We would like to keep one of her puppies. In your opinion, would it be better to keep a son or a daughter?:) |
Hi welcome to YT. I don't know if you've had much experience with breeding, but breeding yorkies is much more difficult than other dogs. Because they have been over bred in the past, many yorkies have genetic illnesses that do not show up in the parents, but show up in the puppies. This can be very difficult in terms of money and emotional stress. It's very important to get dogs tested for these things before you breed. Also, I learned that dogs could get a sexually transmitted disease that is very serious even if it's the first time for both. Due to their size, many yorkies require a caesarean, and of course this is a very expensive operation. Remember in choosing a mate the male must not be bigger and the female should not be less than 5 pounds. Many of us have thought about this, but after careful consideration have learned it's cheaper to buy another one from a quality breeder.
