Help, Help, Something is wrong with my yorkie! We were playing and all the sudden I notice that he is walking funny! His little tail is bent over to his left and he's walking like a curve to the left side. He keeps trying to bite/itch that side near his rear, but I can't find anything there that could be itching him. Is something wrong with him? |
I just saw this, how is he doing now. |
He's still doing it. He's not crying, but he doesn't normally walk like this. Usually his little tail is standing straight up and he walks mostly straight lol. But he's running fine, but when he slows down, his tail lays toward his left and he walks curved. |
Check him real good in the area that he is trying to get at, sounds like he might have an itch, bite.. maybe a flea or tick? Something on his rear |
Can you post a video? I just can't picture it. |
Video Video coming I"m not sure how to attach one here? |
|
Maybe his anal sacks need to be expressed or does he have some dingleberries? |
It sounds like he may have hurt his back when he was playing. I'd call your vet tomorrow and get an appointment to have him checked. |
He goes everyday to the vet, he stays there for doggy daycare. (That's why I picked that particular one, I'm a paranoid mommy!) I'll have him check it out when I drop him off tomorrow. |
Thanks for posting the video, that does look odd .Let us know what the vet says. Eileen |
It looks to me from the video that it is fleas! They will be fine and then it will itch so he will circle and bite and try to get it and then he's fine until the flea bites him again! You'll be able to put your mind at ease tomorrow, since the vet can check him out! |
Kayah used to do this after she took a poopie and had some stuck to her hair.. Evie does this sometimes if she gets a twig or leaf stuck in her hair.. did you check to make sure nothing's stuck in his fur or anywhere around his rump? |
I'd be more concerned about his back or hip. Its good you're going to the vet tomorrow. Since he doesn't seem to be in pain, it would seem okay to wait. Good luck. |
I'm with the others....could be a flea or stuck poop. By the by, could it be worms??? If so, he might need to be wormed. |
Since this happened suddenly (after you were playing) I am thinking that he may be hurt and since it is painful it is confusing him. Hoping all is fine. Please give an update as soon as you are able. He is just a cutie. ;) |
I agree with everyone, by the way he is adorable!! |
Thanks for the video. That is strange. My first guess would be anal glands or something else just really itchy back there but with the tail to the side I'd be worried about injury. |
Any word yet as to what it might be? |
First of all he is just the cutest little bundle of fur! Second, it looks like he is trying to reach his behind with his mouth, to scratch or pull at something. Tina does this a lot because she is a little too pudgy to reach her rump. I don't think it is too serious because he is still acting playful. That is awesome that your vet has doggy daycare! Let us know what you find out! |
awww hope we get an update soon!! he is just too sute!!! |
It appears to me that he may have ate something he shouldn't have and is now having trouble trying to poop. or something may have bit him.. |
Looks like he may be having potential erection problems... my boy does that when his lipstick is going to pop out! :( poor thing! |
I wanted to add... I had my boy fixed at almost 6 months because he was getting erections multiple times a day for months at that point. He went crazy like your baby is doing in that video and kept going after that area like that... then it would come out and he'd have to stop for 20 mins and lick himself. I felt bad for him, talked to the vet, she said fixing him should help... so I did that and it didnt help... he's almost 3 and still doing that on a daily basis... he whines too when hes going to do it, like hes hurt, but hes not.. probably just annoyed that its happening again! |
Please keep us informed. |
I think it looks like he has fleas too. Does he have any flea/tick treatment on him? I need to get some of that for Dudley. |
Matty does that right after she comes in from the yard and she has a twig or something stuck in her fur. Hope he's ok!! He's a doll btw. :) |
Update.......well he doesn't have fleas or ticks (He takes Advantage). He is walking normally today. I told the vet tech to watch him and what he was doing at daycare. They didn't notice anything funny and he appears to walk fine. She said if I see him doing it again to bring him in and they'd to a more thorough exam. She said he prob had an itch that he couldn't reach. Maybe I'm just a paranoid mom, but he's my baby and it was weird how he was acting. |
Are you sure it's not a flea bite or maybe even a spider bite? Did he yelp at all while you were playing? Maybe he got hurt. I would definitely take him to the vet if he continues and if you don't see any signs of a bite. I would also check his little butt to make sure he has nothing "hanging", if ya know what I mean? The first time it happened to Jake, he scared the heck out of me, and that's all it was. He had a little poo hanging, and I think when he moved, it pulled on the hair that it was attached to. I thought he was hurt by the way he was acting. But, he was fine. |
