Huge yorkies??? I just took Carter to the vet for his last round of shots at 14 weeks and he's already 6 pounds! The vet says he guesses Carter will be 12-15 pounds full grown. Is that a huge yorkie?? Is my baby going to be an abnormally large dog?? |
AWWW All the more to love. I think we have one or two that are even close to 20 or more pounds. I say as long as they are healthy;). |
Big Boned Yorkie My cousin has a full-blooded AKC registered Yorkie and tops the scales at 20lbs. |
Lol I guess thats a good way of looking at it. He's just soo cute this size I wish he'd stay this way foreverr!! |
It does sound like your Carter is going to be a bigger Yorkie. Like Lori (daisy mae06) said "All the more to love". My Rudy was 4 lbs something @ 8 weeks old and now he's at least 15 lbs, probably more cause he hasn't been weighed in a while. BTW, I think the name Carter is really cute. :):aimeeyork I've never heard that for a dog before. |
Preston was around 6 lbs when we got him at 5 months. He is now 10 1/2 months and weighs 13 lbs. His size was the reason he was at the rescue where we got him, as he was supposedly "unsaleable". I wouldn't have him any other way! Like others said, more to love. |

However, in reality I think your looking at about 12-15lbs like the vet said. Bud was the same weight at 14 weeks and today he's 15lbs but solid as a rock. All muscle. Look on the bright side, you can't loose him.;) |

Aww i love the name Carter too  .. it reminds me of this hunk thats was in a film i once seen ;) LOL and funny enough liked the name ever since :p LOL hehe!! Bailey is 7months and 7.9lbs i think he will be about 10lbs full grown :) |
It may be big for a yorkie, but still small for a dog. The bigger ones are better around children too. |
More to cuddle with....My cousins Baby Ricco who is a healthy and beautiful baby is already at 14.5 lbs....He is the most adorable baby...Yorkies come in different sizes! They are all CUTE |
Read this thread about large Yorkies. There are some absolutely darling pics. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...apot-ears.html |
6 lbs at 14 weeks? oh boy!!!!!! my dog's half sister casey was the tiniest puppy when she first came home. actually she was smaller than mickey. half of him when she first came home. however, she's now close to 20 lbs while mickey is lingering around 9lbs. so it is possible to have a yorkie larger than the typical 7lbs. as long as your puppy's healthy, thats all it matters :) |
My yorkie is 11 lbs, and I love him to pieces!! His size is actually just perfect :) |
When you think about it, that's still small. Lucy is 2 and weighs 11 lbs. She was chunky though, and her vet put her on a diet, so she's down from 13 lbs. When we went to PetSmart last weekend, I realized just how small that is. Your little Carter may be above standard, but but being a little larger, you won't worry about him as much. Rebel weighs a little over 5 lbs and I worry about him constantly - he seems so delicate next to Lucy. |
