How do you leave them and go away? So I'm going on vacation this weekend for about 7 days, and can't take Peeka. I live with someone and he's attached to both of us, but he's attached a bit more to me. He's going to be left with his other 'parent' though. Do you think he'll be ok? I've never left him for more than 12 hours, but I know he won't get used to it unless I start somewhere. He doesn't whine or anything when I leave the house, he just is insanely happy when I get back lol. I think I'm overreacting but I keep thinking the worst like he's going to think I abandoned him and like die of sadness, or he's going to have some kind of heart attack when he sees me when I come back. Honestly its the other parent making me feel guilty and making me think crazy things. I feel like he'll be ok. Who here has been away from them for a while? Oh fyi, that's not a current photo, he'll be 2 in October. |
I understand how you're feeling! I went to Mexico for 7 days in January, and I left Layla with my parents. I was so worried about leaving her, but I think it was harder on me than it was on her! I did have email access in the hotel and I emailed my dad and he told me that Layla was also enjoying her vacation! On my last night I missed her so much I almost cried, and I was so excited to get home and see her again. She was really excited when I got there, but I don't think she was too worried while I was gone! Will you be able to check back in with his other "parent" while you're gone? That would probably ease your mind a bit! |

ohhh my god im going to go through the same thing i go to mexico from June 10 through the 15th and this is the first time i ever leave him behind im at my wits end because i know i am going to miss him so much. He follows me everywhere i go i know he's going to miss i feel so bad but i didnt go away last year because i didnt want to leave him and i so need this vacation :( |

We left her for almost two weeks over Christmas and after one day, they were sending us photos of her laying in their laps like they had just adopted them as their new parents! We go to Mexico for 7 days in August.... I'm going to be soooooooooooo sad!!! She will stay with my BF's parents while were gone. Like a parent, i'll probably be checking in with them every couple days or so! |
I had to leave Teddi for almost 3 weeks when I went to Australia/Tahiti when she was only 6 months old and I was sure she wouldn't know me when I got back!!! She had a great time with my parents and she totally knew me when I got back. She was fine. I missed her more than she missed me!!! |

I know how you feel. I had never been away from mine for more than 2 weeks, and I had to leave him for 3 months to come to Texas. They wouldn't allow me to bring him. I cried soo much. I had to leave him with my parents. Your situation isn't so bad because it isn't for as long. Mine didn't eat the first day, my mom said. He just wandered around their house following her. But now he is doing ok. I call and talk to him on the answering machine. What I do is leave a blanket or shirt for him to have so it has my smell on it. |
He'll be fine. Don't deprive yourself of traveling. At least he gets to stay in a familiar place with someone who knows as opposed a kennel. |
I have a hard time leaving mine too but I have gotten better and at least he gets to stay at home with a familar body than go to a kennel or something. I usually leave mine at my mother and father in laws or my parents home and I swear they have more fun there than at my home. They get spoiled by the grandparents. :p :p |
I Am Having Separation Anxiety This topic came up just in time....the past two nights I have been very restless and unable to sleep..just thinking about leaving my little KiKi for 16 days to go to Italy, France and Slovania....and my trip is not til OCT!!! The longest I am away from her is 5 hours MAX! While we are away, she will still be at home with my two adult children....but she will be home alone alot and I am really worried about her... I know I am being silly....but she is just like one of my kids....except she is my "baby" forever! LOL |
I might have to find out how this goes for me too. I may be going away for 2 - 2 1/2 weeks with my sister overseas in the fall. I don't know how I'll be when and if the time comes. I don't even like leaving him to go shopping for the day! Good Luck. |
