for a few hours on goes the bellyband. it doesn't bother him at all. the woman who makes them has 5 males (none are neutered) and they all wear the bellybands unless they are going outside.:animal36

SORRY MELANIE that I didn't say it wasn't a DUMB QUESTION. Of course, IS WASN'T A dumb question - we all need input. I just posted a thread asking about using a litterbox, what litter is recommended to be SAFE! I hope that's what we're here for, to help, to ask to education ourselves to better Moms and Dads to our little ones.

Not a dumb question at all! Yes, they are great if you need them. If you don't have a marker you probably won't need them unless you take them to someone else's house as mentioned above. They always seem to want to mark in new places.

Here are pics of Koda and what his bellyband..aka www=wee wee wraps:D look like. We use them when we go to someones house or if there is a lot of people coming to our house as Koda likes to piddle when he gets super excited, lol!

Slade doesn't mark, but he does sometimes not let me need to know if he has to go potty. So if he's going to be out of his crate more than a few hours in row or if i'm doing something where i'm not keeping my eyes completely on him, I'll usually put one on him... usually he doesn't pee in it, but sometimes he does a little dribble or two and its just nice to know its not going on my floors!

What is that that you're using inside the wrap? And how long does it last? I think I'm going to go broke buying Poise pads before Madison gets neutered, LOL! I've been using two at a time (layering one at the top and one at the bottom) and then just replacing one or both when they get soiled.

Oh no worries!! Thanks so much for all the input!! Iv'e never had a boy before so I have no idea what it was about!! I've seen pics and stuff, but never really investigated....

Now if Rocco goes potty inside, on the pee pad most of the time (The dogs are not left outside while we are at work) is it still as effective? This is only to avoid "marking" in the house yes?? And after he is fixed will I still need it??

Ok so I'm full of questions.....

How can you tell they are "marking" and not just "peeing" ?? I am SO not familiar with all these BOY things!!!! Rocco doesn't lift his leg yet (sure he is too young)

I also see boy dogs at the dog park that lift their leg to what I think is to "pee" and nothing comes out!! Their parents always say "he shoots blanks"!! What???? Is that what happens after they are fixed?? Sorry for all the questions!!

You will only need it if he continues to mark or pee in the house where you don't want it. Marking is when they are lifting their leg on anything vertical, but only peeing a little bit. Peeing, well I think you know what that is :D... Anyway it will work for either one. Hopefully he won't mark after neutering, but there is still that possibility.

Yes I do know what peeing is, :) however, he just kinda stretches out low to the floor when he pees,and I can't really see the volume...for the most part he has been pretty good, and gone on the pee pad, but he does have accidents. He is only 15 weeks old, so totally understandable... The nice thing is that Roxi seems to be training him on where to go potty better than us!! lol He follows her to the potty pad!!
