I am really worried about how some mebers are asking for emergency help.

In scary occurances i understand that we all want to come here and post for help. But i feel IMPO that it's best to call your vet or take your dog in ASAP.

There are some very educated members here that do know alot but they are not there to look at your dog see how it's acting and most are not vets. While one person can say oh it looks like a rash your fine when in fact it is something life threatning.

If it is serious enough to post about using titles such as Help 911, Emergency please help anything like that then i IMPO belive it's prob emergency enough to GO TO THE VET!!

Allthough some members may have had the same type of situatuion as you it's important to go to your vet to get a diagnosis before asking for help. I think it's great if after the vet you come on and post your experiance for others to learn from.

I am not starting this thread because of anyone thread i am just worried that a dog may die waiting for thier owner to get an answer from someone online:(

When Peeka got the Bully stuck in his mouth i didn't come on and say OMG Please 911 what do i do i ran him to my vet immidiatly and then posted the story later. I am just so worried about some of the dogs Please take them to the vets only they can tell you for sure what is the matter.

well said amber... there have been times where i have felt like posting... WHY aren't you at the vet? not that we are judging and saying people can't make educated decisions but i'd rather someone call a vet for an opinion then sit around here and hope that someone knows what to do.

i try to help the breeders. In fact I have been pm'ing one back and forth for the last little while with an emergency. That is totally different and often with whelping, there is no need to rush to the vet unless it is a real emergency BUT, some of this other stuff we have been seeing on here is riduclous. if the animal is sick it needs to go to the doctor. If my dog is sick, I, like you, take it to the vet and post later.if I post at all.

:thumbup::thumbup:Great post!!! I have noticed lately alot of calls for help!! I would call a vet first, even if it has to be en emergency vet as this is all a part of being a breeder. The information on YT is great, dont get me wrong, but going to a vet for hands on evaulation is the best choice. I dont post veterinary help because I am not a vet or vet tech and I would feel horrible if I gave out the wrong advice. Its best to be prepared, educated and already have notified your vet BEFORE you breed!! Pre whelping vet exams should already have been done as well.

I understand where you are coming from, however I wonder if maybe some people dont have the money right then and are trying to get help for their baby the only way they can at the moment. Most vets (around here anyway) do not accept payment plans, you have to pay the entire bill before treatment and if you dont have it you dont have it.... not saying thats the case everytime but it could be a possibility;)

Sometimes it's hard to know exactly when to call the doctor. Obviously, certain things, choking, not breathing, unconsciousness, broken bones, severe pain, and bleeding all say emergency, however other things can be more confusing, and titles given to a threads are to prompt others to read immediately. Many YT members are first time dog owners, and this may be the first time in their lives they have been responsible for another being. Going to an emergency room can be a very expensive and time consuming process, and some people may feel the need for more experienced people to tell them it's the right thing to do. Sometimes family members might even be telling them that it's not serious and to wait for vet normal hours. This sort of thing is always more difficult on these long weekends when our regular vets office is closed. Hopefully, everyone has an emergency number to call with an educated person to answer the question: "Should I bring my dog to the emergency room?" I'm just so glad so many people take the advice and take their dog's to the vets.
