"Taken" on a "Teacup" Well, I am a brand new Yorkie Mom. And, I am one of those people who paid extra, for a "Teacup" Yorkie. A LOT EXTRA. Yeah, yeah, I know. I should have done my homework. But, she was just so cute! Anyway, here's my question: How big do you think she'll be, when she's full grown? She was 2lbs at 3 months. And, is now 3lbs at 4 months. I was told she'd top-out at 3lbs. So, that's already turned out to be incorrect. I'll adore her at any size. But, I am purchasing things for her and don't want to be too far off on my size guesses. So... what does everyone think? Are there charts on this? Supposedly, her mom was 4lbs and her dad was 3lbs. That's all I know. Can anyone offer an educated guess on the weight my little sweetie will reach at adulthood? And, at what age do they reach their full weight and size? Thanks ahead of time, for your help. |
hehe u might have gotten scammed. Rwex was 3 lbs at 2months and now he is 10lbs . sorry if u were hoping for a teeny yorkie the slow down growing at around 6months but they grow till 8months-1yr |
I've always been told yorkies grow until around 6 months and then may get taller/longer until a year. I've found that Bailey reached the size he is now about a month ago and he hasn't grown any more since. Of course all yorkies are different, some may have growth spurts, some may stop early. There's really no way you can tell. |
Probably about 4lbs...they usually say to double the weight at 12 weeks..although Maximus was 2.1 lbs at 11-12 weeks and he is now 5lbs at almost 6 months....but I would probably say about 4-4.5 lbs |
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=weight+chart here is a link to a thread that has some info that might help you. Welcome to YT. Hope you enjoy your stay here. There are alot of people here that clean out thier doggies wardrobe and offer it here at descent prices so if your little one does out grow stuff you can always post what you have here and others might be interested in buying it from you. Just an idea. :) :) |
Hi and welcome to YT. I am by no means an expert on size, but, you will probably end up with the standard yorkie weight - maybe not the full 7 lbs, but closer to 5-6 lbs. Keep in mind that they are said to stop growing at 7 months. With this said, 5 lbs is still pretty small. My guy is 5 1/2 months and not even 3 lbs yet and it's almost too small! You will love the little scruffer whatever weight he end up at. |
I would say she is gonna be about 4 to 4 1/2lbs. |
:wavey: welcome to you and your new little baby, although she may not fit in a teacup  congratulatons!! no matter what you paid for her she's worth every penny!! and will bring you much happiness! please post pix's as soon as you can!! and again welcome to YT! :D :yorkiesar :yorkietal |
According to the size chart she should be between 3- 4 lbs |
Welcome to you and your little bundle of joy! It souds like you were mislead about her size. But I'm sure you'll love her whether she's 2 lbs or 100 lbs. It sounds like she will be about 5-7 lbs full grown (but I could be wrong because I'm not a breeder). I got my Katie when she was 5 months old and she weighed 14 ounces. Now she is full grown and weighs 2.6 lbs. |
my toby was 3 lbs at 12 weeks (3 months)........ and 4 lbs at 16 weeks (4 months)........... and now he is anywhere from 12-15lbs....... (and no he is not fat......lol.......... he is actually SKINNY..... i never thought he was oing to get that big, but i wanted a bigger yorkie anyways) |
My Katia isn't 3 pounds yet and she will be 4 months next week. I think you may have paid extra for nothing. You have a regular sized yorkie, but that actually works out better for you. So although you may have paid extra at least you will have a healthy dog. |
I agree that someone mislead you on the weight - your puppy probably WILL be under or around 5 lbs...which is a VERY good weight ...If I were you - I wouldn't buy too much till she stops growing UNLESS you are OK with her growing out of something in a month or 2 - Cheri grew till about 10 months ...she's just 5 lbs...but they fill out up to 2 years ... I'm sure your baby is just adorable - I'd love to see her - it's a shame people are banking on that word Teacup to make extra money. |
Welcome to YT! And congratulations with your little darling :) It doesn't have to be an intentional scam! My no. 2 yorkie had a 6pound mother and a 1,5pound father. We expected her to be 4,8pounds, but she is now 6 months and weighs 2,8pounds and I am afraid she won't grow anymore. The breeder tells us that her sister is now close to 4pounds. You just can't tell! I weighed her at 13 weeks and she was 2,4pounds, so I figured she would grow to be 4,8...but nooooo, no....*sigh* We love her anyway of course! And I am sick with worry that she will die getting her teeth pulled or something...she is so fragile. So you should feel blessed that yours is not a "teacup" after all :) |
she should level out her weight at about 6 months...if there's nothing hiding in her pedigree thats larger she might top out at 4-5lbs congrats on the little one would love to see pics |
Pita was around the same size at the same times, she's now 4lbs at 9 months and I think she's done growing. I know some of them keep growing. Pita is just the right size for me, she's not too fragile and not too big to put in a purse! |
Welcome to YT!! I don't really have much to offer on the weight issue, but I just wanted to say Hi and welcome! There is so much beneficial information on here, these people are just so darn smart... :) ! Anyways, can't wait to see pics of your baby! |
Congratulations ! My Niko was 2 and a quarter pounds at 12 weeks. He is currently 34 and a half weeks and he fluctuates between 5 and 5.2 pounds. When I first received him I wanted a tiny less than 4 pounds, but I wouldn't trade him for nothing in the world. He's the son I always wanted. And he's still very small. Good Luck! |
My Mia was 2.5 lbs @ 13 wks. Now at just over 1 year she is hovering just under 6 lbs. Based on her weight she is heavy, but she is NOT fat at all. I've heard take the chart and then +/- 1 lb. Somewhere on here is a list of her weekly weights for a LONG time. (I was obsessed with weighing her weekly) Someone obsessed with a Yorkie????? Certainly NOT!! :D |
Tinkerbell was 3 lbs at 4 months too and she is 5 lbs 1 ounce at 7 months old, I think she is done for the most part, she hasn't grown anything in more than a month. And to me, she is very small at that size, I can not imagine having her any smaller, in fact I'd love if she'd grow another pound. |
Desi was 1 lb 9 oz at 12 weeks. Today she is 3 1/2 lbs at 8 months - and she's been that weight for a while. My breeder was exactly on, she told me Desi would not exceed 3 1/2 lbs. |
My small ones are pretty much staying small. They have a father in common but different mothers. Dad is 2 3/4#, Moms are both about 3#. Lacijo is 9 1/2 months old and weighs 3.6#, last time I weighed her she weighed 3.8#. Her weight plateaus and fluxuates a little as it goes up. Mr. Big is going to be 7 months in another 10 days and he has weighed 3.5# for about a month now. Following the chart from the time I got him, we thought he was going to be about 4 - 4 1/2#. Don't ever fall for the wording on the ads. They maybe honest people or not. They may know what they are talking about or they may just be playing on the size of the puppy at the time they are for sale. I have been reading a lot of ads on Puppyfind.com and I see a lot of puppies advertised as "teacups" at 2# at 8- 10 weeks. I'm not positive but I don't believe a puppy that size at that age is going to be under 4#, maybe not under 6#. I don't trust what I find in the ads. It's one of the reasons I want to talk face to face to the owners and see the parents. I don't even trust seeing the parents, I've been told you get more of an estimate by looking at the grandparents. I've recently read that puppies can be a throw back to the 10th generation. |
Im guessing she will be 5 lbs. I say guessing B/C noone knows for sure. Even if the parents are 3 and 4 lbs there may of been a bigger Yorkie in their back ground. and your puppie could take after them. Both of mine was 1lb at 8 weeks and they growed to about 7 months and then they did get a litte longer after that. At age one year they both started putting on more weight but seemed to be done growing. Just filling out more. Both of mine are between 3 lbs and 4 lbs right now. |
Stewie is double his 16 week weight if that offers any insight. He's 9 months now and hasn't grown in a while. |
Hi....I am also in So Cal and might be able to help. I sent you a private message. Most contracts do not guarantee a weight because, frankly, no one can know for sure until the dog reaches maturity. Hopefully your breeder was a good breeder and did the best he/she could to match the puppy you wanted to you. If the parents were the size she says they were then she was okay to give you the "estimate" she did, but that is all it was was an estimate unless she put it in writing as a guarantee. If that is the case you might be able to receive some compensation if the price you paid was partially based on adult size. I am one who wishes yorkie size was based on height and length rather than weight because some dogs are stockier and weigh more like my Ava, while some are thinner, taller and longer and weigh less like my Chai. If your budget doesn't allow for clothes now and when she is full grown, then just hold off for another 8-12 weeks on buying anything and you will now. Welcome to YT!! |
What is "substantially more" when we are talking about undersize puppies What do you mean? What general price are we talking.....small yorkie vs standard yorkie???? Your losing me..... :D |

Confused???? Posters have stated that people are selling "teacup" yorkies for quite a bit more than a breed standard yorkie......is there some rule of thumb regarding pricing????????????? and what is has to do with size, and not heritage????? Yes, I am a novice... |

"Teacup" breeders...the smaller they are, the more they charge. It has nothing to do with heritage but rather the size of the pup. |
I just wanted to applaud everyone that offered their friendly advice on this question! :clapsmile :clapsmile |
