People think I'm crazy for for dressing Libby (my 60 pound pit bull) and my family in Germany can't even look at photos of her and my kids because it scares them! Pit bulls are monsters in Europe! They think I'm silly and crazy, and dumb for having her.

My dad shakes his head and huffs when he sees Scooter dressed up IN HARNESSES! I'm always so proud when I make a new one, and my dad makes me feel like a moron when it comes to that!

But you know what, these are our dogs, and we do have a right to make them feel and look loved. (Even if others think we are silly!)

Look at it this way: More people smile at our dogs then they "offend" us about our choices. Those who smile, count!

no ones ever said anything bad to me.. most of them just ask where I get my clothes from and say "awaaa" & how cute pebbles looks. if someone said something nasty.. and directly said it TO ME.. i would say something nasty back, honestly, because its none of their business and who are they to just go around randomly saying bad things to people!! and if someone said something loudly to their friend or whatever so i could hear it i would just give them an evil look and keep on walking, because me and my dog are way more fierce than they are anyway :p

I think the apparel that is sold for dogs should be limited to boots and coats. For indoors, if drafty, PJ's are welcome.

But to go out in public and subject yourself to people who don't understand, the answer is a big NO!

I know that dogs sense when people don't understand and are being made fun of. Because that's just the way dogs are. They sense things. Why subject them to negative feelings from other people who don't understand.

Yorkies are too special to confuse them.

P.S. Just for the record, I have a pet stroller because when I walk too far my little one gets tired so in he goes. People don't say anything because they don't know he's in there. Some do and I tell them "you carry him back." They shut up! My other Yorkie never get tired but if it's too hot, in he goes, too.

You will get negative feedback no matter what you do! My dogs wear boots because their feet get irritated from allergies. And I do get comments! Like, "do they have boots on?!" Yes, I say, and they ask Why? Because their little feet get sore and hot and whatever. Take your shoes off and walk and see how you feel! That usually shuts them up!

But dressing them up as you do, no way! You are exposing yourself to ridicule and making pet merchandisers rich! Except for coats and boots! Amen!

I have met lots of nice people who compliments how cute he is wearing his clothes and a few sarcastic people along the way. Yesterday, a lady just said to her friend, "Look her yorkie is wearing a coat because he is cold hohoho" without even looking at me in a not so nice way, very sarcastically. It wasn't even cold to begin with. Pao was just wearing an old cotton t-shirt because I like him to have a layer of protection from the sun or simply from the grass/woods whatever since his fur is short. I don't usually answer back, its just a waste of my time.. In that case, I just tell myself a person who laughs like a witch isn't worth my time.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE dog apparel...I own over 150 outfits for my dogs, mostly adorable dresses. I don't care what others think. I enjoy it, my dogs enjoy it...so that's all that matters. My boy used to dislike it at first, but he's realized quickly that brushing and getting dressed is attention for him and now he comes over to me like "it's my turn!" when we are getting ready. They love the attention they get from their adorable outfits. It's way too hot here for coats, and they hate shoes (although we've put them on for pictures before). But they like their cute shirts, dresses, and hair accessories.

Sometimes, having a thin layer of clothes or t-shirt on during summer helps to protect their skin from the sun if their fur is cut short. Some dogs have allergies to the surrounding/pollen do better with some clothes on. Other times, it is just for the furkid's Mommy's/Daddy's viewing pleasure :D

I def. get offended sometimes by rude ppl's comments but i got to the point that i don't even care anymore and figure they are the silly ones. Today something happened on the train as i was taking London to the vet. I had her in the dog carrier and this lady, who looked very unkept by the way kept looking at her. She finally asked me 'What is THAT??' I was taken aback a little because most ppl know she's a dog even tho she is tiny. So i responded with..'you mean what type of DOG is she?' and she said yes. So i told her then she asked if she will grow more , i said no,then she goes 'how much do those kind of dogs run you? how much did you pay?' Usually i think it's rude to ask that and say she was a gift or something but i figured to just be honest and i told her how much London was. OMG when i told her, this lady's face dropped. She goes "WHAT???!! That much for a DOG??? a DOGGG??' I said YES! And then she kept shaking her head and making noises. I don't even understand why she asked then. It's my money, i can do what i want with it. Those type of ppl i don't even want to have a dog, and i'll be completely honest and tell them it's expensive to take care of them, vet bills, supplies, etc. If they are still interested i will tell them where they can do research on them, if not they can keep walking. Some ppl are just plain rude and I don't understand them. But with the lady today me and my bf just shrugged it off and labeled her crazy:p I'm sorry but she looked very unkept like she didn't care about herself, how would she care for a dog? I hope she never gets one. This other lady stopped my bf and i on the street and was very interested in getting a Yorkie. We had a long convo and she was very nice, she said she knows how expensive they can be and her friend has told her who also has a dog. She was very interested and i was very honest with her and i told her about YT. Hopefully she checks it out. With those rude ppl i say just shrug them off, sometimes its good to say something smart back if they say something, sometimes it's not even worth it.

Too Dangerous! I, for one, wouldn't even answer.
 

Sometime, when our emotions get to the point where we confront people who may be dangerous. And to do it on a deadend road as you say is putting yourself in jeopardy! No way would I answer anyone, anywhere, because it can only escalate and it's not worth it!!!!!!!!

I agree with this. Lacy's hair is black on her back, and it gets so hot when the sun shines down on it. I feel like her having a light dress on covering her back actually helps to protect her and keep her slightly cooler than if she was naked. Her black hair gets so hot outside.

i honestly couldnt care less if dressing my dog is subjecting me to "ridicule" :rolleyes:... the possibility of ridicule has never stopped me from doing what i want--as long as im not hurting anyone (something THOSE PEOPLE should start living by). The way I see it, as long as me and my dog are happy, who cares what they think? dressing up my dog makes her look even more adorable... and she enjoys it. its attention and she thinks its fun and so do i! what i dont understand is why they would even care... its not like im trying to dress up their dog.

Well, they would have to catch me on the right day ... but it's possible. :D

For every single rude comment, I've found there are dozens of compliments about ones dog. When I walk Archie in our neighborhood, people literally pull over in their cars to tell me what a doll he is, ask questions about the breed, etc. He's quite the star in the neighborhood. I've even had people pull over and ask me if I'm interested in breeding him with their Yorkie (sorry, no equipment!). Most people are curious, nice and totally charmed by our babies' beauty and bounciness!

You're so right! That's why i just learned to shrug ppl that are rude off. More ppl compliment and say nice things so it makes up for it. How could someone not like our little cuties?? :p

Honestly a long time ago I learned not to give a darn what other ppl thought in regarding my dogs.

In my lifetime I've caught crap b/c I didn't have a purebred.. b/c I had purebred (although I rescued her, some ppl never believed it).. b/c I dressed my dogsn up.. etc.

I just learned not to give a darn. They are my dogs, and I love them with all my heart. I work HARD for my money and if i want to spend it dressing my dogs then whose business is it? mine.

I would be offended....These guys are our Kids and no one would allow another being to comment or make snide remarks about the children so why should we allow it for our dogs...SAY SOMETHING. I would be a smart alec and if they had kids with them I would be a bigger one....."At least I love my babies enough to have them look their best....which is more than what I can say about yours" that may get them to shut up.

i try to dress my puppies.. but gus gus keeps ripping the clothes off the other ones...but i will keep trying... i love the harness outfits.. they are not too showy.. and serve a purpose besides being cute.. forget the topknots for my gang.. i dont want their hair to fall out... to each his own.. who cares what other peoploe say.. at least you care enough to spend all that time caring for your babies... and if your puppies like it, go for it..:):animal36:animal36

I don't know about your yorkies, but my yorkies could care less about what strangers in public think about them. I've raised them to know that they ARE God's gifts, and that they are above a lot of humans :)
You can have your reasons as to why your yorkies needs boots and a stroller, we'll have our reasons as to why our dog needs clothes. My girl is 3lbs, and doesn't have hair. The vet has told me to always keep something on her, it can be 70* and if she's outside in the shade she gets chilly! So should I make her freeze just because some random person we encounter on our walk will think she looks silly? My boy, he does have hair and is a little bit bigger, but he LOVES clothes, and he doesn't feel right walking around naked while everyone else (me, my fiance, and my girl) are all clothed! Would you want to walk around naked while everyone else is clothed? I don't think so. And unless it's cold outside, my babies really don't need boots, but maybe yours does? Each yorkie is different. A stroller? Someone can easily shoot back at you "why can't the dog walk?" I don't have anything against boots or strollers, I'm just reminding you that even things you find practical, others may not, but that doesn't give anyone a right to make rude comments about what we do for our babies, rather that be a tank top, a cute holiday dress, or a stroller.
So I'll keep going out in public with them, WITH their clothes on! You have your reasons as to why you use items that aren't a norm for most dogs, so let us on here have reasons to dress our babies!

One more thing I just wanted to say while on were on this whole topic, I'm sure all of our yorkies are dressed better than these people who feel the need to make rude comments about dogs in clothes!
