I'm New and have a question I just signed up today! My wife and I have a 2yr old female Yorkie (Contessa) we call her Tessa. On Monday we will be breeding her. Here is my question... We would like to keep one of her puppies. In your opinion, would it be better to keep a son or a daughter?:) |
Welcome to YT! You may want to post this in the breeder section. |
Welcome to YT.... Regarding the question of which sex to keep would be totally up to you....Are you interested in a boy or girl? Depends on what you are looking for in a pup.... Hope you enjoy the forums... Joyce |
Thanks Joyce I've heard that 2 of the same sex would fight a lot and that 1 of each sex would fight. I'm confused. Your pictures are beautiful. |
I have a boy & a girl and one of my best friends has 2 boys, 2 girls & a male red heeler - she dog sits my 2 when I am out of town & everyone gets along just fine. |
I don't know which one is better, but I'd take a boy being that you already have a girl. Those little guys are real lovers. |
A boy! haha (Im biased!) I have 2 boys and they get along great, but they are brothers. I bet a mom and daughter or son would get along fine. |
Are you planning on breeding both of them? If so I would keep a girl and avoid inbreeding. Welcome to YorkieTalk! |
Hello and welcome to yt! I have 4 yorkies, 2 of each. I kept a male from my litter, I think males are more affectionate, least mine are. |
Welcome to YT PastorJoe I wouldn't make the decision until the litter is here. Since you are going to do all of the work, you should allow yourself the "pick of the litter." You might even want to have someone with experience help you pick which one to keep, after all you're making a decision you'll live with for 12-15 years. When two Yorkies, or other breeds for that matter, don't get along it has more to do with the temperament of the individuals than the sex. I'd recommend reading extensively ahead of time in preparation for the blessed event. It will be weeks of anticipation followed by moments of sheer terror and weeks of caring for the puppies. If she isn't actually bred at this time you might want to have her evaluated as a breeding candidate prior to breeding her. Wish you the best. |

:yorkietal WELCOME TO PASTORJOE AND FAMILY :yorkietal Not counting the puppies (there are nine two moms two litters) I have 5 adults and one adolescent -- not quite a year old. The two oldest females, Chattie and Chizzie fight - they hate each other, but they love all the other dogs and each other's pups. If you are going to spay/neuter the offspring, I would say, watch the pups as they grow and develop and let the pup choose you. :) |
It really is a judgement call as the puppies grow. I have a mom and the dad, and they had a boy and a girl and we kept both and they all get along great. Especially the mom and daughter.. they are inseperable. PS Welcome to YT! |
Zoe just had two boys and 1 girl and at first I secretly thought I would want to keep the girl but today I am so in love with one of the boys...but not keeping any of them. why you ask? Cuz hubby is a meany! |
Wellllll, personally, I wouldn't pick one at all, I'd let that special lil one pick YOU, you'll know in your heart when you've been chosen;) |
