thanks so much for all your opinions. My cat is microchipped but I adopted her from the shelter that way. I know I am going to get him microchipped it is just when that im not sure of....since it seems some of you have done it around his age I think it will be fine....I want to do it while he is young but didnt know if that was an issue. I will feel so bad if it hurts him. but I know I am better off with him having it for safety. I know most vets...when you bring a pet in for the first time run the scanner over them just to make sure it is yours....they did this Monday to Bandit....they tried to hide it but my hubby saw them. Which I am glad they did because that means they actually care. So I may get him microchipped this weekend...I guess we'll see. I really appreciate all the opinions. I know I can count on all of you for your honesty!!:D:D |
We usually microchip at 12 weeks as new puppies are going to their forever homes. |
I thought you weren't suppose to take them around other dogs until they had all their shots. |
I had Baxter's microchip put in when he was neutered at 7 mths. |
Me Too... My breeder said I should do it when she is under anesthesia for her spaying surgery. It lessens the rick of doing it twice. My concern was I wanted it done right away...wait if she is stolen? But fro her safety I know I have to wait. I don't want her be to "under" anymore then she needs to be. It's not safe. |
Hi, I had mine microchipped at 12 weeks, wide awake and I wish she didnt have to go through that. After that-poor baby gave me hard time going anywhere near her head--same for groomer. She was traumatized!! So was I cuz when I saw that needle-I RAN out till it was over!!! I couldnt bare to watch. Im a needlephobic though  |
Blossom just got microchipped last week and not a peep out of her. She's 9 months old and was fully awake and alert. It did not seem at all traumatic for her. She was very brave. |
Maravilhosa came to me at 8 weeks.. yup found out at 9 pm that she was on the plane from brazil.. and she was already microchipped.. that I was glad about but since she only weighed 1.5 pounds I could feel it.. as she grew I couldn't,, but I do so believe that they need to be microchipped. It is easy to lose a dog.. even the best of us who have all the gated yards.. microchip brought kandie home to us in her getting out two hours later..anne |
I got Carter microchipped when he was about 11 weeks. I couldn't watch because the vet warned me the needle was big, and I felt so bad because he was crying when he got it. But right after he was perfectly fine, and not traumatized at all. And I feel a lot better having it! |
