Not at all Amber I know where you are coming from... |

It is Sunday...in the town I live in there is no emergency vet. I would literally have to travel for an hour or more to find a vet that is open Sundays...nights...or holidays. So yes, I may be one of those, someday, that would come here looking for help...for advice. Obviously, if it were an immediate life or death situation...I would attempt to make that long drive with a bleeding or unconscious dog. But it would probably be too late. |

Amber Amen.......sister!!!!!!!!!! Great post! |
I agree with this post. Sometimes the vet is just the best thing if you don't know. I cannot offer advice-as I am still new to this. But, have already been to the vet 3 times in 2 weeks :p. Oh well-just an overprotective momma... |
well said Amber. I agree! When someone asks, should I be concerned if my yorkie hasn't pee'd today? I can see asking that.. But when someone says, my dog is dragging it's legs! Should I call a vet? WELL DUH!! The vet would have been my FIRST thought, NOT my COMPUTER! |
Amber, thank you for posting that. I was just thinking the other day that the LAST thing I would do in an emergency with one of my boys is get on the internet! I would be on the phone to the vet or AT the vet with them!! Having said that, I don't want to discourage anyone from posting with questions or concerns. But, if it's URGENT, take them to the vet and then post about it later. I sometimes am afraid to answer for fear of giving them bad advice, since I'm not there to actually see what's going on. It's better to take them where they can get the care and help they need. I couldn't agree with you more!:) |

While I agree that the vet should be the first call so often, I can't judge why it's not in many instances. What I like to see is people encouraging a vet call or visit while being supportive ("Please call your vet immediately and let us know what he says"). What I don't like to see is people being judgemental with their first reply ("Why in the world would you come online for help? What were you thinking? For heaven's sake, call your vet!"). I can't imagine how that would make someone in crisis feel. :( ..... JMO |

I totally agree with your statement |
I can only speak for myself and how I feel and the way I am. With me, when I think there's something wrong with one of my furkids or skin kids and it's serious, I don't come here and ask questions first, I get to the doc or vet ASAP and then come back here and talk about it. Granted, I did post here a few days ago asking for help for my sister when Coco was vomiting and she told me he had eaten a plant but wasn't sure if he swollowed it, but my FIRST ADVICE to her was, "get Coco to the vet NOW!" I do get irritated at times when I read some things on here where something is wrong with a furkid, I'm reading through it thinking to myself, go to the vet NOW!!! But then I also have to realize as others have said, this could be a first time furkid owner and they may not really know if it's serious, or perhaps they don't have the funds right now to take their furbaby in and have the vet check them and are perhaps reaching out for whatever help any of us can give them. I know many of us have such deep love and compassion for our furkids and it's easy to get irritated when someone comes on asking for help and we're the ones on the other end thinking, get to the vet NOW, but lets not forget people, we've never walked in these other peoples shoes personally, they may have other things going on like perhaps their vehicle could be down and they're embarrassed to say that, maybe we're their only means of any kind of help they can get. If people post asking for help or emergency help and you know the answer, great, help, if you don't know the answer, that's fine to, but I know I sure wouldn't wanna make anyone feel like they couldn't come here and post and ask for help no matter how big or little the problem is. I think it's our duty to educate people about the proper care of all furbabies and help however we're able. If that simply means saying, this is serious, get to the vet NOW if you're able, then so be it, we've helped educate one more person and perhaps saved a furkids life. A person could be new to all this and what is an emergency to one may not be to another.... |
I agree!! I was on YT when bailey had his first fit.. i did not post about it till after!!! I phoned the vet and took him stright there ... i even left the computer on and the tv just picked him up and got in my car!! ONLY when i got home i was upset and needed some one to tell me a little more about it and it felt good to know bailey is not the only one who has them! I have to say i have NO MONEY what so ever, i have no job (start on next monday) and i am finding it hard to even pay normal bills around the house! but no matter what if my furbaby needed to go the vet i would take him without thinking twice. As dog owners thats what we have to do, as that dog is in OUR care and in getting a dog we made that choice! I have seen some threads too of late and sometimes i do wonder why they are not at the vets... but i also understand about people not having enough money, as i myself is in the same boat, but i would always make sure that my furbaby goes to the vet if he is not very well, or even phone them. even now when bailey has a fit i phone them. he has been the vet about 8 times in the last month eeek!! due to his fits and him having his manhood off lol.. ok wow what a rant i've done.. great post amber :D |
