I Have a Whole New Respect For the police in our city. I am usually the one who shows their a$$ when a dog is left in someones car to shop. I am outside yesterday on the parking lot and hear an awful crying noise coming from an old mini van a few rows over. Of course I'm on it:cool:..It was a little Rat Terrier with his nose sticking out a 2 in crack in the window..oh uh uh. I went inside and got the cop on duty (usually they won't do anything). While we were checking the dog out the owner comes out and jokingly says "watch it, he'll take your arm off". The cop was not amused and interupted him saying this was animal abuse and he could arrest him on the spot. The guy starts throwing names around of different cops that said it was legal. The cop said he could name all the names he wanted but it was against the law and another word he would be arrested if he didn't leave right then. So he left. Of course I was right there for the whole thing cause I wanted to be sure something was done. The cop turned to me and reminded me I saw the whole thing and that he didn't get out of line with the man. Do people really complain about things like that to superiors? Anywho, It really made me feel good that I actually found a policeman that cared about these things. It's already hot here in Texas and this won't be the first occurance at my work, but rest assured Gizmo's Mom is on the job.;) |
Congratulations to you for "doing something" to help that poor little fella locked in the hot car. And a big thumbs up the the police officer who was willing to "go out on a limb" to help. What a timely reminder with warmer weather here that it is very dangerous and cruel to leave dogs and/or any living being in a parked car with the windows up. Hugs to you for making a difference in that Rat Terrier's life. :ghug: |

Love to Hear this stuff ....hubby is in law enforcement and it is nice to hear someone give these guys an atta boy.... |
If it was very hot and the dog was left in the car for a long time, Cudos to you. But remind me not to go around where you are at. LOL I'm Guilty of leaving Kitty in the car when I go to pick something up. I would hate for someone to get the cops just because I left her in the car for 4mins because she wasn't allowed in the building (on cooler days). |
Good for you and that policeman!!! |
Good for you and that policeman. Yes, unfortunately if someone complains about an officer, the officer is in fact put thru the wringer until he is proven innocent. My brother is an officer in NYC and I have heard stories from him and other police that is so outrageous it would be funny if it weren't so ridiculous. People complain if there is no officer around, but yet those people are the first to criticize when something is done. I know that I couldn't do their job and I am thankful when they do theirs. |
I have to say i always leave Bailey in the car if he is not able to come into a shop with me, he falls asleep on the seat BUT i do live in cold Newcastle UK where it rains NON STOP!! I would never leave him in the car if it was a hot day. I have my little doggy bag in the car full of toys, lead, bottle of water, bowl, treats and loads more. I start my new job on monday going around to peoples homes to help them get up or make them lunch, i want to take him with me he loves the car and its really cold here so no chance he will get to hot. i live in the middle of the country side with lovely walks e.c.t hehe i cant wait. better to be in a cold car with mummy seeing you every 30mins to drive to the next house than to be at home alone :D I do agree tho no dog should be left in a hot car. |
Good for you, Special Canine Officer Judy. |

That is something that really ticks me off. The heat here in Texas is already hot and I can't believe these people could be that non caring or just plain stupid. Maybe they need to be left in a hot car and see what its like not to be able to breathe and die a horrilbe death. Next to that is people that put their dogs in a pick-up in the back on that hot medal and it a 110 outside. What the heck is wrong with these people's mentality. |
A big THANK YOU to you and Officer Dawg!!!:animal36 |
Great Job....you & the Officer deserve thanks! :thumbs upKay & Jaxon |
Good for you and the police officer!! I admit that I used to leave 3 of dogs in the car (when it was mild out, not hot) and just run in and get something at the grocery store. But then I heard of a lot of crash & grabs where someone's toy dogs were stolen and then resold. I would never forgive myself if I came out and my babies were gone because I was too lazy to drop them off at home! I thought "Would I leave $6500 sitting on the back seat of my car?", Of course not! So why should I leave my babies since that is what they are worth in the market! Just a thought for those who still leave them in the car, just for a few minutes... |
